This was a big influence on me years ago, but my old band has more views. It’s a shame that some of the bands that shape music never receive their dues.
Got turned onto this band when Far toured with Deftones. Couple years later Jonah went solo and my sisters ended up organising a show for him in Manchester, England. They snuck me into a bar at the tender age of 10 but we all got kicked out because drugs were found in the bathrooms so Jonah ran over to a little under-ground restaurant he'd eaten at that day and asked if he could play the show there. They said yeah and he returned with about 80-ish people. We disturbed everyone having their quiet candle lit dinner and he played one of the most incredible shows. The highlight was when he high-fived me and said, "Cool, you're ten!" Fun times, and glad to listen back and know my music tastes as a 10 year old were as cool as I thought they were!
the chorus to "Mother Mary" is really good, it's catchy, it has that"stays playing in your head" catchiness to it and THAT'S a good thing! that's how songs get remembered and bands make it big. I didn't even know about this band until about two weeks ago, now I have them in my playlist and I love the feel of it. great band!!! 💯💯💯💯🔥
OUR LADY bought me here . so here goes : Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
I saw them in 95/96 at Berkley square by mistake(went to see another band, got the dates flipped) Was totally blown away and I think my ears are still ringing, loudest band ever and I felt every emotion!
Thats its true Far and Deftones are very good friends for a long time Jonah Matranga (Far vocalist) participate in the Bored video and they are play in live so many times in the 90´s, and play together in a few cover songs in studio, Far its a very good band one of my favorite and deftones its my favorite band :P
My cousin was their sound engineer during a tour back in ‘98. My first exposure to emo rock, before it became more pop oriented, when it was still fresh with its strong hard-hitting post-punk roots.
Because the pioneers of post-hardcore in the form that it is now are Glassjaw. This genre, like emo, was more about emotionality rather than expressiveness like “I fucked you in the mouth, you’re a sucker, I’m a sucker, life is shit, I hate women and ect.”
Remember when they were on JBTV with Incubus back in 1998. Jonah used to love coming out on stage to throw some harmonies in the mix with Brandon Boyd on the song Summer Romance
so I was cleaning out an old house im working on the other day and found this single cd.. wasn't too scratched. popped it in the truck on the way home and was like "fuck yea" cranked it up and put the windows down.
when did that happen?? to my knowledge they've just begun because I'm now listening to them and love it!!! the beauty of music is that it's a timeless art form . like all art, it lives forever, grows, changes, evolves, matures and gets better and better as the years go by. music is the soundtrack of our lives!! -Aaron Goodwin
I very much was "there", unless you think I'm pretending to be in my late 20's on youtube. Saw shows every weekend at the LaFayette in Taunton, Duxbury VFW, Juice Bar in Orleans, Beal House in Kingston, American Legion in Marshfield, etc, etc, in addition to clubs on Lansdowne St and the Worcester Palladium when they had all ages shows. I can't imagine how sad someone's life must be to have made up biographical details like that. As far as '"real screamo"' I thank you for the hearty laugh.
Zerophoenix1 Poor guy... You do not have to say music from the 90s was the shit, it's your personal point of view and everybody doesn't care about it... Say you don't like ok it's your opinion. In fact shit is your spirit... RIP shit man
See, this is what emo was like in the 90's before it got mutated into some unrecognizable blend of Kanye, numetal, J-rock, and pop punk. It used to be a bunch of genuinely nerdy guys with names like Seth and Colin playing simple, genuine post-hardcore at VFW halls and Unitarian churches in Boston and New York exurbs. Now it's a bunch of androgynous cartoon characters named Davey Deathkill and Fionn Narcotic with guyliner and sprayed on tshirts playing Nascar arenas in Muncie, Indiana.
I'm a bit late to this comment but God danm this is some stupid shit. You realize that j rock is hugely inspired by post-hardcore right? Not the other way around you brainlet. Also pop punk has always been associated with emo ever since jawbreaker. If anything far was one of the first post-hardcore/emo bands to have mtv/mainstream credibility, which arguably opened the flood gates for the bands you complain about to come so🤷♂️
Also don't know where tf your getting from Kanye and nu metal from lmao, when you wrote your comment emo rap was barely a thing bruh how could you immediately hate something that wasn't even a thing yet💀
I've been trying to find a Far song for years. Can anyone here help me? Google hasn't been able to. It's a fast paced up tempo song, somewhere in the lyrics says something along the lines of "In this death we see our lies right before I'm high you have said too much and it's a liiiiie!!!" and the song ends with him just saying, "Turn that fucking tv off"
OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO! this is SO TRIPPY. literally last night, i was watching queer as folk, and this exact song came on, and i literally typed in the SAME lyrics as you in quotation marks and for literally a half hour straight i was trying to find the song on google and couldn't! wow it must be somethin really special that we both had the same exact experience searching... if anyone knows how to find it lmk! i'm buddies with Jonah (lead singer) out here in Cali so now that i know it's an old Far song, i'm finna ask him too ahah
i sure did! and he sent me : jonahmatranga.bandcamp.com/track/media and a longer version: jonahmatranga.bandcamp.com/track/media-2 ha, sorry i didn't share sooner
Love the song, but that flailing thing the singer's doing...was that cool back when this was made? I didn't have the MTVs back then. I halfway like it...I halfway want to have a hysterical snerking fit.
can't think of anything as annoying as faux "nerdy" guys pretending to be nerdy to build an image. let me guess, you found out about these bands and the 90s scene from the internet, and now go around talking about shit as if you were there. it's the same with "real screamo", people born in the 90s teaching other 90s kids what "real scremo" is and was.
and don't forget they wear really tight uncalled for jeans (smh). Take care of your boys down under gentlemen, loose fitted jeans. Save the tight stuff for the women.
This band should have been huge. This is one of the best post-hardcore songs ever.
It boggles my mind to this day.
Its emo,bruh
This was a big influence on me years ago, but my old band has more views. It’s a shame that some of the bands that shape music never receive their dues.
“Post hardcore” no
But with that said I agree with the band being good. Just wouldn’t consider this post hardcore. More like post-grunge and pop punk mixed in a blended

