I’m English but my gran was Welsh and this song was played at her funeral. I really wish I learned Welsh so I could sing along with my cousins. It’s a beautiful song and I understand why she liked it. Love u gran
Calon lan, Pure heart. That’s all you need
I am English, but those who chose to love me when others didn't were Welsh!
For that and so many other reasons is why this country holds a special place in my heart.
thank you, what a lovely message, well we’ve adopted into the family, welcome ;-D
you are always welcome here mate always
Because u hated the Scottish and took our language away
I love Wales!!!!
@@folashadeidowu7120 how can you say that when if you look into welsh history how we were persicuted ridiculed and were told we couldnt learn welsh in schools our language survives,i personally think you just gave up for the most part and thats on you not england
Greetings from the Patagonia!
Proud to have welsh roots

Gaiman #1!!
You guys are as Welsh at it gets. You're not Welsh roots but pure Welsh. You will always have that.
I learned about this song at the Rugby World Cup in Japan. It is a very beautiful and inspirational song. And even though I am Japanese, the melody reminds me of my hometown.
Very interesting! Although the harmonies are very Welsh, I can see that the melody has certain elements in common with Japanese ones.
Aw that's lovely! I'm half japanese half Welsh.
We remember your singing in Welsh, it was wonderful. I heard you in the stadium backstairs during the final - it still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you.
It’s actually in the studio ghibli film ‘only yesterday’ which is sang in Japanese (Japanese film) so maybe that’s why!!
absolutely beautiful! (From Patagonia, my great-grandfather was Welsh)
Another Patagonian with great grandparents from Wales here! 👋🏻
Daniel Morris some of my ancestors moved to Patagonia, I was lucky enough to visit Bariloche. Spectacular part of the world.

Marvellous- our dear beloved Patagonian Welsh.
Everyday all over the world the English language is spoken more and more extensively. As the world becomes steadily globalized, the world's minor languages are slowly being swallowed by the major languages, hundreds have become extinct. Yet for thousands of years the Welsh, living right next door to England, have resisted the incursion of the English language. The Welsh language is alive and thriving, a testament to the resilience of cultural identity and pride. This performance is a reflection of that spirit -- a hymn sung so lovingly and straight from the heart. And the message is as important as it is beautiful: the wish for a pure heart in the midst of all the commercialism and greed that humanity has produced. A truly marvelous performance.
Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad tan ei droed, mae hen iaith y cymry mor fyw ag erioed!

Love from China. I can feel the deep peace it gives to me. Such a great song!
My Dad was born in the Rhondda Valley 100 years ago today (02/02/1915). Biologically I am half Welsh, but am so much more than that. Love Wales.
Fantastic!!!! ❤️❤️
The Welsh are born singers!I believe there's no people on earth so blessed with a talent for singing!
They also put their heart in it, and that's so moving to see ❤️
Don't know a word of Welsh, but this song still brings tears to my eyes.
This was sung at my dear mother in laws funeral, she originally came from Ceredigion in west Wales. Probably the most inspiring and life reaffirming hymn ever written.
So proud to be Welsh 🏴🏴🏴
I'm Welsh and I absolutely love hearing Welsh people sing in Welsh - brings me out in goosebumps every time!
Could listen to this all day. Amazing performance
As an irish man who loves music this particular tune makes the hairs stand on the back of my neck a stunning version of Calon Lan stunning nice one boys
That is about the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
We have many more equally as good
I sang this at my great aunt's funeral last month 🥲
I love those kids singing so proudly with their funny hats! And it is a real community of song. Warms the heart.
I was privileged to hear this sung for me by some Welsh women on a coach at bath Xmas market even though I didn't know what was being sung it brought years to my eyes
I went to University in Bangor in 1976, met my wife of 43 years and most of my friends are first language Welsh. Just found out that I am directly descended from Llewelyn the Great and Owain Glyndwr - now I know why I cry tears of joy and pride when I hear something like this. If there is ever a better rendition I would love to be there with you. Cymru am byth. God bless these musicians - sheer talent and epic passion. Controlled and wild at the same time. Rev Dev
Royalty man : )
Im a recent immigrant to Wales and now know two words - araf and heddlu. I'm soaking up the Welsh culture, especially music. This is the best yet. Spine tingling, goosey inducing
I started learning Welsh with Duolingo about 6 months ago. It's the most satisfying thing I've ever attempted to do. Don't be afraid to give it a try! Good luck!
I am an English born plastiic Welshman. Have spent a a lot of time in Wales, have a very Welsh surname and see Wales as my second home. I adore hearing Welsh singing, especially in the Welsh language. I love watching / listening to this and seeing the clear pride in the faces of both the adults and children singing. I feel your pride for you all. Such beautiful, wonderful people and an amazing country. I look forward to living there one day and if I do, I will learn the language.
Ok I'm a 43yr old lifelong musician, choir director and instrumentalist. I just heard this song for the first time when I performed with a local community chorus. How the hell have I missed out on this my entire life. What a gorgeous melody, and this is a wonderful performance.
this is just one of many many Welsh songs ;)
Myfannwy is amazing.
so glad you have found it and it has found you. The words and sentiment are as lovely as the melody.
Probably because you've been ' biased ' out of it bach.....
You have to hear Myfannwy and Nant y Mynydd and… well, just about anything Welsh!
I'm half English half Irish living in Scotland, and I can definitively say Wales's music puts all of ours to shame.
Chubbchubbzza 007 if you’re talking about choir singing then I agree,
But no way in hell does the choir music beat Scottish and Irish reels, jigs, strathspeys, airs and other Ceilidh music pieces, as much as I love the welsh, welsh music is to different to compare like that.
I love their choral tradition and think it's a great part of the Celtic music, but so too is irish and Scottish fiddle and folk songs
Cymru am byth mofos
You can thank the mining industry for a lot of our choirs, sadly the amount of male voice choirs that helped make this are slowly declining, but rugby has helped keep a lot of this songs thriving in my opinion
Can you tell me what they are saying?
I have never heard it sang better any where by anyone or any choir, that was outstanding, those sopranos coming in there was a masterpiece and a masterful arrangement , the hairs on my neck are standing to attention Da iawn indeed.
I've heard many brilliant peformances of this song, but never any better than this one. Bravo!
Wales beat England 30, 3 on TH-cam You can hear 3 part harmony. A bit better than this one. I’m not Welsh, a Scot’s opinion
I do sing a wee bit
My first love was a lovely girl from Maesteg called Marlene . Although we parted i will NEVER forget her or stop loving her.
Valley girls are the best, and you wont forget them in a hurry, it's such a shame with you and your friend,Godbless.
I have known this all my life.. this version is just pure Joy.
A wonderful, powerful recording, happy people, smiling gorgeous children giving their all.
Magic happens, and here it is.

