  • #2102 leading an excursion train commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution. Eastbound seen at Birdsboro on a foggy morning - I believe this went to Norristown for a ceremony - then westbound return at Lorane. I cut school to take photos and I believe my school principal did the same as he loved trains too. :-)

That was when Conrail let BM&R run mainline excursions. They can't do that on NS now because in 1994 friction bearings were banned from interchange and NS had 21st Century Steam and 765 even ran from near Bethlehem to Pittston over NS and RBMN in late August 2015, I was on it. So, the excursions over Conrail in the 80's were a once in a lifetime thing although Amtrak ran fall excursions through Reading in Nov 2014 and late Oct 2016 through Allentown and Reading and Harrisburg and return via Philly back to New York. The Nov 2014 excursions departed Philly and went through Reading to Harrisburg and back over the same route, NS's former Conrail and Reading lines that are currently freight only, Amtrak wants to start new train services from Reading to Philly, Allentown to NY and Scranton and Mount Pocono to NY. I live west of Allentown. There were so many rare steam and diesel excursions in eastern PA and NJ that I missed that will probably never be repeated again.

What whistle did #2102 use here?
To be honest, I think that this whistle would’ve sounded great on R&N #425.

So, I guess it’s an ATSF 5 chime now. No wonder why it sounds familiar.

That whistle should go in the revamp of that 2102 nutshell of yours if you make it someday, along with that B&M 6 chime. That and also adding them to the upcoming pack 13.
