I've suffered from rashes off and on for years and always had Rx creams for them. I started keto 2 plus years ago, lost 110 pounds, feel 10 years younger and haven't had any rashes for 2 years. I even break keto a few times a year for vacation. Keto rocks!!
🎣 I did it, I ate my first can of Sardines, Brought me back to childhood when my Grandpa would do early morning fishing and serve me a rainbow trout for breakfast.
Dr. Boz: As always, the cartoons you use to explain the pathogenesis are EXCELLENT, making the disease easy to visualize. Your candid willingness to share your personal experience helps to cement your message in our brains. Keep it up! - Jim
Male 43, I’ve had several rushes on my sternum for the last decade, I tried every cream imaginable, I cut down on carbs about a year ago and …. It’s gone
Oxylate dumping would have been my guess. Most people eat tons of oxylates (wheat, potatoes, spinach and almonds and peanuts to name several of the worst common ones). Keto lessens that amount and the built up oxylates in your body come out to play. Itchy skin and painful joints and blurry eyes. Once it’s out of your system your eyes will feel very clear and you may not need reading glasses anymore. Mostly Carnivore is when I noticed this improvement.
I found that using eyewash fluid that is actually a 1.5 % boric acid. I take cotton swabs full of the eyewash fluid and scrub anywhere it itches and almost instant relief. 😊
Could occur anywhere on the body that sun never shines on. I have found that drying off thoroughly in front of a fan (summer) or space heater (winter) kept in the bathroom helped until a similar problem I had went away (mostly) after getting down to zero carbs. I had suspected that it had something to do with lowering blood sugar. Big relief. (Worked for toenail fungus, too.)
Pretty good to know info there Dr Boz. Back in my early days of Keto(2018?) I ended up with a bunch of minor rashes that I couldn't figure out. I ended up changing the soap I used in the shower and the washing detergent I used for washing clothes. I ended up thinking it might have been oxalate dumping.
I'm so happy I made productive decisions about my finances that changed my life forever, hoping to retire next year.. Investment should always be on any creative man's heart for success in life

Wow. I'm a bit perplexed seeing him been mentioned here also Didn't know he has been good to so many people too this is wonderful, i'm in my fifth trade with him and it has been super
I don't want to put a figure to how much i've made doing that but let's just say it's more than enough to make trading worthwhile. And when i say worthwhile, i mean it.
I did that too, my rash was in the crevice of my legs where my underwear was. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to my underwear, I would scratch until I was raw and sore even bleeding at times. I noticed when I would cheat, eat too many carbs it would get worse and then when I went back on Keto it would start also. I realized that it had something to do with my diet. I realized when I stuck to keto the rash went away. This is another incentive for me to stick to keto.
Yeast overgrowth, Candida particularly, is a huge problem for people who eat a lot of sugar and carbs, I remember reading about this in one of Dr. Robert C. Atkins books back in the 90's.
As always, it was thoroughly explained by Dr. Boz!!! That was me, always been thinking and wondering if I am actually allergic to keto? Knowledge is power!! Now that explains the mystery why I suddenly get rashes whenever I eat slightly higher carbs foods or carb-laden foods. I've been on keto since 2020. And now I know the solution. Thanks Dr. Boz!!!
Love your channel, very informative. You have said that you fast Sunday afternoon to Tuesday. What does your fasting look like during the rest of the week? 16:8, 20:4?? What time of day do you eat before going into your fast? Thanks for all you do for us!
I’ve experienced this yeast explosion in the same place. I have to watch for it in skin folds elsewhere too. I figure if it’s on my skin, it’s in my gut. So I take Lauricidin pellets after meals to kill the yeast when it comes out of its biofilm colony to feed.
I think it comes from oxalate dumping. I also get the keto rash when I do water fasting. But recently I've noticed if I have green tea it fully prevents it (so far).
This sounds like a problem I've been struggling with since I started keto/carnivore (even in the same place)! I thought it was just a manifestation of my food sensitivities (I know I'm sensitive to egg, but got a mild itchy rash from diferent foods I'm introducing, a bite of fruit/yogurt) but now I'm not so sure!
