if you were going to tile a large floor with a bunch of bumps and dips what would be your process to identify all of them? and what tools and materials would you use to fix the situation?
Ungauged skate would not work very well with any leveling clips. You’d be more setting like a mason where you are adding thinset under to even out things the best you can, if it’s just a slight rough surface, the clips would still help. Something like MLT might be a better choice of clip for That www.contractorsdirect.com/MLT-Leveling-System-Starter-Kit
Concrete leveler solves several of the problems. You can put it on wood as well, and it is very strong. Also, people tile directly onto plywood all the time. Just make sure to seal it and remember, a lot of tile used to go directly onto plywood, or plywood topped with concrete. Hence the idea of using concrete leveler.
Helps explain the old advice from decades ago to nail down a sheet of luan every inch, creating a nightmare for anyone removing it, when doing a new tile floor.
So the uncoupling membrane uncouples the tile from the subfloor. So now what is holding the tile down is gravity and the thinnest glueing the tiles to each other and the grout. Every substance expands and contracts. I thought of this the first time I saw this product used. There are some very basic contradictions in the theory behind uncoupling membrane for tile.I think hardybackerand Flexbond are a better idea.
Maybe a better idea to baseboard after grouting the floor. It’s impossible to grout your joints completely when baseboards sitting on top of it if water rolls under the base the floor is unprotected
Just wrapped up my slate floor. This explained it in a very straight forward manner. Just do trim after not before
Great job Steve, always inspired when I finish watching your vids! Keep up the good work 🤝
Would Reguard liquid membrane serve the same purpose? Thanks for all the videos!
Thanks.
I'm curious why you grouted after putting in the baseboards, and why you painted after putting in the floor?
And the floor is absolutely gorgeous.
This was the last room in house to refinish before putting up on market. Only has 3 days to finish it. Ideally walls would be painted before floor 😊
Looks really good, but I think I would wait to put up the white baseboard until I was done using the black grout.
Can I use steam mop to clean slate floor?

also, do you always use an uncoupling membrane when tiling a floor? can you tile directly on plywood sometimes?

What’s size grout line 1/4 ?
No waterproofing membrane?

Where is the video of you pre sealing the slate?
Boy are you handsome 😍
Why not just use harder backer isn’t it faster

Definitely better idea, I was pressed for time on this one
@@marcopoulin1897 no shit
That membrane looks terrible compared to the real Schluter Ditra
So soft though 😆
It does look soft. I was hoping you actually have the video of you pre-sealing the Tiles?@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher
