Every Mother Defend their Children.
I've never seen a lioness fling herself on top of a male lion like that. Usually they try to remain low, pretending to be submissive without backing down. She's quite the warrior.
I saw another lioness on a documentary doing this.
The nursing lionesses instinctively do this a lot. I've watched videos like this .
I saw why she did I zoomed in. The male was killing a cub.
The nursing lionesses are more aggressive. They ware protective
nah nursing lions always do this, normal lionesses wont cuz it's a death sentence. Cubs are more important than her life, its the next generation

She ended up losing 2 cubs and raised 2 boys to adults. After that from pressure from Red and White Eye, she left the area never to be seen again. She managed to raise 2 princes to adulthood.
She was a magnificent lioness. If she raised two cubs to adulthood, then she achieved a very difficult goal; lion cub mortality rate is very high. Thank you for sharing that bit of info with us. Cheers!

It's on Safari Live. The male injured 1 but Tamu stayed w him till he passed. But 2 fid raise 2 fine young male lions all by herself.
I thought he had one in his mouth as she was chasing him. I really hate that part of lion life, but it is what it is 😭🤷♀️
Tamu is an incredible mother, the male had at least two to three times her strength,
amazing. Lionesses are classically very protective of their cubs but Tamu has taken this to a new level, as I also viewed in the other videos of her feeding her cubs, moving them from danger, very special lion.
Lionesses can easily kill males if they can get the neck fast enough

Good to know. Tamu is a very special lion. After this lion attacked her cubs, in the above video, after she spent hours looking for them and then moved them. One cub sadly died from the attack and Tamu spent time licking the dead cub, clearly grieving, but she had other cubs to attend to and had to move on. A very strong, wise and emotional lioness.

Still takes guts. Most Lioness will just watch as a male kills their cubs, cause they know he can easily kill them in turn too.
So instinct negates bravery? lol instinct to survive is pretty strong too, so yes, that took guts.

@@denizakman2560 Lionesses are the hunters of their pride but that doesn’t mean that male lions aren’t capable of hunting and killing. They can and often do kill lionesses in fights, especially dominance fights when a new male lion takes over a territory. Lionesses certainly can’t kill one with ‘ease’, they can win a fight with one but lions and lionesses are well matched in terms of strength.

OMG! I've been looking for this forever. Never underestime the power of a mother. Males maybe twice their size, but female lionesses are filled with agression. Push it too far, you'll wish you hadn't been born. As the wonderful Tamu represents right here. She should be declared a heroine after this ordeal. Many lioness are killed facing off against rogue males. But when you're a mother, the devil himself will learn to shiver in fear.

size does not matter when it comes to protecting your offspring that male lion is lucky he did'nt leave a piece of his ass behind.
He wants to kill the cub not lioness if wanted he could but get scars in progress.
I remember this from “Big Cat Diary”. The male badly injured the cub and it died later that day. Tamu (which means sweet) took the injured cub and a healthy one to a new den and then went back for her third cub, which she found. It’s a really hard life for a lioness without a pride. She mated with Notch from the Marsh Pride, but apparently, was not a member of the pride.
I loved presenter, Simon King’s, reaction to Tamu chasing off the male lion.

I don't get why everyone always assumes that size/weight always wins. It's really the fight, tenacity & aggression that's in the creature that earns respect more than size or weight. I mean take a look at Wolverines and African Honey Badgers, they're pretty small and yet almost no predator dares to mess with either of those for good reasons.

Guys may be bigger and stronger, but gals have more fury, and that wins out.
Actually, they dont have more fury. She was just driven to protect her cubs. Some males arent having it though, and would give out more than she dished.
brentlion This definitely was the biggest defense I've seen a female cat do for her cubs. Usually the pride is a mix of submissive and fighting. They want to deter the guy, but they want to live. This lioness flug herself at the lion. He was not expecting that!

I really admire and respect her mother mentality, she doesn’t hve anymore fear when comes to protecting her babies, such a great mama lioness, I can see already that with her such a very fearless and bravery, she will successfully raise her cubs to adulthood!👏👏👏

I watched this whole episode , the cub unfortunately passed away after this scene . The little one was bitten pretty bad . But that was amazing watching the mother go on the attack !