In 11/2 yr carnivore I have had this a couple of times and scratched until I bled. I get it on my legs and my forearms and it comes out of no where. My diet never changes and yet maybe every 3-6 months I get this. I add in a couple of squares of 80% cocoa 2x/day and in a few days it's gone.
I'm allergic to gluten and follow gluten-free diet. I ate gluten by mistake and got the most horrible rash extending on the back of my neck from ear to ear, for 3 days. I had never had such a thing before and looked it up online, and there it was, explained, exactly the same rash, from ear to ear on back of neck, for three days! A few weeks later another intake of gluten by mistake, and the exact same rash happened, for three days.
I don’t suffer from rashes (anymore. I did differ for years from a latex allergy) but just knowing I can get a rash from indulging on special occasions makes me want to say No even more.
Doc, congrats on your diagnosis! I wish this information was more widely available. I had the typical keto rash and the last thing I expected was a connection to my diet. I had the rash on my under arms and my chest. I tried a few fungal creams to no use and my rash was driving me crazy. I went to my doctor (clueless about ketosis) and he said it was a fungal infection and I should apply the creams more often. I purchased a huge amount of fungal creams and sprays since there are many types. I used a cocktail of all of them - I was spending a lot on fungal creams and my pain did subside a bit. After living with the rash for several months I looked up the terms “keto and rash” and I finally learned about keto rash. I added some almonds and other nuts to my diet and got myself less deep into ketosis and my keto rash went away. Thank you so much for this video! The next time it happens I will follow your advice about lowering my blood sugar.
@@ahmetckg The keto rash is because of low blood sugar and the production of ketones - thus the name. If people stay in ketosis, then the rash does not go away if it is due to ketosis.
I had this also on Keto - it was super painful! Got off of Keto and the rash resolved itself, but I lost all of the wonderful benefits of ketosis: no more arthritis pain; solid sleep; increased energy.
Wow. I also ate more carbs through the holiday season. I tried a new deodorant at the same time, and suddenly broke out under my arms with a rash that sounds just like the one you described. Maybe it wasn't the new deodorant? It has cleared up as I got back on track with my eating. But I also stopped using that deodorant. Now I guess I 'll need to try that deodorant again. Hmmm. When I went keto/carnivore, my excema completely cleared up, so I was very confused as to why I started with a rash over a year into clean eating. Thanks as always for your videos. There are a few people in the keto and carnivore communities that I really trust to provide science based information, and you are one of them!
😀 Got it when I first started it ran up and down my arms may have been wrong but put as hot water as I could and it would stop itching lasted about two weeks
This rash is exactly what I have. Over Christmas holidays I ate way too much date slice, came out in very itchy spots under one boob, back on keto and it's clearing up. Thank you Dr Boz. I can relax now, knowing what it is.
Wow, I just found you and Subscribed. I started about half a year ago trying to eat healthier and about when I started I think I had some poison ivy on my legs that was about healed up. I started to not eat anything with vegetable oil, corn, pasta, or bread. and of course nothing with high fructose corn syrup. I didn't even know it but when my pants started getting looser on me I weighed myself in 3 months I lost 20 lb the first time I ever lost weight. But I really changed how I ate. When I stopped eating bread I found out it was the gluten in it every time I would take a shower for years now I would get a clump of hair in the drain but it's like a miracle if I don't eat bread or gluten in the bread I have no hair loss when I take a shower. It can turn off and on in a day if I eat some gluten take a shower I'll get some hair and the drain and the next day if I don't I don't get any hair in the drain. My hair on the back of my head is growing back now it seems like it's about halfway full I guess it will take about a year. From what I know you could say one word for weight loss "sugar" It boils down to that sugar is our energy and that's why we need to breathe oxygen cuz oxygen mixes with the sugar to make energy for us of course it's more complicated than that because are pancreas releases the insulin gets it in our cells and iron gets oxygen in our cells. Carbohydrates just convert into sugar. And when people overeat sugar it goes to fat and then you can use that fat as energy. And yes that fat is not sugar so you don't get gain weight unless you eat a ton of fat. I never ate any low-fat food in my life. You can see it doesn't work it's been out for a long time and America just gets fatter. That just seems to help with our hunger because when people go on a fat-free diet they're always hungry. And fat helps us absorb vitamins and minerals. I have seen another video about you talking about coffee I have never drunk coffee in my life and I don't get any headaches I'm not sure if that's why but what I learned is coffee gets blood to rush to your brain and when you stop drinking coffee for a while that blood will go out and cause a headache. As for my legs itching for almost 6 months now they seem like they're almost healed up but it's neat to know why it makes sense from this video your the 1st one that makes sense lights happening I looked it up before too and couldn't find an answer. I had to look to see if I could get one of those blood monitors that you put on your skin that is neat to know thank you for your videos I only watched a few of them and they seem good. I am almost 63 years old now and can still jump and run unlike a lot of other people my age who are a little younger. When I lost that weight I told a lot of people how I did it what I didn't eat and I never got hungry from it but wow people don't want to hear it especially real fat people I guess they give up.