I've watched many patriotic songs on TH-cam but this one must be at the very top.
I can't get enough of this! My husband and I attend Gymanfu Ganu every year and I simply love this beautiful song. Thanks for sharing this particular piece!
I'm doing a play called " A childs christmas in Wales, and we sing this song! My fav song from the show! ❤
I am so proud of my Welsh roots. I have a Welsh grandmother from Wrecsam. Wales Forever

Beautifully done. This hymn was sung during the first wedding scene of "How Green Was My Valley" which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1941. I wish everyone seeing this video would see this masterpiece of a a film.
I've read the book (and thoroughly enjoyed it) but never watched the film. I'll look out for it.
It beat Orson Welles masterpiece Citizen Kane at the Oscars that year.
@@philldavies7940 Absolutely correct. I've heard that the primary reason was "Kane appealed to your brain. Valley to your heart"
@@usualfulful Well said.
I just love Wales! The people, language, and culture, everything about it.
Diolch yn fawr iawn 😥😘
I shall never ever tire of hearing the Welsh people sing. Nothing compares to such wonderful voices whether singing in Welsh or English. I hope I shall hear this in heaven. Wonderful!
A beautiful recording of this much-loved song! I live in Montgomery in Powys, where, being close to the border with England, most people speak only English on a day to day basis, yet so many people know Calon Lan, which is sung at lots of local events, including Remembrance Day commemorations at the town's war memorial.
Montgomery a legacy of the Norman conquest of Cymru/Wales....my family still call it Trefaldwyn in memory of the French speaking settlers who founded it.....we also still call Leominster by its old original name....Llanllieni.....but locals would give us weird looks now!
Peace/Heddwch
Beautiful, just beautiful. God bless Wales and all her sons & daughters.

