    I just can’t stop playing my fluke! From the flat neck to the light weight it just feels good in the hand and is a dream to hold. Surprisingly it has a big sound for a plastic body-much louder than my Waterman concert plastic uke. I have it tuned with low G, which gives it extra bass sound and I highly recommend! I opted for the upgraded tuners to get a little more consistent tuning, and the only thing I wish I had opted for is a pickup but basically I am 100% happy with my purchase. A great all American company with excellent customer service! Ok... enough bragging on them-everyone should go try one yourself and see if you agree!

    Magic Fluke company in U.S. makes great instruments, and as you would expect, are the nicest people to deal with. You rarely see their instruments for resale on Craigslist, or EBay, because people just love them-won’t part with a good thing. One thing that would be helpful in any uke review would be to mention nut width. In this case, the nut is slightly wider than the standard 1 3/8”. It measures 1.41 inches, which is helpful when fretting, and barre chording, and those with, ummm, finger issues (arthritis, perhaps)? This is assuming the string width distances are proportional to the nut width.

    My fluke ukulele is the one I play most often - with the flat bottom I can keep it just standing on my desk so it's easy to just grab it and play. If I were going to make the purchase again I think I would pay the extra for a wood fret board - mine has the plastic.

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jana Gray hi Jana! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your fluke! This will help anyone considering buying one.
      I kind of like that the fingerboard is plastic because I can easily sanitize it with a wipe and not worry about damaging the wood.
      You’re right about that flat bottom. I’ve been playing this uku the most because I can put it on my work desk.

    Love it. My 8yo says the soundhole might be meant to look like the sun. I am surprised by how light and loud it is. I am so used to holding the neck up while playing so that is the big difference I noticed with the Fluke, its more balanced. And intonation is perfect. Mine is tuned to DGBE like a baritone.

    • @ACraftySock
      @ACraftySock 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @arc1105
      @arc1105 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ms.B. I see a concert on the horizon, when I get one I'll let you know which size is a fav. Love the soprano sized Flight for working on challenging fingers stretching chords. Have two tenors as they feel right in hand. Find the Baritone a tad big. Intrigued to hear the Fluke tenor can be strung as a Baritone, this just may be the way to go. What's your favorite size uke when you're playing around the house?

    I remember about 10 or 15 years ago Fluke ukes were big. Really popular. I almost bought one but went with a wood ukulele. I guess they are still popular but not as much.

    • @livinglakenorman
      @livinglakenorman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Popular” usually is a measure of marketing spend not the quality of the product. I think magic fluke started business about 15 to 20 years ago so that might be why you first heard of them then… but I love them. It just shows you that you do not have to have a traditional wooden instrument that requires special care to have a great sounding instrument. Most of my friends some musicians and some not, cannot tell the difference in blind sound test between my $3000 Koa ukulele and my $200 soprano flea

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic

      They do have a geared tuner option .. !!!!

    • @basterds4330
      @basterds4330 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm really unhappy with them. When the screw gets loose the string gets loose too. And I'm afraid to damage something when tightening it to strong. It's only one string. And I don't like the sound of the plastic fingerboard and strings. The price is way to high for what you get. Just a gimmick but an expensive one

    • @jpsalis
      @jpsalis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@basterds4330 That's just friction tuners in general, same thing happens with my violin, it takes time to get used to. When adjusting a string, it's best to loosen the peg first, then tighten it to the right tension while pushing the peg inwards. Obviously geared tuners are better, but they're much more expensive and they need professional installation.

    F-un L-ooking U-niquely
    K-ool E-ngineered beauty Ms.B. Thanks for adding the detailed description, interesting to read this and the Tenor can be tuned as a Baritone, how cool is that! Love the idea of getting creative with the customization, I can imagine having a wall of this model Fluke with different components and woods, one for ever friend to play. Smart idea, I like the inventiveness of this company. That headstock with the zero nut and body shape are a welcome change from the norm. A lovely old world charm this design, it's very appealing, kind of looks like a mini Oud. The sound, wow, that was a great description of it's sound, I hear what you are saying/playing. Questions: Does it feel much different on the arm with the flat bottom compared to a rounder uke? What's the appeal of this style of tuners? Does the ukulele feel balanced with the wood neck, or does the body size balance it all out? Your enthusiasm is contagious, I'm going to check out their website. Look forward to hearing this Fluke uke in a song. Thanks for this Sunday funday video Ms.B.

      It's a high-D baritone tuning. It's not like the same tuning as a guitar's 1-4 strings. The D is a just a full step below the high e. If you put a capo on the fifth fret it would have the same tuning traditionally used on a ukulele. It's d-G-B-e

    Always try to buy made in the USA.

    I like these because they are kind of an anti-Ovation built like an Ovation. Anti-Ovation because those guitars with the bowl-shaped plastic back are as slippery as an eel without a strap. And because the round stiff back is just there to reflect and reinforce the sound coming off the top they sound enormous in timbre.
    But that price. OMG, with a real spruce or koa top they are almost the same price as a Celebrity electric-acoustic guitar. Even without a real wood fingerboard. That's the price of made-in-America, I guess.

      "as slippery as an eel without a strap" 😂😂😂
      I just went to check the price of the Koa... $388 is the price of an acoustic electric celebrity guitar? I don't know anything about guitars 🤦🏻‍♀️