Dr. Boz, are you talking about tinea versicolor? Do you also recommend a course of diflucan and/or anti-fungal shampoos or creams (along with very low sugar diet)? Thank you.
I mistook shingles for keto-rash 😮 well apparemtly it's shingles. Everybody tells me it hurt so much you gotta take painkillers, but I'm here, no painkiller 5days late with viral meds and mostly only itchy and burning. More annoying than anything else. 😅 I guess that's thanks to keto and the vitamin b1-12 plus essential vitamins and minerals I started taking for the rash😅?
It’s not cheating - I know people on keto who are getting out of ketosis every weekend. They are healthy adults in their late 30’s, now 40-42 and they do that “carb cycling” - they eat fruits and berries, maybe even pies. They do go to the gym religiously but nevertheless 5days a week they are in ketosis and out of it on weekends. I think it might be something about that pumpkin or another ingredient of that dessert. Just some form of allergy. I have eczema and it never get bad because of ketosis. It’s really bad when I eat sugar though
Isn't it a histamine intolerance? That's what i'm reading everywhere. Vit C helps, taking longer breaks between meals to allow body sufficient time to flush out the histamines.
Have you considered doing the blood tests to determine where your immune system markers are, and compare that to what they were, pre-CV-shot? Some of the issues you've been having lately may be (or may not - who knows) because of your reduced immune system response. Worth a look...
I ocasionally get a keto rash. It looks like a red worm under the skin and can show up in various places: under arms, top of legs, buttock. Often happens when have more ketones. Goes away in a few days. Not that itchy. I put some Benadryl spray in it.
Nothing I mean nothing helped with my keto rash. I was strict and ate clean keto. Never cheated. I had amazing health benefits but I couldn’t deal with the rash. Tried prescription meds, topicals, Biles salts, herbals I mean nothing. It was a hell. Carbs helped. I feel there’s more to this rash than whats’s explained. I suspect it’s electrolyte imbalances, hormonal issues especially cortisol. I had this rash after 2yrs of keto. I now eat 50-100 Gm carbs. Still no bread, pasta, potatoes or rice. Absolutely no processed junk or high palatable foods. I enjoy some seasonal fruit 1/2 cup and variety of vegetables properly cooked. Occasionally some lentils properly soaked, sprouted or cooked on my meat free days (2days) My fats are from butter, ghee, evoo, coconut oil for light sauteeing my vegetables. No night shades. So far I didn’t gain back any weight. At the most it fluctuates 3lbs. My blood sugar numbers didn’t change and no sweet cravings. My carbs are only from vegetables and small amount of fruit. This regimen took care of my leg cramps as well. ( BTW no amount of Celtic or Himalayan or Redmond salt, electrolytes supplements eased my leg cramps. Sorry but I am not convinced this is just a fungal problem. As long as I am not eating processed junk I didn’t feel it would hurt to eat a little more carbs coming from fruit and veggies.
Video request: IF Revisited, I know you have several videos on IF. But it would be great if you could put everything together and summarize things, like bullet list like kind of short video, what can be eaten during IF specifically 🙏
I got some pimples in an unmentionable place. An topical anti-fungal did not help by eliminating the excessive sunflower seed and pumpkin seeds I was eating (yes, I was munching between meals) that ended. yay!
