I just got my Gunslinger 2 last week. I test fit all my coyote hunting gear and it all fits well. Not to sound like a cheerleader, but this is my new favorite pack. In my pack I fit my 20 inch rifle, ( either of my AR's have 20 inch barrels) two tripods ( one has a gun cradle) spotting scope my icotec GC500, predator call my GPS, 200 ounces of water, (two 100 pounds bladders) two field stripped MRE's first aid kit 4 magazines ( ten rounds each) my data book my cell phone my kestrel my range finder my binocularsI I lash my folding calling chair to the PALS attachments and off I go.
Good review. I have the older g4 bag and I was thinking about going smaller. Just learned about the intex frame system, looks like it'll make the bag much more sturdy.....
It might be worth noting that the G2 Gunslinger II does not 'come' with the Saddle Bags from the manufacturer. He may have got them as a package deal from one of the distributors, but there's no guarantee they'll come with your pack.
ChrisC30 Hi, when I purchased this pack, it came with two saddle bags and a rain cover. It was part of a package deal, but it also cost more money. That is still the case today. Hi, excellent review. I love these packs, however, I was skeptical about feeling that bulge you mentioned. How bad is is? It bad enough to make your back hurt? Could one layer the side near the back with some extra foam for extra cushioning?
+sixshooter4570 Hi, it’s not that bad, but you know there’s something there when the scabbard is occupied. To better describe it, the bulge is more outward. The rifle creates a gap or separation point between the main cargo compartment and frame, but the rifle is not resting directly on my back. It is not painful, but I just know there’s something there when the scabbard is used. I think they placed the scabbard close to the body to make it accessible and to better distribute the overall weight. It also protects the rifle more. Extra cushioning is unlikely to do anything. They sell an option scabbard that allows users to carry a rifle or shotgun on the side of the pack. Of course, one of the saddle bags would have to be removed. Respectfully
Hi, I have mountain hunted with it. If the pack is properly fitted to one’s torso and packed correctly, it rides well and stable. Of course, as with any pack, overall comfort can be impacted by many variables such as an overloaded pack, steep terrain, distance traveled, weather, and the physical conditioning and health of the user. In short, there’s no free lunch on a mountain hunt, especially if one needs to pack out an animal. All the best on your next adventure... Be safe and stay well. Respectfully
Can anyone tell how much does it weight actually, like simply take digital scale and weight it please. because i really like this pack, but weight on the website is 8.2 pounds, in this review it is 6lb. 12oz. in others there is different weight. So what is the weight of this pack in the end, the real one?
414bushman Hi, I think 8 lbs. 2 ounces is the most accurate figure, which is what’s shown on the Eberlestock website. Please see the links below. The place I purchased it from lists this pack at 6 lbs. 12 ounces. The next time I talk to them, I will ask them where they obtained this figure from. Bottom line, the websites are all over the place and there’s no consistency. I will update my write up to reflect 8 lbs. 2 ounces. My Gunslinger weighs 10 lbs. 14 ounces with the two saddle bags, lightweight rain cover, butt cover and two accessory pouches. If you’re looking for an ultralight pack, this is not it. This pack is heavy for its size, but built like a tank. I hope this helps. In the end i think ill go with Kelty Falcon 66 its bigger in volume and is sub 6 lb. and is built like a tank as well, but unfortunately it doesn't have fun sleeve. so i guess you have to compromise on something.... anyways thank you once again for help and for the great detailed, in depth reviews!
Great Video !! I'm seriously considering replacing my drag bag with one of these. In the UK i have to have my firearm full covered when transporting, does the top butt cover clip into place using the plastic clips where the scabbard is situated or does it just simply cover over the rifle butt loosely ? Thanks
Steven S Hi, good question. The smaller G1RC will cover the saddle bags if you are carrying a medium to moderate size load. Without the saddle bags, the small rain cover is the perfect fit. If the pack is completely filled to the gills (bulging), it will be a tight fit with the elastic slightly pulling away from the side saddle bag, thus exposing a few inches on each side. If this is a concern, please bump up to the larger J1RC rain cover, which is wider. I have both, the small G1RC and large J1RC rain covers, but if I only had to choose one it would be the larger rain cover because I carry big bulky loads. Last point, the material on the pack is water resistant and will stand light to moderate rain on its own. Respectfully
So I'm curious, if I were to break down my AR into upper and lower receiver would the lower fit completely in the butt end of the scabbard and the upper in the pack scabbard? Would they both fit in there to conceal it a little better? How much would the upper receiver stick out if you didn't pull the bottom part of the scabbard out? 16" barrel on the AR btw. Thanks!
Hi, without the bottom of the scabbard pulled out, the internal pocket measures 17 inches deep by 10 inches wide. If I pullout the bottom of the scabbard, the internal pocket measures 30 inches deep by 10 inches wide, but it is more narrow towards the muzzle end and tapers down to about 5 inches wide. The butt cover adds another 14-15 inches of coverage on top if needed. Respectfully
Hi, if the pack is properly packed and cinched down with the compression straps it will not lean backwards, however, the rifle will create a slight bulge within the scabbard as it expands this sleeved area.

Cesar Gomez Hi, I have both steels. 3G is harder and holds an edge longer, but takes more time to sharpen. VG10 does not hold an edge as long, but is easier to sharpen. If you take your time, either steel will accept a hair popping edge on the leather strop. Both are high quality stainless steels. It’s a matter of personal preference. Respectfully
