This is the XT (like the stubby but extendable), mostly because the XT casting allows the vane to be tilted easily. There's certain wind angles with the standard vane (upright) where it would bang, thonk, thonk, thonk on one of our twin backstays and we couldn't always cure it with the usual tilt mechanism. It drove us to distraction as well as wearing through the cover. On this trip the vane seemed quite effective tilted 45 degrees - I didn't really notice a steering difference to be honest. The extendible bit should allow more power as needed, but I haven't experimented much with that. A bit of a dark art all round!
@264Rockape Thank you. This is a 2004 Vancouver 34C - there's a proper walk-through with all the details here: th-cam.com/video/nam-CiRf_mo/w-d-xo.html
Oh - and I got into sailing in general because I was once a keen sea-kayaker and fancied something different. And I got into this kind of sailing when I realised it was like having a campervan that could travel oceans.
It's an important question and I can't believe we didn't video the outcome. We were just in time for fish and chips in Plymouth centre on Sunday evening about an hour after we moored. Then we slept a lot
Loved hitching a ride with you two through the non-accessible vast isolation. Thanks for a delightful trip!
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant UK Paul Yorkshire , good luck , good filming , , ace , , .👍.
Isn't it lovely to turn off the motor and observe the quiet?! Safe travels. ❤
It's marvellous. We half thought of just waiting out there in silence for the wind to come to us. The urge to keep moving won though!
Superb. Great . No stress. Thanks for upload Cap.
Glad you enjoyed it

Absolutely loved this video. I adored the way you parked the vessel at the end, you make it look so easy! 0:02
I reckon if we had made a mess of it at the end, I'd have quietly ignored posting that bit 😁

Nice
Very enjoyable, may i ask why you have a stubby hydrovane as opposed to a standard one. Regards Paul Plymouth.

Got to ask, did you get the fish and chips and if so from where? Damn fool question I know! What an excellent trip video! Thank you!

@@theoddvoyage welcome back and enjoy the rest of the season! Where you off too next?
We're hoping to be in western Scotland before winter. Just working out some boat maintenance first.
@@theoddvoyage then enjoy every moment of it and keep the camera rolling please!
15:52 did you make a cup of tea before you took the reef out?