Leaves me speechless it is so beautiful.. only wales can sing like this. (Dave Forest of Dean)
The most beautiful orchestration and choral arrangement I have ever heard of my favourite song!
Yes a brilliant film but I cannot understand why they had IRISH music played in the middle when there is so much wonderful Welsh music.
Fantastic - what I really love is the enthusiasm in all the singers’ faces. They clear love doing this - and no wonder. The pride is well justified! Well done!
Such heavenly voices !!!!!!
I remember spending weekends in the north east of England with my Welsh grandparents singing songs and cooking food and learning about my culture as a child and hearing songs like this really do take me back
I am from Canada and have never been to Wales. This is fabulous music, and the singing is heartfelt. I am so grateful for the great Welsh singing tradition.
I live in Israel , born in Cardiff in 1940, during the war. and an O Level in Welsh. I loved Welsh as I was able to pronounce the Ch. and still
Nice one and my blessings to you. I'm Cardiff too. Hope you and yours are well during these difficult times.
Hiraeth fawr arna'fi. Arbennig o dd'a. Coming from the largely Welsh speaking area of Ystalyfera, I have a great longing for home (I have lived in London for over 21 years) when I hear this wonderful hymn, which was sung at the most poigiant times. I had a big lump in my throat just now....
and there I was in 1961 thinking that Ystradgynlais had tipped into English
Wales is the best! (Welsh and proud)
AMEN!!
+Ella Styles My roots are in Betws y coed and Snowdonia, where the music echoes and reechoes through the dales. And although I live on Canada's west coast, I can close my eyes and return to the hills and valleys of Wales and to the singing... always to the singing. Cymru am byth.
Bendigedig !!
That descant, though! Absolutely stunning.
2024....greetings from South Africa. Calon Lan remains one of my favorites. The Welsh Actor/Singer sings it beautifully. 🏴🫶🏴

Yes up the Scotland
Listen to the sopranos` last note Not many choirs have sopranos who can sing so high so loud and so perfectly in tune right to the end of the note!!
My hairs stood to attention . Brilliant
I sang Tenor in a Welsh Choir, and these Soprano's are absolutely, spell bindingly, superb. This is the very best version of Calon Lan that I have ever heard.
Cymru am byth 🏴🏴🏴I am really proud to be welsh lovely singing guys great
Holy crap, one of those women went to my school. Was not expecting to see her on here. Mind you, she was always winning things for singing, so it's no surprise.

Watching this in Maine this morning. I am exploring Welsh hymns and this speaks volumes about their grandeur. Great performance. The piccolo and other woodwinds at 1:45. Just WOW!
I'm singing this song with a choir, and this video greatly helped me with the pronunciation, and the choir sounds amazing
Being half Welsh and half English, and knowing what the English did to the Welsh, I am never free of internal conflict.
The Welsh have a weapon more powerful than any sword.
They sing at us.
We don't dwell on that but don't win in Rugby 😀
Regarding the comment made about lip-synching, I understand where you're getting that idea from but it's not correct. Here's how things like this work: they got all those singers and instrumentalists together and made the recording (audio and video). You can see the microphones. The audio is SEPARATE because it has to undergo some post-production work (compressing, balancing) to make the clean version you hear here. There's a lot of ambient noise at a true "live" concert and for this sort of thing you want to edit that out. Then they re-edit the video footage and match it up with the EQ recording. Which is why it occasionally seems off. So did all these wonderful musicians and singers get together and make this beautiful music? Yep. Are you watching the SIMULTANEOUS live audio and video recording? Nope. It would seem to be a enormous undertaking to assemble all those people just to lip-sync to a CD recording. lol
Well said, and you are spot on there, some people just have no idea about video & audio editing and quality, they think its just point and shoot, a tremendous amount of sweat went into making this 02:52 long video and track.. Thank you everyone involved for producing something so gobsmacking and amazing
Oh my god, goosebumps ❤❤❤❤
Blissful, absolutely heavenly - bringinga tear to an old Englishman's eye ...
Always been one of my favourite hymns. I've left instructions for it to be played when I snuff it.
Hope you are still with us.

Please think about releasing this on iTunes for charity or something. love, love, love it
Calon Lan is the best way to spread the welsh language it's been in our blood since it was first created it's part of our history, our culture and it's a good song to sing on St David's day. Well done to those who sang it and played it I was also singing along 🙂
Calon lan my favourite welsh song 🎶its good I was in a welsh school two
Beautiful. I love the passion with which everyone sings, and the faces of the children and their commitment. It's good to know there are still at least that many Welsh speakers. (I was Jones before I married, so Welsh roots)
Sovery lovely and moving
Thanks for sharing!
Just found this recently. Even as an Englishman I am moved by this and as for the bass trombone just after the timps, makes me regret giving up playing that great instrument.
So amazing I'm proud of being Welsh. keep getting tears down my eyes while listening.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you!
Brilliant, i love Calon Lan.
Majestic and heartfelt singing. Wonderful!
I’m so in love with this song.
A favourite hymn sang in Sunday school. Brings back fond memories.
I am certain that Welsh will survive, and that song is one of the factors in it's survival and it's adoption. Calon Lan is just one of many beautiful melodies in the Welsh canon.
I love music and have heard many songs and this is the most beautiful of all.
Although the English tried to end our language they didn't and I am so happy I speak Welsh, no matter what the Welsh can sing I can tell you that. My father used to say how most people would just celebrate but the Welsh they sang.
My language is so beautiful
Wonderful arrangement and excellent performance of all these singers and musicians. Amazing job!
