It can be done wither way - with with a nail gun or hammer and small finishing nails or it can be done using heavy duty double sided tape or glue. Keep in mind that both the glue and heavy duty tape could potentially damage your drywall if you ever decided to pull these vertical boards off the wall in the future. That's why I like to use nails instead of glue.

Geo metric design how many boards were use and what size
I used 1"x3" boards and used about 10 of the 8ft boards.
