Ah, the Anglo-centric sphere, you gotta love them. I love how people who joyfully mispronounce Glashütte or Jaeger-LeCoultre get mad for an Italian word with actual meaning and easily translateable.
It,s an italian brand with an italian name. What's wrong with that? It's a city name. It's true you made mistake how to pronounce it, but it happens also with other swiss or german brands when you pronounce them wrong. One third of the world is not able to pronounce Lamborghini, but I think it's quite famous as well, uh?
This is a really beautiful and unique watch. I think integrated bracelets on divers are super cool. Way too thick though for the price. Should be 2mm thinner.
Boxes are overrated useless money waster, never use it, dust holders, space occupier why even bother and I am being modest :)
As forgettable as many other dime a dozen dive watches.

Just because it's not English doesn't mean the branding is bad. It's an Italian name and the world doesn't revolve around English speaking countries. You don't make the same fuss with German brands. Would you know how to pronounce glashütte if it wasn't an historical brand? And watch TH-camrs still kinda mispronounce it.

A very beautiful watch! Initially I struggled with the numbers 1, 2, =, J?… Ohhhh 4!😵💫🤪😂 Pricey? Yeah. Aesthetically really eye catching. I guess us who buy will know if it’s worth the bucks!🤑

I like this channel because Jody reviews watches that I could realistically obtain and he has a wrist close in size to mine. However, whenever one of these microbrands pops up over $800, I always think that if I had that kind of disposable cash, I'd get a CWC quartz Navy Diver. $1300 and I'd look at Longines, Ball, maybe that Willard prospex. So yeah, the name matters to me. I can't help but think for those that it dosn't are probably buying this brand as I would buy a Steeldive 1970. It's all relative I suppose, but those people are probably watching other channels. Keep it up Jody.
I like brands leaning into their regionality. I'm a bit over Anglophonizing everything, to be honest. The watches look great, but a bit rich for my wallet. I owe myself an Ascent this Christmas (unless you tell me you have something with a day/date comp coming, Jodi, in which case, I'll save up any and all amounts).
LGP G100 should replace ALL sellita SW200 movements everywhere. There is no reason to have less than 2 full days of power reserve in 2024.
The name means 'closed fist' and a close pronunciation would be "punyo kyuso". Hope this helps 😁
Fwiw, pugnochiuso is a place in Puglia but also literally translates to "closed fist". Not sure whether this is explicitly what OT were going for but it could be considered as a nod to the communist salute. Officine Techniche can be translated as 'technical dispensary', which is also a weird name, but suits the vibe of those edges. I'm reminded of the IWC Ingineur
Expensive and I don't find the dial alluring and not a fan of fumé. I have no doubt it is exceptionally well made and really why bother paying another 200-300 Euros for much the same movement. Nice bracelet though.
Really quite like this one, original looking dial and beautifully made and balanced overall. I guess my main issue is that while the Swiss made one represents excellent value for money, it is just that bit too far beyond my budget, sadly. Whereas the Miyota powered model feels rather overpriced and is not nearly such good value in comparison, which I find kind of off putting; it needs to be about $100 less. As such, because I can't stretch to the one I'd actually like, I don't feel especially inclined to pay over the odds for the inferior one I'm less keen on. Not a great marketing strategy; I'll have to give it a miss. Shame really.

I was on the brink of buying this but having seen your video I‘ll pass on it. It does not look half as good as in the press shots on the website.
We’ve really appreciated the video from Jody, accurate and honest.
We undertand that name can be not intuitive, but the watch is just named AQUAS, while Pugnochiuso text, available just on the website, is used to refer to the top grade version of the collection.

