Believe it or not, I listen to Zoe Keating when I work out. Her music puts me in a focused mood. I even play her albumn in my classroom for my students while they are working.
Yes! I just re-watched that episode and was hoping that the short cello bit was part of a longer piece and not just incidental music created for the scene. Luckily it was, and someone was kind enough to list the composer and the name of the piece. It's really amazing how the Internet can help facilitate the discovery of amazing artists like Ms. Keating for those of us who might never otherwise be exposed to them.
I love how at 5:00 exactly she has that harmonic loop going and is just like "nope, time for the theme." and just turns it off. Zoe, if you're listening I've been a fan since you were in Rasputina. Keep it up we all love you!
This is amazing! She is so amazing! This is called Escape Artist and I definitely can imagine somebody making a daring escape while this is playing! I can imagine a whole movie just from listening to this! Zoe Keating is so inspiring!
Same here; I normally acquire music by 'other means', but the fact that she states that there are no middlemen when purchasing her albums direct from her site, and the price is extremely reasonable, convinced me to buy her music. More artists should sell their music this way. Absolutely beautiful sounds.
Found this 10 years ago when looking up sage Frances escape artist an FELL IN LOVE. One of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard in my life. Every time I listen to it I am just as mesmerised as the first time I heard it
Tonight Im seeing her for the 3rd time. She is a one of many reasons why Music is intertwined with my soul. Anyone with a chance, you MUST see her live.
To the new listeners, I first heard her on the Radiolab podcast, bought two albums, and now cannot wait for the new one. The sound is elegant, modern, classic, awesome (as in awe inspiring), etc. Take a listen, it's worth it.
no shout outs, just wanna say as a music lover and audiophile--this girl's arrangements and compositions are savage in my book. Disclaimer: savage meaning good
I saw this live at a concert around 1 year ago! It was amazing to hear, even near the back of the room. I highly recommend that you go see Zoë Keating live!
I found her, surprisingly, in a really, really low budget horror movie called The Devil's Chair. This was years and years AND YEARS ago. The movie was blah, but the music had always captured me. I would love to find more artist like her. She made me fall in love with the sound of a cello. I yearn for more!
That is amazing! Controlling a Cello like this is just a masterpiece - but to combine that skills with a pre-programmed Looper in this perfection IS JUST OUTSTANDING! Big respect!
In response to Romanh74, i am glad to hear that I am not the only one who listens to her music while I work out. It grounds me, soothes me and blocks out all distractions. I remain clear minded and focused.
listened to a few of her songs on here when I was looking for some relaxing cello music to listen to while painting, and I have to say, this one is my favorite by far. All her songs are beautiful, but this one is just so epic, it reminds me of lord of the rings kind of.
Anyone can learn a concerto or sonata. It takes a lot of knowledge and dedication to be able to become a one person orchestra like Zoe is, not only musically but also from a technical stand point. A melody doesn't have to be challenging or complex to be beautiful. Take the Bach Cello suites. Originally considered only etudes, Rostropovich gave them life, made them known as they are today. He didnt even record them until he was 70. Simple is always better, otherwise Foures would be more popular!
Historically, Cello has often been referred to as an instrument made for women. Also, her technique looks pretty effin' great to me. Everything beyond that related to her art is your opinion. But I have to admit, your relating her to similar artists allowed me to explore even more great cellists. Thanks for that
I too heard her first on RadioLab perform this song, cool to see how she does it live. Just wish there was a good amount of reverb on it like the RadioLab podcast.
@fortvesper I'd say that it is not easy for everyone, not even for everyone who can play Haydn's Concerto in D Major. She has her own style and way of personal creativity. I saw her perform live in Los Angeles last night, and she was wonderful, and masterful on her instrument. To me the important thing in music is not the degree of apparent difficulty, but the degree to which it moves the listener and connects with the listener.
now this is music... honestly, people like her should get more publicity, and she's not afraid to use new technics and method for example see how many gadget's she's using...
She is opens up the damn universe in my head.. Gawd I adore her vibes.
Believe it or not, I listen to Zoe Keating when I work out. Her music puts me in a focused mood. I even play her albumn in my classroom for my students while they are working.
Thank You, Elementary. If it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't have found Zoe's music.

I saw and heard her perform in Boston last night and I was mezmerized.
She played compositions which hit deep in the depths of the soul
What a joy!

yeah, it is like avant garde drop
@@MishoIV Almost liked a professional-level escape artist or something, eh? ;p
I come back to this track over and over, it's incredible
Her music is above and beyond.. one of the artist that just blows my creativity away....
I'm gonna push myself to learn how to play this on my violin. Then I get a cello. Her music has inspired me. I love the earthly tones of string n bow.
Did you?
This is amazing! She is so amazing! This is called Escape Artist and I definitely can imagine somebody making a daring escape while this is playing! I can imagine a whole movie just from listening to this! Zoe Keating is so inspiring!
I have found this music to be the most amazing thing I have ever heard it touches me in a way no artist has ever done.
Same here; I normally acquire music by 'other means', but the fact that she states that there are no middlemen when purchasing her albums direct from her site, and the price is extremely reasonable, convinced me to buy her music. This is so beautiful and she's really clever to be able to compile of the sounds together like that, love it so much. Makes me want to learn Cello
Tonight Im seeing her for the 3rd time. She is a one of many reasons why Music is intertwined with my soul. Anyone with a chance, you MUST see her live.

My daughter is 9 and plays cello and her name is Zoë and she loves this composition
no shout outs, just wanna say as a music lover and audiophile--this girl's arrangements and compositions are savage in my book.

Inspiring and magical. What great talent and demonstration of musical imagination.
I saw this live at a concert around 1 year ago! It was amazing to hear, even near the back of the room.
I highly recommend that you go see Zoë Keating live!
I'm impressed by how much variety and structure she gets into these compositions, just building them up from loops in real time.
I met Zoe! And got her auto graph, saw her perform with Amanda Palmer, and she is brilliant, beautiful and pure incarnate passion!

Zoe, you are an inspiratio and a conversation topic for many artists around the globe, thank you for your music.... and all your work.
She came up randomly on Pandora! I'm so happy about it, because I haven't been moved by music in a really long time.
Saw Zoe in Chicago and she was fantastic!
Hello Internet brought me here. Fantastic.

In response to Romanh74, i am glad to hear that I am not the only one who listens to her music while I work out. It grounds me, soothes me and blocks out all distractions. I remain clear minded and focused.
This is so beautiful, the one bass line she puts in reminds me a lot of Sober by Tool
a demonstration of how versatile the Cello is... beautiful

That was Pablo Casals that gave them new life and made them known.
