Yup. Also, there’s a difference between Old Money and New Money. Old Money doesn’t need to brag about anything AND it knows how not to waste money on things. New Money wants to show off to try to impress people who usually don’t care.

I used to work in the Trust Dept. for a major bank. Our clients were the ultra rich; I mean Robber Baron, generational wealthy and if you met them on the street you wouldn’t be able to tell that they were rich. One of them told me that they don’t waste their $ on frivolous things. If the did, they would quickly lose the wealth they inherited.

I don't get why people like Laurie exist who care so much about designer stuff. 90% of the population doesn't even notice, and you generally don't want the attention of those who would care anyway. It's also often very easy to achieve exactly the same looks with less expensive items to the point that the only way even a trained expert would know the difference is if they were examining what you had from six inches away or closer, and really, who's going to do that?

    • @Loupa57

I'rather wear something that isn't brand name. The same like bags and stuff. That way I dont have to think about watching it carefully. I can throw my bag the way I want and dont have to think will I da age it. Also that worths for the clothes too. Why would I want to throw money just because someone's famous name on the item? But there are people who think that they are better if they buy those stuff even if they have nothing to eat.
I gave my Coco Chanel purse to my friend. It was a small bag and I cant put almoust anything in it. She gave me the bigger one.

Here in my neighboorhood is there also a walking copy of Laurie. She is always looking if someone wears brand items. Most of times she looks at it after fitness or so. And then she badmouting the people where did they do it from bla bla bla.
I am a vitage lover and when I see something cool in the shop I try it and most of times I buy it.
But I,m not even looking at the label yeah the washing label😂
She looked my winterjacket online because she found out the Jacket was from KC.
I said yeah cool huh buyed it at the vintage shop here for 4 euro🤪

  • @ImNotaRussianBot
    @ImNotaRussianBot ปีที่แล้ว +17

Never got the appeal of extreme luxury or designer objects. Like, now you've got yourself a headache. All food, drink, and motions must be fussed over. Then some of them should be insured. Then there are safety considerations. What about kidnapping? You've made yourself a target for scumbags.
It's all just a damn headache. I would love to be rich, but I would drive a Toyota and live in a modest house that I would gut and make it luxurious inside.
The one thing I would splurge on is services- pawncare, cleaner, laundry, etc. Pay well and appreciate those folks.
But I don't like the flashy, blingey things. They seem like 1) narcissist's calling card or 2)deep insecurity + maintaining appearances (moat of the time both).

Divorce is a a bit overkill, especially when Laurie’s husband isn’t an angel (Laurie is too shallow and her husband isn’t honest with her) They should at least try marriage counseling before considering divorce. Now the sole custody thing is beyond overkill. Laurie has her flaws as a person but as a mother, she’s not neglectful or abusive and is very involved with her kids’ lives. It was cruel of her husband to take full custody. They should have gone for split custody.

Whatever else Laurie is, she isn't upper class. More like nouveau riche. Genuine upper class generally wear classic clothing that never goes out of style and may well be 40 years old. Often the same can be said for their accessories - I've known a few over the decades and you'd never know to look at them who they were - which will be well made, genuine and often years old. I've also known more than a few nouveau riche and they are just like Laurie, always wearing brand name clothing, buying the latest fashionable accessories including vehicles and boasting about their holidays in this resort or that continent.

I mean, I have a BAG for men too, but I first looked at the good leather quality, and that it has the proper functions I want it to have. But to use this plunder as ego-prosthetic? How pathetic could I be? NO! NONONO! Never! My bag looks good, costed under 500USD, and does its job! Anyway, I don´t use it on a daily basis, so what? It´s a nice gadget, but not more. And if I need more space, I have my second bag, made out of a combination of Canvas and vegan leather. Khaki coloured as to be different to my smaller bag made out of black leather. AND: NONE of all my two other friends (or men I know) have really a bhag for themselves. So I could not start a fight about "who has the best bag" at all. Or, that said, it would make me look really look ridiculous and pathetic lol...I don´t want to be called "the queen of bags" anyway...lol (Just to bring in Queen Elisabeth's (may she rest in peace) famous Handbag to the story).

but with holidays? you see buildings at sightseeing tours etc, but what else?
worst thing in salzburg: the sound of music isn't a thing here. and the story makes no sense geographically wise (they fled north... and germany is north).
    but who cares.

living paycheck to paycheck regardless of status is still living paycheck to paycheck. The truly rich people who have residual income and can continue to live without a paycheck. I have notice that some people who "show they are rich" like buying expensive stuff and display are still poor because of one event (losing job) or something can totally break a person.

Stupid story...what husband would agree with his wife clean the house of his snobbish employee's wife. Funny about the bags though...