Sorry, I have to do this expression 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I started Sardine diet this morning, they are delicious... I hope to reduce weight. I am 19KG overweight
Dr. Boz-I so appreciate your channel and the wisdom you share, but the solution for keto rash you recommend in this video is definitely not the answer-and I so wish I could find an answer! I've been keto/IF for 6 years and struggling with task for 4 years. The higher my ketones (K4.9 G61) and lower my glucose, the worse my rash becomes.(My response to keto rash has never been to consume grains, sugar, or starchy vegetables-I just do my best to deal with it) I value the benefits of the sardine fast and will try it again at some point, but it kicked my rash into high gear again. Surely there must be an answer out there. Please keep searching for an answer.
So my keto rash is in my belly button! Ick. Smells terrible, i assumed it was from my skin folds drooping down as I lose weight. Happened as i baked bread (yeah and ate some awesome sourdough!) for the Christmas gifting season. I have to wash, dry, and sometimes treat with anti fungal. Interesting.
Hi. I don't get it: Yeast starts to over reproduce both when the carbs supply goes up (yeast from superficial skin layers) or down (yeast from deep skin layers). Why the yeast from deep layers start to reproduce? As a reaction to find nutrients? 🤔 Thank you. Thanks
Fungi, not bacteria. ( 0:42 ) If I understood it correctly, ( 2:20 ) when their food disappears they multiply before going dormant, then come back in greater numbers if the food reappears. (Fungi are very resilient and persistent -- spores and stuff.)
I was following a ketogenic diet for 22 days. It was going well, and I lost 11 kilograms. Then suddenly, I experienced keto rash, even though my blood sugar levels were normal. Is there an explanation for this? What I experienced has nothing to do with what was explained in the video.
Same here! I wasn't cheating, was following Keto for 4 months and developed a rash under my breasts and in my groin area. I reintroduced carbs into my diet, which took me out of ketosis, and the rash resolved itself.
I got a rash when I started chasing ketones with MCT oil. The online advice is generally terrible, from tetracycline to eat more carbs. I'm cutting all carbs and cutting MCTs for awhile. It's 48 hours and the itching is going down.
I've never had this rash, and I’m glad because I suffer from chronic idiopathic urticaria. For the past five years i’ve practiced a fairly laxed keto and maintained my weight. I personally think keeping our bodies metabolically flexible is the most important thing we can do to minimize things like this. Just my two cents
@@YeshuaKingMessiah I’ve never got the rash😁 my condition is an auto immune disease, which, unfortunately keto doesn’t help☹️ I was just basically saying it may affect those who are much stricter keto than myself😉
I had keto rash the first 18 months on ketovore. Horrible at first, gradually lessening over the months. Now, two years in, it doesn't seem to be recurring anymore. Nothing I tried helped at all, I just rode it out. It was miserable, would not wish on my worst enemy :D
How about also applying a fungacidal cream as well. Fungi like dark , warmth, and moist. How about some powwder to dry up your skin. If talcum powder is too dangerous use tge silica gel from the little packets that come in everything.
Sorry for your boobs Dr Boz... but now I am thoroughly confused... I think I've experienced this phenomena.... so I get it, but I don't completely understand the rationale... It sounds like you're saying contradictory things... when the sugar went down ... it caused the fungus to "spread out..."? but if you go on keto your blood sugar goes down and that will kill off the same fungal organisms? Are you saying when faced with starvation, fungus goes crazy and duplicates itself and spreads out farther? So when you feed them and they replicate AND settle down... so it sounds like your saying both things again? Or are you describing a short term vs long term effect... the sugar goes down, they spread out... but keep at it and then they will eventually die?
You haven't explained why cutting off sugar would cause a fungus to grow and divide... and it that's the case how can the solution be to cut off sugar ? Binging on carbs can increase sugar and give you a boob rash, but going on keto, cuts off sugar and causes the fungus to grow and divide... ??? Some clarification please!! OK I've watched this a few times now... so the only part I don't think was very clear is why cutting off sugar would cause a fungus to "multiple and spread out" (paraphrasing...) instead of die like you said is should...
Life is a constant negotiation between species to determine who gets the extra "N". The preferred outcome is to be the diner, not the dinner, but we humans are not guaranteed to always win.
