Reminds me of the PPV pedal cars of the 70s. Had a neighbor who had one. They were more of a pedal powered golf cart than anything else, but it was fun to tool around the neighborhood in.
I really like this concept, this is the only thing I have seen so far that gives me any hope or optimism for the future, even though you would be limited in how far you can travel depending on how tired out you get, I still like the idea of pedal / bicycle cars. Reminds me of the ideas Clive Sinclair had in the 80's with his C5 and X-1 pedal car.
I recently spotted a Sinclair C5 down by the waterfront in my town and stopped to have a closer look. The owner asked if I'd like to have a go in it...too right I did! Great fun.
You're not supposed to use it for everything, just to use it instead of a car for your daily driving. Most cars out there can carry at least 4 people yet only carry 1 most of the time. Individual vehicles means a ton of energy consumption reduced.
Love this I’ve always had this in my mind since I was a little boy and I’m 61 years old now finally people are doing something that I never could do. Thank you.
Actually this is what fixes the pedestrian pathway problems. Move all geared vehicles to the bike lanes. Fact is if this takes off in any significant manner, then the traffic will require "bike lanes" added everywhere to accommodate.
@@seanregehr4921 I sure don't see any of this stuff gaining much popularity around my area. I don't care how efficient this crap is, going 25mph everywhere takes forever to get S done. Figure it's practically double the time anywhere you go and that's if you can maintain that speed. Even with assisted, you still have to be pedaling the whole time.
well I hope so, cause if we drive 5 seater cars alone for 90% of the time it's no matter if it is ev or rolling coal there's too low energy efficiency and co2 is created either way in power plant or in combustion engine, the planet doesn't care where it's coming from.
These projects go along the "i have a great idea: you work and i get all the money" line. If they continue to price these otherwise useful inventions higher than a second hand car, guess who will buy them? That's right, people who don't really need them will, people made of money.
A brand new bike can cost the same as a second hand car. Add composite material shells, electric motors/batteries, and LED light clusters, and you have an expensive bike. Design your own and undercut the market, there's no patented technology here.
Love these! I mean seriously, if people really wanted to save the planet, it's this. Having 1-5 ton electric cars isn't saving the planet, more like trying to destory it further.. But these! Are not wasteful, very practical, just needs to be actual products that people are enticed to get but Govt be Govt, they'll give you a carbon credit tax cut for buying a 5 ton wasteful electric truck instead of something like these & instead probably give you fines for lets just say not having it registered or riding it on the road/sidewalk depending where you live.
The government doesn't incentivise responsibility. Its only tax cuts to scratch a friends back and increase sales to that particular business partner. Its called crony lobbyists
I hope I get to see these become commonplace. I really wanted an Elio for a work car but sadly, the vehicle didn't make it to market. I know they're not the same but a small, very efficient vehicle would be so good to commute to work.
@@gogereaver349 , everything is expensive when it's a new thing. VCRs were costly when they were an emerging device. dishwashers were costly. The point is the price will come down.
Been watching this kind of concept vehicle for decades, and in the States, we're still exactly where we were 10-20 years ago in terms of price, availability, dealer support, and compatible roadways. Our mode of city planning creates too many obstacles to owning and using these things, which is why adoption is near zero. It's beyond disappointing.
You mean our near monopoly of a transport system that is the automobile? I really wish we could get rid of cars in our dense walkable cities. Have people park them on the outskirts and take transit/bike/walk inside the city neighborhoods. Lots of cities in the EU are doing this very thing.
That first one is impressive. My friends and I made a super mileage car just like in 20 years ago when we were in 10th grade. Competed at Brainard International Raceway with it.
Some great ideas, but I think most people would prefer a standard cycle handlebar style steering system over the, Im not sure what to call it, leaver steering system. Being Canadian, I do love the fact someone is designing for all weather (winter driving).
Yeah, but the same argument can be used against top of the line classic road bikes... you can easily spend $8-15K on a custom road bike designed for competition and the trade off is low weight for reliability and no cargo capacity. Here we have companies trading off weight and cost for something that is highly usable under more situations... not just a sunny day going to go workout or race vehicle. I've converted a bunch of bikes and trikes to electric assist and since I did it myself, I could get ridiculous with the power and range levels. At 52v with a 20Ah battery, I can get about 35 miles range at about 30 mph. I've got multiple batteries so if I really want to head out for a long fast ride, I can still get home with power to spare... in comfort, with cargo.
Considering a 50cc goes for around a grand, and the Radrunner is 14, I’d say anything more than 3grand is way too much. The price must be high for manufacturing reasons
Agree! Also if something breaks, how long will it take to get the parts and will I need to trailer it to a bike shop? They are just a cool thing to have honestly
the past month I have been thinking alot about building a cyclecart... but I wanna make it look like the old cigar shaped race cars... and I wanna base it on electric bikes...

