No one could afford to build this today. If they could, definitely no one could afford to buy it! And operate it!
If they did manage to build it, no way would it be so beautiful. Back in the day they paid attention to the way castings looked aswell as worked.

I also thought on this problem. I was in a muzeum and I saw a wardrobe from like XVII century. It was a beautifully ornamented and sculpted masterpiece. Some artist carpenter must have spent years of his life to produce it. It was probably worth of a huge farm then. Today we could easily 3D scan it and engrave it with a CNC machine, but nobody does it anymore. We lost the need for beauty around us. Nobody is ready to pay more than just for functionality, maybe for basic aesthetics...

What is the function of the bank of relays switching on and off ?

They are relays from the paper tape encoder that have the morse code message encoded on them. They control the high voltage alternating current that is sent to the antenna to be radiated. The contacts on the relays have high velocity air jets to break the arcing to open the circuit when the relays are taken apart. The air is what is making all that noise near them.

I'm wondering what the relays are doing @5:40 load or speed regulation would be my guess. Never seen that before.

Sending morse code to be broadcast by the radio
This isn’t the sound type of radio station
