Keith, Chad and I (Clive Metcalfe) wrote this sixty years ago and as I approach my 80th birthday it's still wonderful to know so many people still love our song.
"A Summer Song" has been a favorite song of mine from first time i heard it in 1965 when I was 14 years old. Such wonderful memories/ This version is great !
Wonderful music. Music of a long ago time. Those mid 1960s tunes were always such a delight. Very romantic music. Things changed come 1967. I embraced the change too.
The beauty of this music seems to have passed. The opening notes bring goose bumps and you are automatically transported to a love story that you make your own. May our children's children regain these sweet moments of beautiful lyrics and melodies. Until then, we have Peter and Gordon!
In the sixties there was a cellar bar called Tina's, in a pub in Albermarle Street in London.. It's still there and called The Kings Head. The main musician was a Greek guy called Tony. But he enjoyed chatting with the customers more than performing. The back-up performers were young musicians. That's where Chad and Jeremy and later Peter and Gordon and later Keith and I (Clive Metcalfe) sang our hearts out in the evenings. Keith and I got ten bob (£0.50) a week plus all the food we could eat every night. I was a student at Chelsea School of Art, Keith was an architectural student (with Roger Waters and Nick Mason and Rick Wright) at Regents Street Polytechnic. One night Chad turned up to listen to us and liked some of our songs, especially the early version of A Summer Song. They had had a hit with Yesterday's Gone and this was a good second number. Chad changed the middle and orchestrated the whole thing so he became one of the writers. He was a brilliant musician. Because we were doing well with our songs we abandoned the group (band) we had started with Roger and Nick. They went on to become Pink Floyd. Keith and I were romantics and I think Pink Floyd, as they became, would never have happened under our influences. Because we left, Syd Barrett and Dave Gilmour joined after us and changed the band dramatically. If you want to know any more about me, visit my now, out of date, website under my name.
That was really beautiful. A great performance and so appropriately given by the two surviving members of the two great British Invasion duos. I would have LOVED to have been there.
Nobody wants to hear the ramblings of an old man but here I go. Mid 60s my friend Nick and I were playing a lot of acoustic songs because we started as folkies and we did not have electric guitars. The easiest way for us to still make 25 bucks a night was it to play Chad and Jeremy and Peter and Gordon. Other songs came from the top 40 songs like the Rolling Stones (as tears go by. Play with fire) and Beatles (in my life. Spoil the party) and others. If there was a song that lent itself to acoustic two part harmony we would try it. Luckily almost all of those songs were E,A,D,C chords with an occasional Bm. Maybe you heard us? “Nick & Denny” ring a 🔔? Playing in a gym or church hall near you? So I guessed. Thanks for reading ☮️✌️
Wish I had known this was going to take place. What a wonderful tribute to their partners....and who could ever think of a better duo that Peter and Jeremy after Gordon and Chad were gone. Good on you guys !!!
Sixty years ago we'd hear this on KRLA and KFWB. What a great song. Now I'm 77. That doesn't seem reasonable. But this was before Tonkin Gulf. Five years later I was over there myself. Let's hear it for TH-cam! If you're reading this, Nat - remember hearing this on the radio?
Folks these are 2 amazingly gifted honest to goodness down right incredible good to the last drop musicians. And they're singing a 50+ year old song, live no less. No autotune in sight. Definitely not needed. Why? 'Cuz they have talent.
Big fan of Peter and Gordon and Chad and Jeremy back in the 60s, and never realized that Jeremy was the actor Jeremy Clyde, many of whose performances I have enjoyed over the years.
Perfect combination of Peter & Gordon and Chad & Jeremy. Looks like Peter was well dialed in for the song and he sounded natural playing it. Great, way to remember the original duos!
I was 17 when this song was played on the radio. It's a pity they didn't have an extended version with added verse on the B-side. It's too short, thanks to the limits on 45 rpm records.
Yes, I know just what you mean. But with the passage of their partners, it is just so sweet to have the chance to hear Peter and Jeremy share the stage together.