I had Keto rash on my back. It was terribly itchy and it was painful. I put butter paste on it, antibiotic cream, athletes foot cream, vases e, anything and everything! Then I saw video from Dr Mindy Pelz. She said to scrub it and don’t clog the skin with creams. I did it and it eventually went away. I don’t know which thing helped or hurt it, but it was miserable. I was fortunate that it was in a place nobody could see. 😉

Dr. Boz, are you talking about tinea versicolor? Do you also recommend a course of diflucan and/or anti-fungal shampoos or creams (along with very low sugar diet)? Thank you.
Yeah this happened to me when i went on vacation and was eating out. I get this now if i eat out and eat french fries.
I mistook shingles for keto-rash 😮 well apparemtly it's shingles. Everybody tells me it hurt so much you gotta take painkillers, but I'm here, no painkiller 5days late with viral meds and mostly only itchy and burning. More annoying than anything else. 😅
I guess that's thanks to keto and the vitamin b1-12 plus essential vitamins and minerals I started taking for the rash😅?
You could have titled the video - "Candid with Candida" 😅
I’m done- I’ve had keto rash 3 seperate times.
I eat a lower carb diet, but forget strict keto or csrnivore
I use hydrocortisone to reduce the itching, and it helps dry up the rash
It’s not cheating - I know people on keto who are getting out of ketosis every weekend. They are healthy adults in their late 30’s, now 40-42 and they do that “carb cycling” - they eat fruits and berries, maybe even pies.
They do go to the gym religiously but nevertheless 5days a week they are in ketosis and out of it on weekends.
I think it might be something about that pumpkin or another ingredient of that dessert. Just some form of allergy. I have eczema and it never get bad because of ketosis. It’s really bad when I eat sugar though
Hubby needs to share more. Would have loved the original thumbnail.
Occasionally some lentils properly soaked, sprouted or cooked on my meat free days (2days)
My fats are from butter, ghee, evoo, coconut oil for light sauteeing my vegetables.
Video request: IF Revisited,
I know you have several videos on IF. But it would be great if you could put everything together and summarize things, like bullet list like kind of short video, what can be eaten during IF specifically
🙏
If ur fast u DO NOT eat
There, that’s easy
@@YeshuaKingMessiah Stop trolling people
@@YeshuaKingMessiah It's much more than this. Do your homework
@@3SeasonsUSA look up fast in a dictionary, relating to food
Fast means no food. Some ppl have black coffee or tea besides the water.

I got some pimples in an unmentionable place. An topical anti-fungal did not help
by eliminating the excessive sunflower seed and pumpkin seeds I was eating (yes, I was munching between meals) that ended.
yay!
Sorry, I have to do this expression
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I started Sardine diet this morning, they are delicious... I hope to reduce weight. I am 19KG overweight
Thanx for your honesty
Dr. Boz-I so appreciate your channel and the wisdom you share, but the solution for keto rash you recommend in this video is definitely not the answer-and I so wish I could find an answer! I've been keto/IF for 6 years and struggling with task for 4 years. The higher my ketones (K4.9 G61) and lower my glucose, the worse my rash becomes.(My response to keto rash has never been to consume grains, sugar, or starchy vegetables-I just do my best to deal with it)
I value the benefits of the sardine fast and will try it again at some point, but it kicked my rash into high gear again. Surely there must be an answer out there. Please keep searching for an answer.
BTW-my rash is always on my lower and terrible on my scalp.
Ok. I'll bite. What was the "Thumbnail" BEFORE the change?
So my keto rash is in my belly button! Ick. Smells terrible, i assumed it was from my skin folds drooping down as I lose weight. Happened as i baked bread (yeah and ate some awesome sourdough!) for the Christmas gifting season. I have to wash, dry, and sometimes treat with anti fungal. Interesting.
Can dropping the blood sugar by cutting back on carbs and simple sugars help ppl who have eczema.
Do you think it could be a lack of beneficial biome components? Would more fermented foods, perhaps cycled with whole carbs, help?
I would look, if Vitamin A makes a difference. (so far for me it always helped with fungal outbrakes)
I usually scratch my itches.
