@@GumpChungulus That’s gotta be BS. The soccer World Cup final has more than a billion viewers. It’s the biggest sports venue in the world though. It can fit anywhere from 250 000 to close to 400 000, which mean maybe that it is indeed the sports stadium with the largest capacity.
Yet another informative video! Thanks. I actually make another cameo appearance in this video... No seriously.- My wife, daughter I were each holding a red card in the "Thank you Jim" sign. That was his last performance! When you are in your 80s flights from Hawaii to Indiana and back, I'm sure they were becoming tedious. We'll never forget you Jim... And you're preserved on TH-cam now for future fans to witness and enjoy!
Thanks Greg! And wow thats cool! Ah Jim, for so long what made the Indy 500 special! Tradition and a respect for the history that's come before it! Great like you said that his legacy last forever on TH-cam! Enjoy the race Greg!
Jim Clark was my favorite from the 1960s, and, yes, favorite of all. I still remember Clark in the Lotus battling Hill in the BRM, way back when ABC's Wide World of Sports carried F1 races. Best I remember, Clark raced Les Mans, but never with a top car. (Maybe a Lotus Cortina?) He probably belonged in one of the big Fords?
Hey guys! Great video - nice to see the subscriber count continues to increase! We are expecting below average temperatures in Indy tomorrow and I expect it to be an amazing tight race.
It's going to be below average here in NC too for the 600 this evening. It's hard to believe it was in the 90s this past week here. Probably even colder by the Wabash. Cold=Grip =Speed!
I always come back to this video it’s so great!! As someone who lives in Indiana and comes to qualifying every year it’s always so great its my dream to come to the 500!
@@IndyFanatics I would say my top 5 ovals (in no particular order) are: Indianapolis, Gateway, Iowa, Milwaukee Mile and Pocono. Honourable mentions, Fontana, Rio de Janeiro (I think it's a bit of a shame Fontana's being turned into a short track). As you can probably tell, I'm more comfortable with short ovals, although when done well superspeedway races can be breathtaking (e.g. Fontana 2015, even though I'm not a fan of pack racing). Unfortunately they also tend to have the biggest accidents! Indianapolis is different to the other superspeedway races though. More practice, therefore more preparation time to get comfortable with the track and the car, and well, it's the biggest race. If I were driving in IndyCar I feel like I'd be slightly less intimidated by Indianapolis than other superspeedways and cookie cutters like Texas. I might have opted to do what Max Chilton's done for the last couple of years: road courses, street circuits and Indianapolis. Maybe add in a short oval if there was one in the early stages of the season before Indy (e.g. Phoenix), to get somewhat used to oval racing.
It's a pretty strong top 5 list! But yeah you're absolutely right those superspeedways can be a tricky beast to tame and Indianapolis has definitely nailed the preparation for it! But hey its the greatest spectacle in racing and has been going since 1911. Was always going to get it right!
To Anyone who has not experienced this in person and doubts the elecricity on race day...give it a chance...i am blessed to be able to work this event since 2019. I have also experienced it as a spectator and gotten to enjoy the party that goes on in the Coca-Cola lot...and neighborhood's surrounding the speedway on race weekend...just love the feeling of it all...since starting to work the race, do i miss the party...yes i do...but being able to work one of the greatest spactacles in motorsports its worth the sacrifice!!!
I would like a video on Jim Clark, Colin Chapman, and the rear-engine cars at the Indianapolis 500. I got interested in auto racing about 1963, when Clark's Lotus-Ford finished second (to Parnelli Jones) and ABC's Wide World of Sports showed that same Jimmy Clark winning Formula 1 race after race. He (and Cap[man) won seven of ten F1 races that season. Best I remember the '63 Indy 500, the Lotus did not have the torque of all the front-wheel Offenhauser cars, but Clark kept up a higher speed in the corners and took fewer pit stops. The Lotus broke down in 1964, when there were several more rear-engine cars. In 1965, Clark and the Lotus-Ford pretty much wiped up the Indianapolis. (I had the 1963 Car & Driver issue the covered the 500. I think Jones said something like "Nobody picks grapes at The Brickyard") Clark was a great driver, and he and Lotus changed everything at the Indianapolis 500.
I’m about to move to Indiana this fall (grad school, woo), and I’m hyped! Hopefully I can see the Indy 500 or another event down in Indianapolis at some point. I’ve never been able to go to a proper race before, since I’ve been living pretty far from any big tracks until now.
I think because you have to look into Oval Racing and understand it to really appreciate why its such a good form of racing. If you've never watched it and don't know about it you just think it's racing round in circles and seeming as America is the only country with a huge oval racing history, people haven't really grown up with it outside the U.S and don't understand it. I think that's why atleast 😂
RHR certainly has what it takes! He broke Helio's heart and is the reason Helio is still not a four time winner. Do you think RHR would do it to Helio again to win? In a heartbeat!!! Here's hoping the racing gods look kindly on his effort today. They have been rather cruel to him of late.
@@dack4dust856 Maybe, Maybe.. the timeline seems to fit. I was watching too & yelled @ Wickens- You can't go 2 wide into the tunnel turn on the first lap... He paid so dearly for that.
I have no idea where I got he was French from, I don't know how I have completely mixed that one up! Thankyou for highlighting to me the mistake, will leave a pinned comment and correction in the description
I think its different skill sets. Both are extremely hard to do in their own right. There is a reason more F1 drivers haven't done an Alonso and wanted to try and compete in the 500, it's because 1 mistake at those speeds and you are hitting a wall at well over 200mph. The strategy in oval racing I think is a lot more complex than a standard race track as well. It's more like a slow chess game that comes to a crescendo in the last 50 laps on who has nailed the strategy. Where a race track you can pretty much identify most winners/2 contenders, bar mechanical failure after the first half of the race. Like I said, I think there is huge skill in both, guess it just comes down to personal preference what you think is more/less skillful. We just sit on the side that both are pretty damn impressive!
I tell you what this year's 500 was more exciting than any of the F1 races this season and that comes from a fan of both series! Dont knock it, they are both great 😉

It's the biggest sporting event in the world, any sport.

Definitely think it is the biggest open wheel race in the world!

Every driver has to declare what type of milk they prefer in the Winner's Circle: whole, 2%, 1% or skim. Seriously. Why not chocolate? hahahaha!!

I mean JPM is a proper joker there but I guess chocolate milk would feel a bit strange 😂 interesting all the choices they pick though!