I would like to thank you sincerely for your role in bringing such a beautiful piece of music into the world.

It's nice to see Peter Asher and Jeremy Clyde together singing the great songs from both their groups! Brings tears to my eyes!
Their voices never grew old...

Great song back then in high school that still gives me goose bumps.

Good to see Peter Asher again performing live. Thank you.

It makes me happy that this video brought you such sweet memories.
I would have enjoyed your concert back in the day. Love all the songs you mentioned.
I love this song so very much. God bless these gentleman.
Absolutely delightful! xoxo
I asked my daughter in law of she had heard of A Summer Song, I was stunned when she said her Mum used to sing it to her when she was little.
A beautiful song ! It first came out in the 60s !
Jeremy Clyde is one of my favourite actors - amazing just how talented he is.
Takes me back to those wonderful summers of my teen years! Lovely song, beautifully done.
Love this song beautiful
Wish I had known this was going to take place. What a wonderful tribute to their partners....and who could ever think of a better duo that Peter and Jeremy after Gordon and Chad were gone. Good on you guys !!!
Jeremy clyde later went into acting.

I am so happy I took this video. It has brought a little smile to so many people.
Beautiful performance. Great, great vocals from both!
Peter Asher was Jane Ashers brother. Paul McCartney wrote World Without Love for him
Can you imagine being so good at what you do, another medium takes on your work for a movie or a book or a tribute band? Talk about humbling.

Good choice Peter. You guys are the best. Can you come out with an album?
WOW, I love this song!
Bravo, lovely work guys.

So many memories come back of my dad, when i hear this song💕
Man still the same voice...I love
I want so much to hear the music, but more and more we hear Peter ramble on and on about Jane etc. Please just more of your beautiful music.
This song 🎵 reminds me of puppy love ❤ when I was young. It still does today.
Oh I love this song
One of the finest of all songs.
Good show, Guys! We were there. We loved it!
I am swooning
I loved it and still do now aged 78.
They sound great. I needed this. Thank you, nicepace.
Thanks Jack! I still play this song on my guitar.
You're welcome!
2 groupsvery similiar in time and sound. peter and gordon and chad and jeremy.
They are so awesome together! 💕💕💕
Sure do miss chad!!! All those great harmonies, and fantastic counterpoint guitar parts!! Good shew, nonetheless, Lads!
I hear ya. When one guitar plays off another maybe under each other. Works better acoustically.
Perfect combination of Peter & Gordon and Chad & Jeremy. Looks like Peter was well dialed in for the song and he sounded natural playing it. Great, way to remember the original duos!
Times that went bye too fast, a beautiful song of youth for all ages.
Wonderful!
I hate that I missed it. Would have loved to have seen it. Saw one of Joe Cocker's last concerts. Good memories.
Good music
Wow wow wowwww💖💖
If i only didnt know then a life time without her wouldmt seem so long. My falt she couldnt forgive. It shanged me forever.

Great ❤

Fabulous. I love it, but Peter needs to sing out more.
????? What. I heard he was alive still playing music Jeremy i hope your mistaken..😢🙏
I think my Chad & Jeremy album might not have even been stereo.
LOVE IT - Come stay with us,,,,Canada
The BBCs biggest mistake ever was in not casting Jeremy as Dr Who. He would have been perfect after Tom Baker.
Was Chad Stuart dead in 2019? I thought he died later.
I believe Chad died in 2020, but he had retired from performing at an earlier date.
Do you know what Chad died from and what/where his last performance was at?[
@@suzannelawson9215 I don't happen to have that information.
On 20 December 2020, Stuart died of pneumonia following a fall.
IS CHAD STUART STILL WITH US?
No, he passed away in December, 2020. :-(
Acoustics are never as good live as when in the studio. But at any rate, it's a beautiful song.
Wish it was Gordon with Peter. RIP Gordon. Good job though.
Yes, I know just what you mean. But with the passage of their partners, it is just so sweet to have the chance to hear Peter and Jeremy share the stage together.
I swear i thought it was Michael Parkinson
