- www.timothyseam... An informal video of Timothy Seaman playing a favorite medley from his album Sycamore Rapids, at the Colonial Williamsburg Visitors' Center. The arrangement is dedicated to Sky Meadows State Park in Northern Virginia, where many wonderful groves of trees can be strolled through. The fourth tune, 'Walnut Grove', is an original composition by Timothy, (c) 2002. The instrument is a Dusty Strings hammered dulcimer, model D600, made in 1999, and the artist switches between the wood and suede sides of the hammers.
When I hear the dulcimer played I think of my sweet cousin Elaine who fell in loved with the Smokey Mountains and the culture of its people. So much so that she brought a dulcimer and learned. to play it. She died many years ago. If there is a heaven I'm sure she's up there playing the dulcimer. I miss you Elaine.
This particular instrument has an amazing sound. Hammered dulcimers are as different as pianos. I don't think angels play harps in heaven. I think they play hammerd dulcimers and you Mr Seaman are a master. Thank You.

There are many folk instruments, but the hammered dulcimer is definitely the pinnacle of folk music in my mind. The range it can have, as well as the ease of playing (in the sense that it's essentially a piano, whose note are organized by what key you're playing in), makes it more intuitive than some, and more capable than others.

I adore Timothy Seaman and his beautiful music !!! I discovered him and his music during a visit to Colonial Williamsburg last Christmas and have been hooked ever since ! He is the nicest, loveliest man you'd ever want to meet - a true gem and an amazing talent ! I have almost all of his CD's and listen to them daily . They bring me such peace and joy ! He and his music are just the best !!!

Though not "rare", they're unusual in the West. They're basicaly a miniature Grand Piano (brilliant tuning excentricities aside) and stunningly loud if you've never stood next to one.
40 years since I did last... sad now. :(

As the text says, it was in the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center here in Virginia.
A lot of Pennsylvanians like to come to Colonial Williamsburg to tour the historic town.
