Watching AA play a game is like playing a game with a friend, akin to the alure of watching a sports game with a friend; which I am not a sports person whatsoever - but if I were to distill down the desirable aspect, it's more about the conversation while enjoying a common activity than either the activity or conversation itself.

That's why we have the genre "Rogue-lite". Rogue Legacy and others of that type are Rogue-lite, not -like. They let you carry some progression across to future runs. Rogue-likes have zero progression carry-over. Thus your first game will be much like your last in terms of power etc.
