The Hedgehog In Fog by Yuri Norstein | DePaul VAS

On February 1st, 2010, the DePaul Animation program in Chicago hosted an animation masterclass by legendary Russian animator Yuri Norstein. Mr. Norstein is the creator of many internationally beloved films, including Hedgehog in the Fog and Tale of Tales, widely regarded as one of the greatest animations of all time. In the masterclass he demonstrated his cutout animation process using an original puppet from Hedgehog in the Fog.
Yuri Norstein’s visit was co-sponsored by DePaul’s School of Cinematic Arts Visiting Artist Series, the Department of History, and the Department of Modern Languages. Translation was provided by Sonja Dekhtyar.

I've had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the genius that is Yuri Norsteyn on three occasions in recent times, the last being in the Moscow Book Fair in June 2023. We've signed and dedicated copies of our books to each other, and he will freely give his time to anyone interested in his unique works of art. Like me, he prefers to shun modern devices, prefering instead to stick to various nib thickness ink pens and different grades of pencils to jot down his ideas and notes 🤗
