    Good Vid. Towards the end of my career at 1st Recon I was doing a lot of FID. Bc of my Spanish speaking I was sent a lot to central and South America. Yeah it kept me from doing R&S with a actual team supporting Marines or adjacent units, but it was a change of pace. I was pretty much teaching basic combat patrolling or marksmanship to these guys. Biggest thing I learned was this- Do not expected much out of these guys, they are not Recon Marines or any other selected and specialized trained group of dudes. Occasionally I would train the host country’s SPECOPS dudes, and you could tell a difference in discipline, but still.
    The brotherhood while at 1st Recon was and will be unforgettable. The training and deployment are great and we did have several opportunities to get lots of bilateral training/missions along side our SOCOM brothers.

    The title should be...
    Should you TRY OUT for Recon or Marsoc?
    Lol, so many kids nowadays think they're gonna be tier 2 or 1 operators out of high-school. The whole Call of Duty generation.
    No one wants to be support mos anymore. Guess the military is gonna have to make lots of support role robots very soon cuz everyone thinks they're gonna be John Wick by 18 lol..

      Today's Tier 1 and 2 operators are part of the "Call of Duty generation"... CoD has been popular for decades..
      The game that made CoD into a hit online multiplayer franchise, CoD4 Modern Warfare came out in 2007. I know if you're pretty old, 2007 doesn't seem that long ago, but it was 17 years ago. The kids playing it in high school back then are in their 30s now.
      When did anyone ever want to be a support MOS? Elite units have always been lionzed and had legions of kids wanting to join them. During the Vietnam War, every boy wanted to be a tiger stripe camo wearing Green Beret, like John Wayne.
      During and after WW2, they all wanted to be badass paratroopers, Rangers, and Marines.

    Can you join marsoc or recon if you have glasses or get an eye corrective surgery, like lasik or prk, prior to joining the marine corps?

    • @young.angry.devildawg
      @young.angry.devildawg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wait until you actually join before getting lasik, if you haven’t gotten it already, of course. the corps will pay off EVERYTHING for your surgery. if you already did get eye surgery, then yes, you can join marsoc or recon.

      from what i know, the chances of anything going wrong is pretty low for eye surgery. however there’s always the chance for you to go blind, automatically disqualifying you from military service, and greatly impacting your life. although it’s very unlikely to happen, it’s still a possibility. i’d talk to a recruiter first if i were you, and find out how good your vision needs to be. if your eyesight is good enough, then i wouldn’t go through with a surgery if i were you. also keep in mind, you might be able to join marsoc or recon even with bad vision, if you get a waiver for it. just be sure you put 110% effort into everything you do at all times. this’ll only work if they really want you to be a raider/recon marine. show up in great shape, crush the pft and cft every time, and try not to get in trouble too often, and you might just get in, regardless of your vision.

      I am getting prk end of year before, I’d say get it before if money isn’t an issue, a lot better to go through dirty field training and water activity’s then have to fuck around with contacts and glasses

      Zero combat since 2012… total waste of taxpayers dollars. They spend 6 months at a time training and floating around on ships, no combat, no action, nothing but training. That is a fact.
