- The best part about making this video for me was that I A) was introduced to Pedro Infante and B) found out a lot of his movies are available to watch for free!!! I love old films and watching his is a perfect way to spend all this time indoors. :) hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

According to the movie, the guy who sings is a teacher from a town and accidentally enters a contest for "Falsete" (pretending to have the highest voice) which is a super common style in Mexican music.
Of course the champion of jinete (which is another name for high pitched singing) was the late great Miguel Aceves Mejia, who was friends with both Infante and Jorge Negrete.

Fun fact: I've heard that Indeed he was supposed to do a falsetto (legado? I think You called it that) but not that long... People weren't supposed to turn around to see him... But it was so amazing and everyone was so surprised that they watch him... Hence the awkward full shot of the movie 😬... It's something I heard and I like to think it's true 🤭🤭
A legend from mexico! An amazing actor and singer. He left us too early unfortunately. But, he is nonetheless a true icon! He had superb breath control and such a clear and smooth voice with an amazing tone. You should check out more from him!

This movie is about a guy from a small town who comes to the big city and gets “discovered” as a singer bu that girls you see there admiring him. The songs happens in a contest where he has to last longer on that falsetto than the girl did just before he did. It is a comedic performance.

Negrete was operatic, Fernandez was intense-find the film clip of him singing 'Volver, Volver', which I suspect is the Mexican National Anthem, and his horse is in the cantina with him-, and Infante just opened his mouth and that voice seemed to float out. I don’t know if you understand Spanish, but I find the experience even more powerful when considering the words and his choices in how he sang them. For example, the last notes with the vibrato sounded to me like the wings a dove aiding it to fly (which he did mention a dove).
The yawned notes were very amusing to me, I really enjoyed the whole performance. He acted out everything he sang...what an amazing entertainer he was.
By the way, this was my first time watching and hearing this performance.

Original mariachi singing is very operatic, but it has its subgenres or a lesser tier where even if you don´t have that boosting voice you can achieve to sing it. Even Pedro Infante was considered to have a smooth voice in the genre. Most sucessful singers of the genre Lola Beltran, Amalia Mendoza, Lucha Villa, Maria de Lourdes, Rocio Durcal.
Male singers : Jorge Negrete, Javier Solis, PEdro Infante, Vicente Fernandez. Check some of them and you´ll find out more about this singing style.

Angel! You know what is great about these performers from mid-century? They all are natural singers! They received influence of Opera singers and other international music currents, but most of them grew up in poor towns or were very humble, hence they developed their talent from listening country singers and traditional folklore. They did not have a whole team teaching them how to Sing better, they just opened up their mouths and started amuse everyone!
