Just got done with my own facebook special, a Ludwig Element SE kit in Psych Red! Came with a (rewrapped) matching pair of Element 8 & 10 toms which I converted to concert toms for a fun add on. Took apart the kit and cleaned it up, reglued the wrap in some spots, gave it some new heads and I'm excited to bring it to rehearsal!
I've heard the argument for both. I do get the love for direct mount though. It looks cleaner and some people feel it focuses the tone while suspension mounts add ring.
I’ve once played a Ludwig Accent kit, the 22 inch bass drum version, it was the house kit at a gig, and I was blown away with how good it sounded. I looked it up after the gig and was shocked at the price. Never tried the Custom CS version.
The Accent CS Custom are often overlooked and because of that they are super cheap used. A steal for an all birch kit with good hardware. Had the "Elite" version which just means it was lacquered. Cut the kick down to 14" long (22x18 originally) and used it for a bunch of studio recordings.
There’s a number of mid 2000s entry level kits that are actually quite nice, wish we had more of this today with this price point, but it’s a different world now.
@@malonedrum A local drummer I know has been diagnosed with a syndrome that has forced him to retire from playing. So to to share his love of playing and being a teacher he knew of many kids who wanted to play the drums but their families couldn't afford to get them a kit. So he went and bought several used beginner kits, fixed them up, and donated them to very worthy kids. His charity is now a non profit and he always seems to find the most worthy (and talented) young and teen drummers to receive these kits. He always ends up with Tama Imperialstars but also Ludwig Accent kits among other brands. There are so many good clean great shape kits he finds all around the New England area. (I don't want to know how many other kids gave up the drums to sells these drumsets!) They clean up so nice, sound so good, and the kids are beyond moved to get them. Just a new set of the right heads and good tuning makes them sound amazingly nice. A great young drummer I love to watch at local open mic nights got a super rad set of Tama Silverstars with a teal fade lacquer finish from him and it was the nicest kit ever!
well done! beautiful drums. I still have my first kit (ludwig accent cs custom elite) as a backup kit, and it still sounds fantastic for the price. The amber finish is nice as well. totally worth the money
I might be mistaken, but I believe those are poplar. Grain pattern and color don’t look like birch to me at all. Poplar and basswood are typically what lower end, import kits are made of these days. Nice job!
Sweet overhaul! I love stained drum shells. I want to do this to my old Sonor Kit. On a side note, those micro snares that you made from the banjos kinda match the color scheme of this set....just a thought..LOL
I still sorta regret selling my CS Custom. it was the generation prior to this one- the shells were either full mahogany or a blend with basswood, and had satin lacquer shells. At the time the shell pack was 250 bucks, and obviously now we know the days of paying so little for that much craftsmanship on a brand new kit is just totally gone. people would try to sell that kit used with some beat up SP hardware for probably 500 dollars at best on marketplace these days. these look great now, and if it weren't for the updated lugs (mine had pretty generic teardrop lugs) I'd say it was from the same era mine.
Great project man. And I agree that suspension mounts are the worst. Like hey have you ever wanted your toms to be way harder to position, heavier, and sustain pointlessly long? Try suspension mounts. As a vintage drum guy myself now, I could not care less if it is straight bolted to the shell or in a snare stand.
I still have my accent power tone from 2004 bought it in 2008.theas are 12/13/16/22x18 big sound I used it on my gigs.and did some classic rock.it’s black.
All of today’s kits have 10” Toms, I just find them so underwhelming, just too small. I have have hand it to you for all of your hard work with this kit.
If you ever find (or have another birch kit in these sizes),I would pay decent money & shipping cost,to buy a kit like this,with/without suspension mounts,to gig with. I’ve donated entry level kits /snares to young drummers, but I’d love one that has that personal “hands on” care!
That is one of the most horribly marketed kits in history and you can typically find great deals on them. I got one of the lacquered versions with other stuff and made a profit by parting out the stuff. I was going to sell the drums too, but they sound way better than I expected them to. I'm going try cutting the shells down and use it as my "beater" kit. I definitely want to ditch the heavy suspension mounts like you did for the rack toms.
Wow, Mike, talk about finding a diamond in the rough. You turned that plain everyday no frills kit into a super cool instrument. I’ve told you this before, you are a very talented young man, and I enjoy watching you do your thing with these drum projects. Thanks again for sharing.❤️🙏❤️

Very nice
Mike, those are beautiful. Nothing wrong visually with your 10 either. Nice job.
Thanks
Great job. I love the direct to shell mounts. Brings out the look of the drums without huge hardware interfering
This guy knows what’s up

They’re all pretty solid
Mike out here doing absolutely amazing projects and it’s inspiring!
Appreciate the support.
Wow they look beautiful. Awesome job!
Thank you so much!
Really nice phrasing on the toms in the demo!!
Thank you kindly!

As always, great conversion, nice project!
🤘
Really enjoyed this. I have a ludwig accent custom elite in wine red, circa 2006, 9 piece. Still going strong.
That’s a big kit
I have drums on my bench that were purchased 10 years ago ; ) - awesome overhaul!
Rock on!
Nice Mike they look killer. And what a Guy for donating to a friend.
It benefits me too
Excellent work as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
It looks great. Digging the natural finish
Yeah, I love having the wood be the star of the show.

That’s a great backup set to have!
looks and sounds great, cheers!
Thanks
They look great! I want to do this with an old 6.5 Accent snare that I found 👨🔧
You should!
Nice job, Mike!
Thanks!

Might be, just had to use what I could find online for info, but they made so many variations of this set that I could have gotten the wrong info.

It’s a close match!
Whatever you do...save that yellow wrap on the old house kit. That's fantastic! :)
The old kit is absolutely saved, I'm going be sprucing that set up for the owner soon.
They look amazing
Thanks

Hard to find deals like we used to have available to us.

💯💯💯💯
GOtta say it came out really sweet! Have you ever considered refinishing a drumset as a jelly bean kit?
It's not my style, but maybe one day. Only so many projects I can do before I repeat, so new ideas always welcome.
You must have the patience of Jobe..👍🏿
🤙
Nice job man
✌

Great drums!
@@malonedrum thanks
Love me some Ludwig
Always a vibe!
The stain looks great!
Don't worry, nobody uses the 10 inch tom anyway lol
Ha, true!
Nice video thx !
Glad you liked it!

I understand it in the manner of its standard for beginners now to have three tons, and it’s easy to just remove if you don’t like it.

Thanks for checking the video out
Nice
Thanks
Any discernable differences in sound between the two different tom mounts for this kit?
It’s a touch less resonant, but I almost always want a tighter controlled tom sound.
Nice.
Thanks!
Seems you have too heavy and strsight ahead jazz ride hand. Gotta swing that bltch!
Cool kit for sure
Thanks for your valuable input 🙄

Great drums, don’t let the secret get out

hey drumming bro mike, i just emailed you about drums , please read it and we'll talk soon , thank > tom !
Saw your message, thanks for watching
If you think it’s hard making time when you’re self employed you just wait until you guys have kids lol
😬😬
Flipping houses is good, but flipping drums is better! I guess you're learning a lot from DIY and hack king David Raouf.
I love David’s stuff!
