    Between "Mile. Mile And A Half" and your videos, I have been inspired to start back packing. Went to REI in Sacramento and got my equipment and will start my first trip in September, right after my 71st birthday. Thanks for all the great videos. Hope to meet you on the trail some where.

    What an inspiring video. How wonderful you kept it up instead of letting your injuries discourage you. I injured my ankle and achilles tendon while hiking the JMT, was about 1/3 of the way through when I decided it was best to trail off and return home until I recover. Then I would go back to finish remaining part of the trail. One thing about thru-hiking is that it is a spiritual journey, and on all spiritual journeys there is suffering and pain, growth and humiliation, but most importantly purification. As with many pilgrimages, the body purifies. So I am so happy for you. Hiking in the wilderness is my love and I don't see myself stopping EVER. Next summer I hope to be able to do the TYT as well. Again, thank you for all the wonderful videos. Peaceful Trails _/\_

    @tracy o'brien I try to narrate as if it is my personal diary to read/watch later. That makes me focus on what's important to ME. It makes it personal. I'm not out there to make a dry documentary of nature. Ultimately, if no one watches my videos, it won't matter because I have my own account to rewatch and relive. I also think of my dad and mom who are my biggest supporters and what I would want to show them. Some people don't appreciate the more personal stories. They want landscape and nature and vistas, etc. And that's great! But I focus on the human experience.

    What an epic place to hike,you prefer the solo hikes? I prefer the long solo cycle rides just the solitude and when I complete them more sense of achievement!
    Look forward to more uploads!

    I was just turned on to your channel. I love your videos. They capture the essence of solo backpacking. I find your narration interesting and entertaining. How do you decide what to talk to us about? When I hike, it never occurs to me how I might narrate my adventure as it's happening if anyone were watching me.

    Your videos are entertaining. considered submitting to Sundance film festival and academy awards as a documentary. The best of the 2 is the Tahoe/Yosemite hike, its shorter and more humorous. IMHO. I do not know the criteria, but GO FOR IT!You are good!

    Wondering what maps you used for this trek???
    I love your vids and your sense of humor and the fact that nature brings tears to your eyes. Godspeed.

    Nice work on the video of Tahoe hike. Just like the stuff you focus on I guess. I am a noob always will be but...when you asked what are missing as far as what the PCT hikers did, have you ever considered more ridiculously lighter gear?

  • @pedallinraw
    @pedallinraw 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Think we met roundabouts the time I found dan the man vids,pretty sure! ?
    Road bike vid be cool or mtb,I'd like to mtb tour divide :)
    Was gna ask per the square mileage on the pct what is the bear population? I only ask because it's something folk always say 'what about the bears' an you never see one! Not that you wna! Marmots are good,we love marmots.
    :)

    This is massively entertaining. My dad and his family did the trail in '71, I grew up on thru hikers tales. I want to do the trail myself, along with a bunch of other pieces of the PCT. How do you meet people who are also into backpacking? I'm too green to go on my own. Edit: I'm also from Sacramento, so advice on local stuff is totally acceptable!

    • @LandmarkAdventures
      @LandmarkAdventures  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know how to meet people! 99% of the time I've always been alone. I met a nice couple on the JMT this year that I went hiking with again. That's a first. But I'm sure there's local groups or clubs.

    • @benchantics
      @benchantics 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that wasn't helpful at all. lol Just kidding. I was thinking about trying to find a local Sierra Club Chapter. Thanks anyway!

    Which map(s) did you use on this trail?
    Can you please offer a link?
    I hope to hike Tahoe to Yosemite (on the PCT) and then the JMT to Whitney this summer!!! (I am starting mid-August, already obtained my permit).
    Your video-blog helped A LOT! so thanks again :)

    Awesome. Speaking on bears, i have way too many bear chase dreams to ever hike so deep in the wilderness. Im a scardy cat. But at least on a bike trail, i have a chance in hell to get away? Or at least thats what i tell myself XD

    I prefer long solo rides too. I may put up vids of my downhill mountain biking but I also have a nice road bike and have done many a century. A couple for charities. Most solo. Nothing like cruising all day and realizing you road 120 miles. You've done 180? 200? Right? Wow... I need more bananas ;) Maybe I'll make a road cycling vid like you do

    Have you ever thought of adding a drone with camera? That would be awesome and will definitely give you great videos and shots. You don't have to go back and retrieve your camera for long shots.

      Lots of national parks have already outlawed the use of such devices, and I suspect that all the others will follow suit.
