Greece is a heavenly country, with so much inspiring history that shaped or influenced the world from King Minos to the Trojan wars, to the Myths and legends, to the Spartans taking their stand against the Persians, to Athenian Democracy and glory, to Alexander the Great, to the 4 Generals of Alexander the Great that each had a piece of the empire for centuries after in Ptolemaic Egyptup to the last (Greek) pharaoh Cleopatra which was the grand grand grand grand daughter of Ptolemy one of the 4 generals of Alexander. To the 400years long lasting Greek kingdom in what is now Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan/India and had tremendous influence on the wider area. All the way to the Geniuses like Hypathia many centuries later, and so on. Its full of wonder and splendor

I myself have traveled Greece 50 times now and I can honestly say that Lifestyle hall hasn't even scratched the surface of the other 6000 islands, and what is most striking is the mainland that is just as gorgeous as the island, but like the islands having extreme diversity. Thanks for including Ios. We managed a week there in September 2020 before everything in the UK (and across Europe) became locked down again. In fact, I can even see where we stayed in your short clip. Of course, we can't recommend anyone else goes there - the charm is that it's small and not overcrowded, especially now the 'party places' are no longer a major part of Ios. Now have a few more places on our must-see list from watching your video; Hydra. Delos, Monemvasia and Syros.
Santorini is only overcrowded in Thira and mainly because of day trippers landing in droves there. Steer clear of the unwashed masses and you’ll be fine. In the evening it normally slows down anyway except for the clubs and bars. Oía (pronounced Ía) is the perfect luxury spot for a relaxed holiday lounging dramatically atop the caldera of Santorini. We are a group of world travelers from California, USA. Our experience in Greece: Long story short: Spend 3 days in mainland & museums max. Spend the rest on the islands. For foodie people: Overall food culture in Greece is surprisingly mediocre and limited. Options are numbered (yes! you heard it right! we were shocked too, after reviewing over 100 restaurants from fine-dining to quick bites in mainland and islands) Anyone who has been to the neighboring Turkey/Istanbul/Antalya/Anatolia (literally food porn!) knows what we mean. (We actually took a food break, flew to Antalya/Turkey on a weekend to feast and came back!) While in Greece, basically eat souvlaki/gyro on stale pitas and soggy fries with Greek salad till you drop. (same food shown in this video!) Reheated bland mousakkas. (Soups/legumes/tea/oven-to-table bread/types of olives, beers, spices etc. habits are next to none) attendants are rude, people hardly smile. In Greeks mindset, good food translates fancy rip-off! Greece is so not a foodie country by a world class standard. Athens has a just a few 5 star hotels, all belong to American hotel chains: Grande Bretagne (Marriott group. These guys promote Britain instead of their own brilliant ancient Greek past! The whole concept is nonsense!): Go for breakfast on a deck looking at Acropolis. Coffees are mediocre (Jacobs!), koulouris are stale, very limited options of cheeses. Other 5 star hotel is Hilton, bland, ugly with no character. Balcony view is ugly looking at dusty apartments. Fashionable well-maintained yet frowning ladies all over the city, Piraeus port is like a war zone wreckage scene from Syria, Athens is an ugly graffiti capital and nobody seems to care. ISLANDS: That's where the charm starts!. Real gems, turquoise sea with super romantic ambiance, but again food is bland and next to garbage with a few exceptions (ex. Techne in Hydra, but again limited options). WINE: go white. Reds are not a big deal. BAKLAVAS: Don't bother. Go Gaziantep, Turkey and live the baklava porn with humongous varieties. Fresh from oven. TAVERNAS: Charming ambiance, Yet same bland menu served everywhere (seriously, go to any Meyhane (Turkish tavernas) of your choice in neighboring Turkey instead, but much less charming) Live music is great but Bouzouki over and over. Not much variety (like food). No sugar-free ouzos (In Turkey calories counters can find sugar-free raki). Greek islands ara absolutely amazing, magical and charming, especially if you take your personal chef with you. Cheers
