  • In this video we install a new replacement air filter in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, but have to cut it short, because of a problem with an oil leak from the breather. We cover the fix for that in another video. Look out for the oil drip on the driveway before we replace the old filter.
Hope you like the video on this Alfa Romeo Giulietta 940 2.0 JTDM 170, complete with some really useful tips that will help you do the job properly.

Thanks for all of these really helpful videos. I have a 2.0 JTDM too and find it really hard to get any useful information about servicing, repairs etc, so your videos are a Godsend. Thanks for taking the time and explaining so well. :-) Tim

Thanks Tony, Have just ordered a new BMC air filter and your series is invaluable in helping me with maintenance and upgrades. Not many Alfas running around in Australia therefore not many locals with experience.

why air filter has the foam around? if you replace with new filter and remove the foam would it be better for tha engine to breathe or not?? i was thinking mine to get rid of the foam cover ?

Hi. I believe it’s purpose is to stop the filter veins clogging up with debris, making it easier for things like leaves to fall to the bottom of the housing. As it’s so permeable I wouldn’t imagine removing the foam would make any difference. Hope that helps. All the best 👍

Hello Tony, ive been following/ watching your videos .Not sure if you have posted a video related to an issue i have with my Alfa Romeo 😢Guiletta . I have the 1.4 . Recently,i traveled on a dirt road. Did about 40 /50 km on it. When i came back onto a tar road my car started jerking , the engine warning light came . I drove home but then it disappeared. On driving around town the following days . It started again . This time both warning lights came on and started doing the same thing again.. it idles uneven and is almost like in a '"safety mode"". I cannot engage the ""DNA"".
Can you suggest what may be the issue here. Thanks. Dean. Cape Town,South Africa.

Sounds like it could be suffering from air intake. I’d check the filter isn’t clogged and check the MAF too. (I think the 1.4 has one). Check the electrical plugs on the air duct brakes and in to the inlet manifold. Something may have come loose. If it continues then get a diagnostic tool plugged in to read the codes and that should tell exactly what the problem is. All the best 👍

Hi. What was the problem? Why was oil in the airfilter? I have the same.

    • @vialettotony

Hi Nemeth. It comes from the PCV valve, which allows the crankcase to vent, but rather than the oily vapours going to the atmosphere, they are routed back through the air intake system. I explain it better in one of my other videos.. here's a link to one of them, hopefully it works; th-cam.com/video/YuFNXYjBD28/w-d-xo.html

Oil in the intake of a diesel is very common and its natural. It could be and oil separator but i wouldn't worry about it

@@pavw5508 thanks. Always good to hear other people’s understanding. After 60000 miles and only a few problems with airflow that stopped after I cleaned the MAF I’ll align with you and not worry too much 👍
