A person who is disoriented can misjudge the distance of the docks behind his home and unintentionally fall in. I hope that is all it was because I love his informative and entertaining videos. He is right about the sounds the train makes while going down the tracks...it is so relaxing. Love and miss you Shoestring. You will forever be my favorite hobo.

I would be looking at why he was discharged from the ER when he was a danger to himself, if it was an accident or suicide. I’d be filing a grievance with the hospital (request WRITTEN response), report to CMS and TJC as well as the state-specific organization issuing the hospital’s license. As a former ER RN, this is the part of the story that upsets me. He asked them for help yet was turned out onto the street.

Sadly, events of the day seem all too straightforward. There was a video where Mark went swimming in the lake leaving the camera on the dock. We all heard sounds of struggling until he was able to drag himself up onto the dock. He was a bit flustered and said he almost couldn't make it up. In his confused state, probably he fell into the lake or just couldn't get out of the water in his weakened state. My heart goes out to his family and the fans. In the final analysis, he truly did live his life doing what he wanted. How many people get to live the life of a professional hobo while having such a positive effect on so many other lives. In that, he accomplished more than I (or most folks) ever will.
I hope what little I could give helps. I never met Shoestring, but I feel like I've known him my whole life. I guess what they say is true about birds of a feather. Ride In Peace Mark, you'll live on forever as Hobo Shoestring on the rails.

How about investigating why he was discharged from the emergency room in the wee hours while he was having a psychotic episode and wasn't in his right mind. These supposed trained medical experts hold the responsibility for sending him out into the night and for what then happened to him.

It is very hard for families to deal with the loss of a loved one. Mark touched a lot of lives through his adventures. Mark led a tough life but overcame a lot of things. Mark is no longer in pain and is smiling down on those people he touched. Stay strong

As a veteran, the family needs to be aware he may be entitled to some burial benefits. Check with the local Veterans Administration.