What would be a good substitution if someone did not like sardines? Beef or chicken?
Wow. Good to know. Thx Doc.
Hi. I don't get it: Yeast starts to over reproduce both when the carbs supply goes up (yeast from superficial skin layers) or down (yeast from deep skin layers).
Why the yeast from deep layers start to reproduce? As a reaction to find nutrients? 🤔
Thank you.
Thanks
I don't understand the mechanism by which the bacteria in the skin multiply when you TAKE AWAY the glucose, Dr. BOZ, could you please explain, thanks.
For some reason starving triggers them to replicate just like over abundance does
Fungi, not bacteria. ( 0:42 )
If I understood it correctly, ( 2:20 ) when their food disappears they multiply before going dormant, then come back in greater numbers if the food reappears. (Fungi are very resilient and persistent -- spores and stuff.)
Note taken. Eating pumpkin soufflé around the holidays for persons doing keto can be a boobytrap. 😂😂😂
No keto rash on carnivore …am blown away.
I got a ringworm infection in the same area. I’m not sure what triggered that but iodine had made quick work of it.
Any correlation to data from a CGM? I guess it would have been in plain sight (as in it was not a thought to connect the two)?
Will this Kato diet help restore my optic nerve? I have lose of vision due to low pressure glaucoma
Super relatable. Hope your rash is gone for good
It's oxalate dumping.
Where did you get the rash? I am guessing probably somewhere in Florida.
Ox bile and choline stopped my keto rash.
It’s a few days long rash
It goes right away when u stick to keto
Just push thru n you’ll be fine
No need to go plan
@@YeshuaKingMessiah I’ve never got the rash😁 my condition is an auto immune disease, which, unfortunately keto doesn’t help☹️ I was just basically saying it may affect those who are much stricter keto than myself😉
Finally, a sound biological reason for that pesky rash! Thank you!
What about SEVERE itchy skin without a rash? All over the trunk and scalp.
Ok great first I had a drop on carnivore I was desperate so I've been eating carbs now I have more rash I can't stand it
I had keto rash the first 18 months on ketovore. Horrible at first, gradually lessening over the months. Now, two years in, it doesn't seem to be recurring anymore. Nothing I tried helped at all, I just rode it out. It was miserable, would not wish on my worst enemy :D
same!
@@julieriskoneely150 Ugh, sorry to hear. Ketovore is still very worth it :D
Thumbnail is hysterical! Didn’t your husband help you with relieving the itch?😉
Why would someone on keto have high blood sugar?
Me gusta Dr boz
You haven't explained why cutting off sugar would cause a fungus to grow and divide... and it that's the case how can the solution be to cut off sugar ? Binging on carbs can increase sugar and give you a boob rash, but going on keto, cuts off sugar and causes the fungus to grow and divide... ??? Some clarification please!!
OK I've watched this a few times now... so the only part I don't think was very clear is why cutting off sugar would cause a fungus to "multiple and spread out" (paraphrasing...) instead of die like you said is should...
Why not use the terms Dermis and Epidermis to describe the skin layers?
OMDujah
Can you show me where this was an issue .
Why do sardines raise a persons blood ketone level?
You must need a lot of patience with patients who don't have a lot of patience!
😂😂
Wait! Is this the reason my upper back has bumps and has been extremely itchy? Even when we eat healthy we have to fight issues. SMH
Life is a constant negotiation between species to determine who gets the extra "N". The preferred outcome is to be the diner, not the dinner, but we humans are not guaranteed to always win.
Keto Rash🤯
Try a plant-based diet.
No way I could eat sardines
I had Keto rash on my back. It was terribly itchy and it was painful. I put butter paste on it, antibiotic cream, athletes foot cream, vases e, anything and everything! Then I saw video from Dr Mindy Pelz. She said to scrub it and don’t clog the skin with creams. I did it and it eventually went away.
I don’t know which thing helped or hurt it, but it was miserable. I was fortunate that it was in a place nobody could see. 😉
Oxalate dumping.
Not. ( 0:42 )
"important keto information, but more importantly: look at me"
Three applications of strong red iodine solution and the red "circle" disappears in a few hours.
