The Greek islands - Crystal clear water and a paradise for foodies | DW Documentary

- The island world of the Aegean Sea is both fascinating and incredibly diverse. Each island has its own charm and character. The film travels to the Greek Cyclades island group and visits five islands. Along the way, viewers meet people whose love for their islands is tangible.
Ikaria, in the north-eastern Aegean, is known as the island of 100-year-olds. It’s one of the world's five "Blue Zones", where people live to an exceptionally old age. Sifnos is the foodie island. Greece's most famous cook and cookbook author, Nikolaos Tselementes, was born here on this western Cyclades island and it’s no accident that it’s a place where food is important -- on Sifnos, traditional Greek cuisine is interpreted in a modern way. Kimolos is a small island that’s also home to the 95-year-old captain Augusti Galanos. He’s the archipelago’s most famous resident. Polyegos, with its wild goats, who all have names, is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean. And Mykonos, the jet-set island that everyone knows, still holds plenty of surprises.

Greece, my love. I have traveled to 12 islands, and 50 times across the mainland to many mountain regions from north till south of the country. It's divine. Greece is in my heart
I have visited Greece 4 times since 2010, 3 visits to Santorini! , once in Jan 2014, it was cold and raining when I took the boat tour from Santorini to the volcano Island 😊 My 2019 visit was from Ferthyi, Turkey, took a 90 minutes speed ferry to Rhode Island and spend 5 wonderful days there. It was difficult to leave, I met so many lovely people at my hostel! It was so nice to cook a simple meal in the newly renovated kitchen with free cook books! Rhonda became my new favorite after Santorini and Crete! I visited Crete during the Greek Easter accidentally, so supermarket were closed for 2 days, it was a bit frustrating because everything shuts down!
I think few people discovered that there are similar costal towns on the Turkish Rivera, such as KOS, tranquil and pristine and cheaper due to Lira. I visited during June 2019, just a few days before visiting Rhode Island. Both Aegean coastlines are very similar, I love to visit there again!

Greek Islands are absolutely stunning
I was feel at home when visiting Greece
Beautiful place , amazing food and warm people 😍
In 1987 I was in Ikaria with friends. We stayed in Evdilos and we used to eat in one of the tavernas of the port. We were stunned to find out that when the fish weren't fresh from the day's catch, they refused to serve us. Therefore, I strongly believe that one of the factors of their longevity is due to their honesty and clear consciousness. I have so much respect for these islanders and I hope that all that publicity didn't ruin their souls.
Greece is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe I've ever visited the amazing food, culture, kind hospitality of the people was a nice experience
Beautiful documentary. It only scratched the surface and there are so many many other great unknown places to explore.
Many pay hundreds for fine dining at a fine restaurant. Go to any Greek garden ,pick a tomato and eat it. Heaven !!!
Greece is full of wonders!I saw with my own eyes.❤

@@DWDocumentary you went only to the arid cyclades island who are part of a volcano system/eruptions. Try to go to the real greek islands like the sporades, the ionian islands, or thasos and samothraki. And just visit the mainland from livadeia to florina , greek macedonia and epirus, those areas are the spine of greece the pindus mountains the continuation of dinaric alps into greece. It s sad that majority of greece is mountains with lush forests of fir, chestnuts etc and even bears and you show some arid islands who make less than 5 per cent of greece. You give people the wrong idea of greece. Go to kastoria, karditsa lake plastira, vovousa, florina, chalkidiki, olympus etc

@@DWDocumentary Has your team visited the other side of the Aegean coastlines such as the Turkish Rivera? I found so many similarities between both countries, the only differences are the languages and the currency!
In June/ July 2019, I traveled all over the Turkish Rivera + pamukkali and Cappadocia, with 5 days in Rhode Island via speed ferry. The seaside town of KAS, looks so Greek, White stone paths, blue roof etc. It was difficult to end my vacation after 3 weeks there!😊 There are so many Roman ruins in Turkey and it's cheaper to visit the museums there

We're a BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY who has a neighbour that's a " piranha " Turkey neither respects our air or territorial space, continually violating both. We have to spend a great part of our budget on DEFENCE. They still occupy a part of CYPRESS, something everyone seems to have forgotten elsewhere.
We have bigger enemies inside our country.
Our corrupt government, which is governing together with drug dealers, is making survival in this country even more difficult year by year.
Let's focus on them first.
Msg from Istanbul: My dear neighbour, whenever I travel abroad, since I was 10 years old, my best friends have been Greeks - some, lifetime friends, that I have been blessed with. We share the same beautiful Aegean Sea, western part of Turkey has many similarities & culture (Greeks are much better in protecting & preserving). Politics and politicians mess up many things. We shall never allow them to separate the two communities; I personally dont, naturally everyone is free to make up their mind and life style. Enjoy the summer, in great health & with your loved ones. Yamas & şerefe! 🍷🍷

