    LYRICS
First you fall then you fly
And you believe that you belong up in the sky
Flap your arms, as you run
Every revolution brings you closer to the sun
You fall asleep in motion in uncharted hemispheres
You wake up with the stars falling down around your ears
When they hit the ground they’re nothing but stones
That’s how you learn to live alone
That’s how you learn to live alone
Bit by bit, you slip away
You lose yourself in pieces n the things that you don’t say
You’re not here, but you’re still there
Sun goes up, the sun goes down you’re not sure you care
You live inside the false till you don’t recognize the true
People send you pictures and you can’t believe it’s you
It’s been years since your house has felt like home
That’s how you learn to live alone
That’s how you learn to live alone
It don’t feel right, but it’s not wrong
It’s just hard to start again this far along
Brick by brick, the letting go
As you walk away from everything you know
You release resistance lean into the wind
Till the roof begins to crumble, the rain comes pouring in
You sit there in the rubble till the rubble feels like home
That’s how you learn to live alone
That’s how you learn to live alone

I gave up on Country Music years ago. I thought it had died when the Outlaw movement simply lost most of its founding members due to old age! (Sorry Willie, thanks be to chronic that you're still with us!) ... I now live on the coast in central Mexico, far away from any Country-KRAP radio stations that spin the same tired, old drug-store-cowboy format. That's just commercial-pop music that wears a fake Stetson and bought the belt buckle; but didn't EARN IT! But there is a growing interest in old-school American Country & Western music here, coming from the hills of Durango . And I was absolutely STUNNED when I heard this song on a late-night pirate radio station broadcasting from here in Mazatlan! I couldn't load up TH-cam quick enough! But here it is!! This beautiful, soulful art-form lives! As I prayed it would. THANK YOU MARY!! Y felicidades tambien a su banda! Me haces TAN CONTENTO escuchar esa musica una otra vez! Ustedes son regalos de las diosas en cielo!!!

💯 agree. I'm don't consider myself a country fan at all. Kinda makes me cringe being from a more urban area. Probably has a lot to do with upbringing and self labels. Don't like boxing myself in anymore. As we "grow", we should grow. Emulating childhood, right? Anyway, I heard this on the credits if a movie called the sweet life (phenomenal BTW) and was stunned. Connects and resonates. Check out Jesse Stewart's marauder and grow old if you like

I have not cried a tear in a very long time. To be honest ... I have felt numb for that long I have forgot what its like to feel joy and happiness. ( not a self pity play BTW!)
But only 5mins ago after listening to this angles voice and lyrics the tears were flowing down my face. I am not a person that writes things like this but I felt compelled to do so.

since your house has felt like home..."
    ah! bleeding feelings...

    • @LazyIRanch
      @LazyIRanch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, the rubble has come to feel like home. Sigh....
Mary can sure turn a phrase!
Another verse from a different song that hit me with it's hard truth was "The War After The War". It's from a brilliant album she wrote with families and their veterans about their experiences.
"Who's gonna care for the ones who care for the ones who went to war?
*There's landmines in the living room and eggshells on the floor*
I lost myself in the shadow of your honor and your pain
You stare out of the window as our dreams go down the drain..."
I haven't lived that myself, but others in my family tragically have. My cousin's son was a Marine who served bravely in Iraq, but came home broken with severe PTSD. He was on a waiting list with the VA to get mental health help, but that help didn't come in time.
He died by suicide 3 years ago because our country spends billions on war machines, but pennies on the brave men and women who devoted their lives to the military. His local VA hospital was hit with massive cutbacks in 2017 because the money was diverted to build the wall at the Southern border. He knew that help wasn't coming after that, so he gave up.

this has not a single one of the flaws that made me give country music a wide berth early on in life. these lyrics , fit to break your heart but sung so matter-of-factly, gain all the more impact from that balance. hits hard. and that's fine with me.
