I agree, but to be fair, it's a just reharmonization, not a more "all-in cover" like postmodern jukebox or something.

@@JettoDz the vocal feels "flat" compared to the piano. In no way that she's a bad singer, but i feel like the vocal does need a little bit more colour.
@@bohlam6c I mean, I get your point, I truly do, and I even agree, but it falls in the same place. This reharmonization changed the harmony of the song, not the melody, that's why is just a reharmonization. If they also changed the vibe or flow of the melody -the singing- that would actually change the core of the song, making it a cover. Adam Neely has a video ("Extreme jazz reharmonization", or something around that line) were he talks about that and reharmonizes a pop song, without touching the melody.
Now, I'm not saying you are wrong, because you are not, I'm just pointing that the 'flatness' is justified as this is a reharmonization. I would also love to hear more flex for this style of music, more of a Jam over this song than a strict, same pace and length reharmonization.
plastic love will always be one of my favorite classics, hearing different versions just makes me really good.

I mostly played classical pieces up to this point in my life, but am getting into playing a whole lot of other styles as well recently. Watching you makes me realize how much more I need (and want) to practice to once become the pianist I am dreaming of being. If only there wasn't the lack of time stopping me... Found this while studying for exams and I'm so frustrated. Never heard this song and first time.. this version is great. I checked out the original and this one really gave me a calming vibe. Loved it, would listen to it more on studying lmao

まりや＆達郎のオリジナルは昔から聞いているけれど、それは80‘sな良さ。他のカヴァーも色々聞いたけれど, これは正に”Out of the Blue”で、スカーンとした衝撃を受けました。
Jazzyだけど透明感のあるピアノと、また透明感のあるヴォイスはポップよりだけれど、お二人とも丁寧で繊細なのが伝わってきて、音に幅がある。一発どりとあるので、もっと練習したバージョンも聞きたいなと思いました！^_^
それぞれのスタイルが違うけれど、それぞれの良さが一緒になってるところが最高！今までの概念に捉われない、2020年バージョンだと思いました‼️
