There's a mod for the game called "Open RCT" that "fix" minor stuff/bugs in the game, while also modernizing a lot of aspects of the experience, pause included.
I could never get into RCT back in the day, but this did remind me of my love for Thrillville -- the modernized 3d RCT for the PSP. My nostalgia for the PSP is incredibly high.

Y'all might like Parkitect. It has a lot of similarities to RCT, but also has a multiplayer mode with a lot of scenarios possible as well as mods to add even more.

I remember playing RCT3 when I was a kid. It had swimming pools and a zoo as DLC, and boy was it fun in freeplay to mess around with all of them while making sweet sweet rides. When I played it I was somewhere in early school? 7-8ish years? Ages ago. And I still remember it dearly.
Seeing the two of you playing this game brought back lots of good memories! ❤ Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2 are both still incredible games! I still play them both occasionally. Honestly, the game is appealing to all levels of players. There is a ton of room to get better as a player and takes a lot of strategy/skill to do well. But even new/young players can make their own fun with this game. It is perfect! I introduced it to my wife back when we were still dating and she liked it too, even though she'd never heard of it.

Placed it some much in the early 2000's. I remember this huge theme park I had created that had 7 different huge themed areas (Wild West, future land, space and aliens, spooky, candy land, etc.) . Man, I'm going have to dig my RCT CD-ROM out of my old games storage and play it tonight. :3

ahh, rollercoaster tycoon.. the sister/brother to zoo tycoon, which i played the absolute piss out of. theres just some sort of charm about these old games. the grid-based terrain & objects, designing your own park.. theres something just primally satisfying about it

Fun fact: RCT 1 has a bug that makes visitors get lost if you place paths with more than one tile width. This caused massive complaints from players and blocked progress in some scenarios. This was the reason 1 we got RCT2, aside from the success of the first game, the developer was very triggered since the game was delivered mostly bug free.
Have you guys tried Dregde yet? Its a great mix of fun exploration, Semi ocean horror and interesting storytelling! Kind of like a mix between A farming simulator and subnautica

This reminds me of thrillville off the rails. Though you couldnt kill the guests in that one. If you didnt bring the ride back into the station the guests would just come down in parachutes.
Have you heard of Park Beyond? I never played Roller Coaster Tycoon but I saw someone play the Park Beyond demo, and that game seems like it's intended as a spiritual successor.
My dudes, you need to play OpenRCT2. It's an open source project that fixes all the problems of the original game, and introduces multiplayer. It's 10/10 game
If you ever feel the need to revisit the game again, I suggest Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 instead. They added tons of quality of life improvements and theming is a lot better. You build your own castle by placing walls, stacking theme elements, etc.
It turns out that I own RCT3 in my Epic library. It's already installed too. That's the problem with all the free games given away since Covid. Too many games and too little time. Apparently I now have 111 games 😮😮😮
I kinda want to see you guys play the Dark Cloud games. Critics dubbed the first one the "Zelda killer," and... Yeah, that didn't happen. 😅 They're fun, they're classics, and I'm definitely biased in wanting more people to play them, on the scant hope that we might get a third if the first two see a resurgence.
Hi, left a comment on the last video about it, but it was a bit after posting so I don't think it got seen. I imagine you've got a fair list of options for what to play so I don't want to bug you with it but I'm curious to see what you two think. Have you two considered Rain World for the "Making My Girlfriend Play" series? It's a 2D survival game where you play as a little guy called a Slugcat trying to survive in the ecosystem that formed in the ruins of an abandoned society. It has a lot of factors that I think makes it an excellent game in general (really good AI which makes an ecosystem that really feels alive, great atmosphere, etc) but it also has a really big focus on player knowledge and learning how the world works, with no permanent upgrades, as well as very little direction from the game on how to do anything, and I think it could be really cool to see how you end up handling that! In the DLC there's also a Co-Op mode that has potential for Date Night maybe? One word of warning though, a lot of the fun in a first playthrough is in discovering new things and creatures for yourself, so keep that in mind if you do any research on it to see whether you think it'd be a good fit.