I like it and I find it a hilarious idea how a non-English name could be a potential reason not to buy the watch when there are renowned companies out there who don’t even care about naming their watches so the community gives them silly nicknames.
Mate you dodged a bullet. In my opinion This is not a good watch (for me). The zenith defy rip off dial the thickness and the crazy cost. I don't understand this watch at all.
If you can't pronounce the name, use the Net before recording your material and check it. ;)

It looks like too much of a mash up of too many different things. I wanted to say hot garbage, but that's too harsh. It's just boring and uninspired. Why should I give them my money? I'd rather buy an orient, Seiko, or used longines. That pricing is madness

I think your criticism of the branding is spot on. Naming a watch is like naming a dog: 1-3 sylables, 5 or so letters is optimal. Easier to remember and doesn't clutter the dial. The name "Rolex" wasn't chosen because of a historical or geographic connection, but because it pops and is memorable. This is Mad Men 101!
Aliexpress brand : Welly Merck diver 40mm, sapphire crystal, textured green dial, £42 uk. Worth a look , if you can live with the name
Beads of rice is my favorite bracelet style. Also, I really love the orange on that dial. Orange is quickly creeping up on my favorite dial color, olive green

I like it a lot. Esp the unique seconds hand which you didn't talk a lot about Jody-- the little flag that provides a unique sweep but stays above the numerals and indices is really cool. And the square over the pinion is really unique. I'm tempted even though it's a no date. If it were $100 USD less for either id probably pull the trigger right away. Maybe I'll wait for the used market in 2025...
I stopped watching at the 3 minute mark. I hate it when Jody calls it a micro brand! It is a more elegant way to say an unknown brand from an unreputable watch maker! The Chinese watches on AliExpress with Miyota movement, they call them homage watches and when it's not from China and has a swiss movement, it becomes like magic a micro-brand charging over 600usd!!! Go figure. I say what the hell?!!! For that price I can get myself a good well known brand like Seiko and get into the prospect model at this price point. I don't care if the dial or the design is unique. You don't know where this brand will be in 10 years. Bankrupt or skyrocketing. My bet is bankruptcy for the challenge it takes to be up there with the bad boys. Right Jody, you must know something about the subject with your Erebus watches that are certainly well made and nice design but heck it is still an Erebus, a no name brand! I just looked at my Seiko watch wrist and it's time to leave!
Jody, this reminds me of the movie “John Rabe.” Good movie, important topic, good cast, horrible name. (And it’s my name!) Nobody knows what it is or how to say it. Branding matters! Keep it simple, sell watches.

Addiesdive will never not be the worst name for me, since Addie is a nickname for Adolf Hitler here in Germany. I really, really don't want a freaking Hitler diver on my wrist.

Review is spot on. Bracelet is really good looking. Watches are pretty cool but will have a very stiff competition at 1500$.

I've just received my black enamel Ascent. What a gorgeous watch! I like the box, too! I'm just not sure why there are spots for two watches in it - with my new GADA I am not able to think of any reason to take any other watch with me 😅
That fumé has a very steep gradient. On the thumbnail it looks like 2 concentric circles of black and white, and it's not much better close up.
If I'm honest, my biggest issue with the branding is "Aquas" - they've given it the same name as the only mainstream integrated bracelet dive watch on the market.
Which one is that? A search for "aquas" threw up no relevant results.
I kinda like Héron better. I think it's better looking and better value - they offer hardened case and bracelet for under $600

Nice case and bracelet but the dial and hands are a complete mess, large batons, small ones some numerals and random stripes. Then they've forgotten the date, although to be fair there's nowhere to squeeze one in. At those prices Christopher Ward and pretty much all of the swatch group seems to have something to offer in competition.
I think it would look much better with all eight indices in a smaller size of those at 3, 6, 9 and 12.
i hate sand textured dials.would have preferred if those other indices were applied, fine if the numerals are painted on.. only ali is in my budget.

We move to 13.6 due to the very important DOME on the Sapphire.
It was a technical and stilyng decision to give a ‘70 approach to the timepiece.

Excellent case finishing and bracelet design. I just think the dial is odd looking and not really a looker. Plus the price is getting silly. Maybe if they aimed at selling all with the 9 series and a bracelet with a strap option the price could be lower. Or maybe that’s just what I’d prefer. Anywho. Cool watch anyway.

Nice looking watch, and well done for being a bit unique looking. But I really would much rather the bezel be matte. Am I weird? Why does almost every new dive watch have glossy bezels these days?? I do believe they can do ceramic in matte too, no?

Matte is not a problem, we have in our collection both solutions. In AQUAS we opted for SAPPHIRE bezel insert, and not ceramic.
The reason is to have high quality with no standard colors like purple, yellow acid, deep green.