I think this doc wasn't to show Greece but more about the so called blue zones where people live longer on average
BEAUTIFUL PLACE
Haha. Someone was looking for a nice work/vacation. Good job!
Unfortunately tourism creates it's own problems.
The government is pressured to provide the tourism sector with cheap labour, against the interests of the workers.
Thousands of young people live under poor conditions, working up to 12 hours/day, very often 7 days/week for at least 6 months.
Big foreign businesses have created their own hotels and they can't seem to find workers, hence the Greek govt is turning a blind eye to all the abuse the workers receive and even considering changing the laws for benefits, effectively creating poorer people looking for a job
They prefer to import workers than to improve the work conditions for the locals. Greece is beautiful but the Greek state is ugly AF.
I’m really shocked to hear that!

so beautiful place I pray to God 🙏🙏 that blessed me with this place for me to rest. I wanted to live in simple life and I hate living in yhe City. this is the kind of place i wanted to live for the rest of my life.
Interesting that after WWII so many emigrated from these beautiful islands and now they appear to be a more desirable place to live than those places they emigrated to.
The quiet island is my fave. Curious if Mykonos’ reservoir also down from incr tourism and residents over time?

Let's hope turkey doesn't invade any of them... because turkey has its own definition of history and geography, unfortunately...
One thing that I've learned about the documentary is. Is not about the diet, the people, or the environment. Or what are our nationalities, our ethnicity, color etc.
I have learned to be proud of our own nationalities, cultures, food, and diet. That's the key to long life. We shouldn't be accumulated by media, high standards of diet. Eat this eat that.
Because in the first place, we Filipinos have a fertile land, good beaches, places, and more. Our diet consists of rice, crops, fish, and some meat. We dont get sick we also have centenarians here. Sticking to a simple diet and lifestyle.
Engels and Volkers approves this video
Unwatchable. Slow motion technic was used so often.
I agree with you. It sounds more a publicity format that a true documentary, the music used also
Can you add AI speakers for many different languages on your TH-cam channel? That is wonderful. The people from all of world can listen or watch your videos with their languages. You will get more fans.

There is another documentary about greek islands and seas by bbc go watch that
The islands are nice but the mainland is much more beautiful and diverse
There were also some Greeks among those who came to worship on the feast. They therefore came to Philip from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we want to see Jesus
And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come that the Son of man should be glorified.
is there anybody who can help with the following queries: 1. sources of income in these islands? 2. cost/expense of basic daily life? 3. education/professions in here? trying to understand the lifestyle there, 4. cost of travel (how to minimize), 5. accommodation + fooding expenses (if somebody wishes to stay for more than10 days or so and have a relaxed trip).
There should be a penalty for not showing the actual food dish but only talking about it and showing the preparation. It would be like talking about beautiful beaches and then only showing a sandbank without the water. EDIT: In fact, I have never seen a documentary in which the word "food" figures so prominently and yet shows only a single dish for about 3 seconds @19:24.
You can check out Greek chef's Akis P from Athens, who has done few seasons of Greek food tour all over Greece. He's Greek cooking champion and cooks authentic Greek cuisine all over mainland Greece.
What is he trying to say.

Is it the air, outdoor, the sea, the lifestyle. No, it's the poor record keeping.
The most in debt country in the world (public and private debt combined ) is the uk. The most in debt county in the world when it comes to public debt is japan. Any comments about the recent deaths of Western tourists on Greek islands? It's up to 5 plus now. ... Beauty is dangerous.
Unfortunately it's the stupidity of the people who go out to hike or tramp in a heatwave on their own probably without asking locals anything about where they should go or if there are any dangers. Don't forget temperatures are taken in the shade so imagine how hot it's in total sunlight. Do as the locals . Avoid overdoing it at lunchtime. Have a siesta instead. Και όλα καλά θα πανε😊.

If Greece is so beautiful. They why are they the most angry and depressed citizens in the all of Europe?
You if you were hearing lies about yourself you wouldn't be depressed?
