- saddest videos I've ever had to make, we have to say goodbye to one of our favorite TH-camrs Mark Nichols (Hobo Shoestring) he was a great man and loved trains he loves to ride on them and go from state to state on a grain car he took his subscribers with him to vlog about his fun trips

That will be up to the Convention organizers. Regarding a 'statue'... I think Shoestring himself would be the first to say something like a statue would be both pretentious and over the top.

While rail fanning here in Minneapolis today I noticed that the lead loco on several BNSF and CP trrains had an old boot or shoe string tied to the front hand railing! I hadn't noticed it till one of the mow guys pointed it out to me as one of the trains passed by after that, I spotted it on almost every train that went by😢❤
Reading this has me balling my eye's out. What a great tribute to a wonderful person. that say's a whole lot about how they felt about Shoestring. Mark was loved by so many more the4n he ever really knew. I believe he knows now though. Thank you for sharing this
I’ve teared up a few times throughout this ordeal, but hearing that Shoestring is being remembered by the train crews really made my tears flow. I never met Shoestring, but I watched his videos like all of us, and he responded to several of my comments through the years. His heart came through in his videos. Mark was a kind and gentle soul who served us while in the Army and gave so many pleasure and an escape from our troubles. I hope Mark had some idea as to how much he meant to his fans. God Bless you Mark “Hobo Shoestring” Nichols”. RIP.

I took notes from some of his videos just in case I wanted to hop on a train. I think Hobo Shoestring made us all want to ride the rails. I do have it on my bucket list.

You're very welcome. I really enjoyed coming home and watching his videos. It was very cool to learn about the railroad in different parts of the u. S and see his travels and how he camped. And how he lived while waiting on a train. I was always praying for him that his health would always get better. I know there's a reason why God took him from us because God gave us and God take it away, but we will see him again on that glorious day.

Nobody I know of or ever heard of went swimming in 40° weather. That water would be freezing cold. You wouldn't make it far at all

it was very gut-wrenching news to both of Aussie (Australia) & Kiwi (New Zealand) Train & Railway Fans (Fanatics) to find out of this very tragic news about the death of train ride loving friend &/or mate of Hobo Shoestring of Mark Nichols which was very unexpected & very sad of course.
He's (1 One) hell of a real Fair Dinkum American Legend of United States America in his own way a sort of a bloke when it comes to Railways just seems like that, he knows all about the Railway Industry Sector either, Upside Down, Inside Out & Back the Front, & Especially & Mainly about Travelling on Trains from Place to Place & also the Passion & the Love of Trains of course.

I never met the guy but definitely watched his videos. I hopefully the media will release exactly what happened. I don't know if health. Wise, something happened or somebody did something I'm not for sure.
Does anyone know if his raft was found on Boone Lake? I find it hard to believe that he was out 'swimming' in his condition and with missing fingers. I don't even know if he could swim. We know that he had a raft. If he 'fell in' accidentally...the raft should still be somewhere around there to confirm that. They seem to be avoiding talking about it in the media and among the JCPD. Even police seemed to be trying to take credit for the find when it was fishermen that found Shoestring's body.
I don't believe rafting or swimming is what the man had in mind. He was fighting demons. It is what it is. People should prepare for the times when they come for them because eventually they will and do. USA is under a spiritual attack like never before

@@lorettashepherd. It's rather odd that he'd just "walk out and drown" purposefully or accidentally. One could say that he might have slipped from the dock, but most of the docks don't have much or any water below them due to the lake being so low.
@@user-tb2jy9lu3d he didn't go out and purposely do anything. Shoestring was a close personal friend of mine and I know that he would never have taken his life. I honestly think that he went out to walk to try to clear his head and knowing that he was very fond of the lake, headed that way and slipped and fell and end it in the water.
I don't even like to make these suppositions as we all truly don't know what happened. They are doing the autopsy on Monday and his family has indicated that they will let us know the results so all we can do is wait patiently until then

We will know tomorrow. They are doing the autopsy and his family has promised that they will give us the information so until then we have to wait patiently

Shoestring is a spirit. That's the way it goes. We are all spirit in a human body's. He is riding the train up high.
And that's the sorry part of the medical field I suffered in Indiana for 9 years they should not have let him go from the hospital I hope the family looks into this that is not right they just don't care anymore medical industry is just like another banking account if you don't got the big money like the rich people you don't get to care that you should and that is very very disgusting You're going to be missed hobo I'm sorry the medical field had a fail you too
