- The Olympic Auditorium on 18th and Grand was home to world-class boxing, wrestling and even roller derby. It was "showtime" in the city before the Lakers, a mecca for entertainment in the Southland. Now, there's a film "18th and Grand" about the iconic sports venue in L.A., which is now a church and, somehow, still an unprotected landmark.
Always hard to accept that an iconic structure like the Olympic eventually closed its doors to what made it a legend among fight fans.
That's a great way to put it. "The body is there but the soul is gone." It saddens me to see it in it's present state after all its glory. I had great times there.
I gotta watch this! Jimmy Lennon sr and Jr are LA legends like skully n chick
Every "history" of the Olympic fails to mention the fantastic punk shows there and its place in hardcore history. Dead Kennedys International event? Etc..
It's almost like they are in denial. That place was about to go under the gigs started there. I went to tons of gigs there and even played there once myself. Fun times.
Best Christmas 🎄 lot in easy los
My father’s first fight was here in the 70’s.
Would have loved to see the great la wrestling and boxing and suicidal tendencies there being from the east coast it very exciting to me