I was switched onto this band because of Deftones.
Nadine Lababedi he literally stayed at my house in mesa az for the one line solo stuff. miss this jam
You disturbed what, WHAT?! :D
I just read about that night in his book, Lucky you!
Wow that's a movie right there
when I saw them there were 7 of us in the crowd. Still one of the best shows I have ever been to.
They played at my high school circa 1999/2000. So awesome.
Sacramento?
you went to Enumclaw High School with me. I remember that concert!
@@pwi-ku9ss yup, it was Enumclaw! Hi!
Such an underrated band, they deserved to hit big.
1997- Dallas, TX @ Trees... Far, Deftones, Will Haven= EPIC! I will never forget!
Play On Wow! God dam that must’ve been a show
same here in germany, cologne ...great!
Dallas in the house
I was there. 😊🤘

a fantastic and under appreciated song. Thank you Far
2018 baby. Saw Far in concert with Deftones in the 90s. Still a good fall back band. Great stuff.
That beautiful like Weezer vocals.. Crisp lefty Drummer playing on a right handed kit.. great guitars.. it‘s 2022 and I still love to listen

Saw these guys play in a little club here in Colorado Springs in the 90's with Fishbone. Good band.

Up until glassjaw ruined everything
@@usualdosage7287 glassjaw is amazing tf you mean 😭

1998, That decade died forever with excelent music and rock bands. I was 17 yo and now 37, so bad.
Awesome band! didn't know about them until now.
the chorus just caught my heart lol

Hearing for the first time in 2016 and its still the shit in 2016
It really is. So underrated.
enough lovely
Huh the guitarist shaun lopez and chino moreno formed crosses
one of my favorite , great song
Bad ass to this day!!!
I used to go to their shows in Sacramento CA when they played with deftones before they got big. Backyard shows and local stuff.
Crosses brought me here 🤘🤘
The first show I went to was these guys. Now I didn't know who these guys were, but great show. This was like 97 or 98
This music video for “Mother Mary” by Far was directed by Darren Doane.
@0:22 is that the same spot they shot be quiet and drive for deftones?
Def looks like it
Thought the same thing. Both of the bands are from Sacramento. Probably shot it in the same spot
It would b crazy cool lmao
q cancion tan buena
Seen these guys with at the Cattle Club so many times
great band !
So sad that this kind of music died...
it didnt
This kind of music is alive and well. It’s a shame that this band doesn’t get more recognition and credit as pioneers.
Yea, there's still this type of music. Check out Title Fight for example.

Pretty cool
Yep....saw these guys with Deftones at Tipitinas..... every one in the crowd... Minds fukin Blown!
Deftones were great, but Far grabbed all our souls!
This is true I grew up with him in my life all the time. He is actually my god-father.
We all live on. In cellphones and digital apps...
quite possibly the greatest thing I have read on youtube
