I would go and see a doctor and get an MRI done so they can see how bad it is.

@@ArunsTravels I already did. And doctor said u can recover it from doing some exercise. And 2nd option is opration. My shoulder never dislocated.

In that case you probably don’t need surgery. I had 10 full dislocations so my shoulder was a mess. You need to build up all of the muscles around your shoulder to help stabilise it. Press-ups, Lots of exercise with resistance bands (external rotation/internal rotation/moving arm up and away from body.) I’m going away for two weeks but when I’m back I’ll do another video and put all the exercises in. If you subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon it will notify you when I’ve done the video.

I'm 4 weeks post-op and I can barely move it feels like it's slipping out very painful at times. I've gone to a few therapy sessions where they move it for me it's extremely painful

Are you due to have a follow up appointment with your consultant/surgeon? Might be worth speaking to them to check that this is normal? Mine wasn’t like that at all but maybe your injury was much worse than mine. I did do a lot of pre-op strengthening work and I know that helped with my recovery.

Hi I am getting the surgery and have been told different things by 2 different surgeons. The one said after the surgery I would have to keep it in the sling for 6 weeks then start physical therapy. The other said I have to do physical therapy only a couple days after. Don’t you have to wait 6 weeks for the labrum to heal? Not moving it at all?

Hi Nick, if you look at my playlist you’ll see videos from the start and the exercises they had me doing from day 1. Honestly, it’s really easy basic stuff and shouldn’t harm the labrum. If you didn’t move your shoulder for 6 weeks I’d have thought the muscles would really wither away and the shoulder would cease up. To be honest, after a few weeks I’d sometimes take my sling off for short periods of time just to get a little movement. I definitely felt the sling could have come off sooner than 6 weeks and was pretty frustrated by it. Different Doctors may have different opinions and every patient will be slightly different. I have made a complete recovery though and my shoulder has got through two Ironman races will no problems.

Hello. I’m getting this surgery for the 2nd time soon. But I was curious if you do any weightlifting, and if so how long you had to wait after the surgery to get to that. Also wondering how many times you popped it out before you had the surgery?

    • @ArunsTravels
      @ArunsTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey, thanks for getting in touch. Before surgery I’d had 10 full dislocations that all required going to hospital to get it back in (last one was pretty horrific requiring 3 attempts!) Yes I do lift weights and started at about 10 weeks I think (but not too heavy and only certain exercises.) At about 12 weeks I was able to start lifting heavier and doing more different exercises. If you watch my latest video, I show some advanced exercises that I do now with resistance bands to specifically help stabilise the shoulder (if you look at my playlist it will shoe all videos I’ve done about my shoulder surgery and recovery.) How many times did you dislocate yours and did the first surgery make it feel better? When is your next surgery happening?

Arun’s Travels I had 7 dislocations before my first surgery (16 years old). It was always weaker then my good side, but since I started lifting weights after my surgery it wasn’t too much worse. It was good for 4 years until last March when I fell off a bridge (Sounds worse then it was, I like to climb when I drink haha) and it popped out again. Since then it’s been stable but sore and weak, and I’m always worried about it coming out again. So I’m getting the surgery again in May, but I’m worried about taking so much time off the gym. Plus I go to lots of music festivals and concerts over the summer, including one at around 9 weeks after my surgery , so Healing fast is definitely my priority.

Side note, I’m actually traveling through SE asia right now as well. Been to Phils, in Vietnam right now, then going all over as well.

So my consultant & Physio both said my lack of pain and quick recovery was probably helped by all the pre- surgery work I did with therabands etc. Check out my latest video on rotator cuff exercises. Rotator cuff muscles are a group of 4 small muscles that stabilise your shoulder (and will help with other lifts as well.) These have really helped me I try to do these several times per week. The ones pulling to your face/away might not be good if your shoulder is very unstable (don’t think I could have done those ones before surgery as that position was very unstable for me.)

Awesome! We’ve been to Thailand several times, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines and spending 3 weeks in Indonesia next Christmas. Love SE Asia!

Please let me know if you have had this or similar surgery and how you got on. Please also comment if you are due to have surgery or are thinking about it, thanks.

Jan otto fantastic! Were you able to get back to everything that you wanted to do? I’m now just under 6 weeks and have just started driving again, will run for the first time tomorrow and have started doing theraband exercises so feel like progress is pretty good but just hope I can do everything I want to do!

@@ArunsTravels Not everything but I'd say for about 85-90%. My shoulder was pretty messed up before the surgery so yeah. Keep in mind that your shoulder will never be te same as before. But other than that, I would advise you to look for a good physiotherapist. A good PT can make the biggest difference in your recovery. And if you feel like you can do a certain motion/exercise with your shoulder but the doctor doesn't recommend doing it. Do it anyways. Might sound like a stupid advice but trust me. Most docs follow the guide lines as much as possible. Some people can regain their ROM quicker than other people. And most PT will advice you to move your shoulder as much as you can handle.

Jan otto thanks. My shoulder was pretty messed up too, been to hospital 10 times to have it put back in after dislocations. I’ve got a great physio who is also a triathlete (my sport) so she’s keen to get me back as soon as safe to do so. I’m going for my first run today (6 weeks since surgery) and will attempt my first gentle swim this weekend (just breaststroke.) I’ve been told not to attempt front crawl/freestyle for another 6 weeks as it puts the shoulder in a very vulnerable position (my last dislocation happened whilst swimming front crawl which was pretty horrible.) Also got lots of new resistance band exercises to do now.

@@ArunsTravels Good ! And isn't it too early to go swimming ? If I remember correctly, I was allowed to leave my sling after 5-6 weeks. I would wait to go swimming after like 2-3 months tbh. You're not supposed to do all kind of sports and see which you can handle at this time period.

These were exercises prescribed to me by my consultant surgeon and done at the time he told me to do them. He has years of experience of performing the surgery & rehab on hundreds of people (including many professional sports people.) The exercises gave me no pain, I made a full recovery and have since done two Ironman races.