Hi Sibusiso, if this is your passion, we need to find funding for you. I believe there is a market for quadricycles, but getting started isn't easy for a cash strapped South African. Where are you in SA?
If the Podbike had space for two people it would be my option as I would like an ebike full closed and for two people. The same goes for Veemo, would like one for two people. But unfortunately the full closed version is discontinued. I would need something closed and secure as here where I live it can be stolen easily without any security. Never had a car or be attracted to the idea of have one, and with the high maintainance prize of them I feel less attracted. When I knew the existence of velomobiles I started to dream of the idea of having one, as I don't need more than what they can offer, and are more practical in some way.
I like the Bio Hybrid; it looks really good and very practical. But the companies building these eco friendly peddle-power machines, need to give a nod to Clive Sinclair who did this exact same thing decades ago and was laughed at for his peddle powered vehicle the C5.
Sadly, anyone with an ounce of self respect probably wouldn't be seen dead in any of these, the same as the C5, which is a shame, because a few of them are. really good, imho.
@@simonuden8450 Hem,. Energy prices might soon change most peoples minds. A fancy design or flashy color will soon be the least of anyones concern. Soon even rich people will not be able to pay their energy bills anymore.

@@jimj2683 Haha, I can see your point, but I have the confidence to drive something like a Nissan Cube or a Smart Fortwo, and I have, but I possess the good taste not to be seen dead in a Nissan Juke or, indeed, something that's obviously trying to look like an expensive car and failing miserably.
A 100 percent human-powered vehicle is extremely limiting but with mechanical augmentation to the motive force these vehicles might have more practical applications.
So, Bio-Hybrid has gone bankrupt. To no surprise, I'm sorry to say. Most of these just look like more complicated e-bikes and take up more space than them too. Sure, it's cool to have a roof and a little more storage-space in the vehicle itself but these are comforts you can have on an e-bike for a lower price too. A normal leg-powered bicycle does the same for an even lower price, and it gives you more of a workout. While I'd love to see these replace cars entirely, as it stands now I feel it's more worthwhile to spend money on a better bicycle and some accessories. But I'm more than happy with my bike and a backpack, no car or battery needed here.
I use my regular bike a lot more often than I use my ebike with trailer. If I need to carry a heavy or bulky load then I ride my ebike. I prefer the joy of a simple old style bicycle ride.
Sure, but a lot of people don't feel comfortable on two wheels, especially older folks and/or people with back pain. Also, these bikes are lower to the ground so the skill level required to operate safely is significantly less.
@@Burt1038 I am seventy and have damaged disks in my back. My balance isn't what it used to be. My bicycle is excellent therapy. A step through frame is becoming a necessity but I still ride my mixte frame bikes frequently. I took a ride on a friend's trike and thought I would die from fright.

I remember back around 1965 some neighbors had old metal pedal powered cars reminiscent of the 20's. 2 seaters more for kids with roof as well. These had the 'pump pedals' instead of the classic circular crank.
Some of these are funny, others, extravagant, still others, practical. The great variety says people do not learn much from one another; perhaps, that is why such exotic, ultimately awkward vehicles do not have that much of a future. Didn't watch it did you? All of them had electric motors.
With toxic non bio degradable batteries.
But can you hang a full rack of brontosaurus ribs off the side, without flipping them over?
@@Mike-gt1cs, If Mr. Flintstone, in the original series couldn’t handle a full rack of, “Brontosaurus ribs” then neither could these, “Flintstone pedal pushers.” In my observation those vehicles wouldn’t be flipped, but would be completely crushed.

I built something like the PodBike 14 years ago. It has 3 wheels, so legal as an ebike in Canada.
Recently upgraded batteries to give a 260km, no pedaling range.
Do you have a video about it? I'd like to see it and I'm sure others would too :)
If you give it a solar panel canopy, you may never have to charge it!
This person built really good vehicle. Let say if there is enough financial support, do you think it is scalable? I think we need to put all this oil dangerous vehicles underground and let this small electric vehicle to run above.

Not that versatile given the company went bankrupt last year. 😂
@@randlepmcmurphy6117 okay "was" The most versatile then! But that's always the problem it takes to long and in the beginning it's to expensive, to get it widely on the road. Maybe when E. Musk was involved?? 🤑
I like the bio hybrid but alas, here in Houston, they would steal it. Same with the Vemo.
I would like to build something myself. But first, a travel mobility scooter for my sister.

We also have to work out the issue of highway travel as well, that's a big one.
Not to go far , that's the idea ..
Thank you.
The Mercedes replica looked cool, but I think my favorite would be the Bio Hybrid. But for a lonely country road, I'd use the Kinner.
second and last one are my faves. i would actually love to have them.
Yeah, this is what bikes path need, larger vehicles travelling 25mph among other cyclists and walkers.
Bikes are legal on the road chap, get used to slowing down to 25 mph now while you're ahead
Actually this is what fixes the pedestrian pathway problems. Move all geared vehicles to the bike lanes. Fact is if this takes off in any significant manner, then the traffic will require "bike lanes" added everywhere to accommodate.
@@rorychivers8769 It is a valid concern that all these stupid human powered vehicles end up on the roads causing all kinds of chaos.
@@seanregehr4921 I sure don't see any of this stuff gaining much popularity around my area. I don't care how efficient this crap is, going 25mph everywhere takes forever to get S done. This makes me see a future where we drive little electric gocarts to work.
well I hope so, cause if we drive 5 seater cars alone for 90% of the time it's no matter if it is ev or rolling coal there's too low energy efficiency and co2 is created either way in power plant or in combustion engine, the planet doesn't care where it's coming from.

@DaysOfFunder, that's even if there's any work left for human power.

This could be a fun electric bike design for people that want to excercise daily instead of going to the gym.
These projects go along the "i have a great idea: you work and i get all the money" line.
If they continue to price these otherwise useful inventions higher than a second hand car, guess who will buy them? That's right, people who don't really need them will, people made of money.
Agree.
A brand new bike can cost the same as a second hand car. Add composite material shells, electric motors/batteries, and LED light clusters, and you have an expensive bike. Design your own and undercut the market, there's no patented technology here.
Love it 🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️ peddle is best, no dirty battery or engines!!
Actually, a battery woild grwatly enhance these vehicles

My son has always thought of creating something similar to this.
Agree 100%. We all wish it would be a reality. Cost is the biggest restraint.
You mean our near monopoly of a transport system that is the automobile? I really wish we could get rid of cars in our dense walkable cities. Have people park them on the outskirts and take transit/bike/walk inside the city neighborhoods. Lots of cities in the EU are doing this very thing.

This can't be bicycle 😐 it should be Quadcycle 😅😂😂
You right 😅
That first one is impressive.
As amazing as the Kinner Bicycle Car looks, $15,000 is way over priced. You can buy so many other things for half or 1/4 of that price.
Agreed. Very few features for that price and it’s a bike you can only ride comfortably in fine weather

There is a bicycle car that’s also a boat. That one still takes the cake for me.😊
Great idea, People would wonder why's my Lamborghini so cheap 😅
I like the Bio Hybrid; it looks really good and very practical.
But the companies building these eco friendly peddle-power machines, need to give a nod to Clive Sinclair who did this exact same thing decades ago and was laughed at for his peddle powered vehicle the C5.

Looks Great! I'm very interested. Thanks for the opportunity to see.
