Same experience here. I was an early believer in VR, playing a lot of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive through a friend in the game industry. I bought a Quest 1 and it mostly sits on the shelf. The immersion is cool but the graphics, tracking, and passthrough were terrible. I don’t have time to play low quality games for hours, and it’s a user experience and privacy nightmare. I believe I’m not alone, it has something like a 10% retention rate. Im glad Vision is basically a computer rather than a gaming console, with productivity, non-gaming entertainment, and communication as its core functions. The justification and benefit for using it is higher, the hurdles toward using it are lower.

I mean we might as well be arguing if a PlayStation or a MacBook Pro is better. Both technically computers, but they serve very different purposes for very different price points.
It ain’t for everybody. As far as the price, it’s simple supply and demand, a product is worth the amount a consumer is willing to pay for it. This iteration isn’t for mass consumption but they’ll sell as many units as they want. The test will be the reception of the product by the people who brought it, not the people who feel some kind of way about why they choose not to buy it.

I was kind of excited, but then I thought if the only thing you can use it is watching movies, that’s bit to expansive. I have lates Oled TV, and it’s unlikely to beat that, because I can share the experience with my family and friends by watching something together. If I would buy it for everyone in my family to enjoy, I will end up spending around $16,000.00 and that’s way to much money. So, is there any actual productivity you can do. And nobody seems to have answer for it. Does any one know?
I couldn't find any of my normal workflows that were supported by the AVP, including one task that is 100% Web-based. The dumbed-down Safari browser in iOS couldn't handle downloading a text file from a website, which made it impossible to complete even this simple task. Like you, I don't need/want it to watch movies or play games. That doesn't leave much. It needs to have macOS, not iOS. That would solve everything.
On the mapping your environment, there's nothing really on the Apple Vision Pro which actually requires it. On the Quest 3 you need this environment mapped to support augmented reality games but also to setup the guardian system. With the Apple Vison Pro you don't really need a guardian system as you're never ment to leave augmented reality. Would be interesting to see this in use though, you can clearly walk around in total immersion so I wonder what it does, possibly does do this on the fly. There is one game at least which uses the spacial environment that I know of, and that's Halfbrick's Super Fruit Ninja, however I don't know how that deals with mapping the environment, as I don't believe it's been released yet it might be something Apple is still working on.
Can you please upload the benefits of having 2, I want to get one for me and my son once they start adding multiplayer games, we have 2 quest 2 and love it but would like a Apple experience for watching content and multiplayer games/apps with my son

It's a joke. NOBODY wants to wear VR/AR glasses. The current version work perfect an offer a ton of 3D/VR 360 degree apps. Problem is not quality of the apps, speed or other features. People just don't want to wear these units for longer dan 15 minutes. Exactly the reason why 3D TV was a bummer.

Well Apple never “sells out”. They just push the delivery date. My colleague told me today his wife had a Sunday meeting while at the airport cause they’re having trouble sort out the production as demand is greater than projection. She is a senior manager there.

Not saying Apple should eat $800 of material + shipping, staffing, development costs, import charges, etc but they probably could have charged like $2500 and had a small amount of profit (if you don’t include the billions in dev cost)
@tnez2009 the bill of materials for it is $1700-1800. That’s parts alone. Then you have to consider assembly, the cost of all the engineers who designed it, the taxes charged by the US government when importing it from China, the shipping from China (probably all expensive air freight), the cost of the person in the store, marketing materials, 3rd party developer outreach, etc. All things considered they are certainly making way less profit on this as a percentage of total price than a run of the mill iPhone.

They anticipate lower sales therefore need higher margins to offset that. 2. May want to keep it exclusive to keep production volumes in check. My colleagues wife is in Apple operations and this weekend, they even had meetings to discuss the higher demand than what they’d forecasted. 3. Finally, nobody so far seems to talk about it but manufacturing that thing is hella expensive. The curved laminated glass, the micro oled displays wouldn’t be high yield processes compared to flat glass. And we all know how amazing the quality control is on Apple products. All in all $2700 - 3000 would’ve been fair game and what I’d think next generations would cost. The additional $500 is the Apple tax for all intents and purposes.

Meta Quest 3 doesn’t require you to set up a boundary manually. You have the option to but it maps your play area automatically.

I pre-ordered the 1 TB model plus lenses early. Feb.2 delivery. I’m going to be hated because I consider this a personal device. 4,000 = No Sharing.
I’m in college and have 5 room mates. They’re so excited to try it I don’t think I can deny at least a demo. I also get mine on launch day.