It's truly sad. I remember another lioness from a Nat Geo Wild special who lost her two cubs. They were attacked by water buffalo while she was gone. She managed to find her daughter but her back was broken and even though she defended the cub from a group of hyenas, she couldn't fix her child's back. So she was forced to leave her daughter to her fate. The lioness continued to mourn her daughter's inevitable death and her missing son.
She is a mother! You go girl :)))

Tamu was an exceptional Lioness! The male (Simba) was the father of those cubs, Tamu was the OTHER woman, she lived on her own looking for a male, the problem was that Simba had a pride & 5 lionesses , & 9 cubs, Tamu wasn't related to the Lionesses & many times the Lionesses would chase Tamu away! So she lived on the outskirts of The Marsh Pride & she hunted for herself & then when she mated with Simba , Tamu had 4 cubs & she had to hunt to keep her milk, hide the cubs from The WHOLE of The Marsh Pride & even her mate Simba, tried & failed to kill her cubs which were obviously his cubs also!! That is a difficult life for a Lioness, they are the ONLY true social cats, however a Lioness on her own & with 4 cubs to feed is a very different way for a Lioness to be, The females of Marsh Pride, don't like a singular Lioness, it's too strange & not the natural process of Lionesses, the nature of Lions are, they don't like "different" so they either Kill or chase a single Lioness away!! Tamu lost 2 of her Cubs & she originally had 4 male cubs, while Tamu was hunting a herd of Buffalo, came across the cubs & trampled the cubs, thankfully 2 of the cubs climbed up some tall hedges & survived!! When her cubs grew to 2/3 years then the Brothers left & Tamu was killed by a Male Leopard, however, her sons , had a pride of their own & had many cubs! So Tamu legacy lives on in her sons, & their sons & daughters!! Tamu is Swahili for "Sweet or Gentle " 🦁🦁🦁🦁🐅
Thanks for sharing this information. Someone suggested I watch clips of the Marsh Pride. Now I don't have to. I don't like unhappy endings. So sad Tamu was killed by a leopard. RIP brave mom.
Sheena Lewis I meant to say honey, I would still suggest looking up The Marsh Pride, I have the full "BBC Big Cat Diaries" & I'm always watching them, as it's so fascinating, with any wild Lion Prides, there is death, however, there is much more life!! I have studied Lion Prides for over 20yrs, starting with the Cave Lion, did you know they were the size of Rhinos or Hippos? They were bringing down mammoths, so they had to be that size, also, The Male Cave Lions didn't have manes, they had very thick necks & had a hump at the back of their necks, which were solid muscles!! I know you didn't ask sweetheart, just some fun facts!! I don't know if you've watched any of Kevin Richardsons videos? He is also known as The Lion Whisperer, it is also a fascinating channel! I actually follow Kevin Richardson on Facebook and TH-cam. He's amazing and I respect his decision to stop breeding his lions! I love the Ask Meg A Question, but I don't get a chance to watch all his videos.
I heard about the Marsh Pride through a Facebook friend, who lives in Africa. This friend is also a good friend of Kevin Richardson. She is also a lion lover and conservationist in South Africa. She is currently fighting hard to stop captive lion breeding for canned hunting. I totally support her and pray the 24 page report that recently went before Parliament is reviewed, and the industry banned.
I guess I shall check out the Marsh Pride, thanks to you. I still have a hard time getting attached to an animal, then witnessing its demise, even though I know it's the circle of life.

@@_-zerolives-_922 I know I'm really late but she did manage to raise at least two male cubs to adulthood. Luckily only one cub died it was the on the male attacked in the beginning if you listen carefully you can hear it cry out in pain.

True. It was very moving the way in which Tamu spent days looking for all the cubs, and moved them. There is a video on youtube by BBC of her licking the dead cub clearly mourning it was heart rendering, it died after she moved it to a safer area from it's wounds from the rogue male.
Number 1 rule in nature: Never pass up an easy meal. But tied for the Number 1 rule is "Never mess with Momma."

You know what's fucked up is that the male did that so it could be alone with the lioness. Switch the lions with humans and it's the equivalent to a potential serial killer boyfriend.
At the start the male actually killed one of the cubs, then tamu blind sided him. Lucky whilst also being unlucky.
