- I think the new Nike Mercurial line up is great, but some big name Nike endorsed pros don't seem to agree with me! Players like Hazard, Isco, Modric, along with a few others, refuse to wear the new Mercurial Vapor 12 or Superfly 6! Do they hate the new Mercurials? Why won't they wear them? Here's my theory on what's going on. What do you think about this situation?

Just to clarify on the alleged "traction issues" of the new Mercurials, yes, some players have slipped in them, just the same as players who have slipped in the old Mercurials and any other boots! Sometimes you slip, it happens no matter what you have on your feet. The stud pattern is exactly the same as the previous Mercurials. Also, plenty of players who are consistently wearing the new Mercurials are not slipping at all. If the traction was that big of an issue, which it's not, wouldn't everyone be slipping?
I think modric and hazard just don’t like the split sole design even though it’s the same. Just think about it. The flyknit ultra and very vapor 12 are basically almost the same but the split sole is unique on the vapor 12 . So it’s unusual for them to like the ultra but not the vapor. It also could be the speed rib texture but there is also texture on the vapor 12. I blame the split sole even though it is basically the same as the vapor 11. Thoughts?

Garments Plug having had both and broken in and worn both for quite a while, I have to agree and say that the vapor 12 has substantially more room in the TOE box and feel longer even tho theyre the same size 🤔

Hazard has been wearing the Vapor 12s in matches. Pedro hasn't been wearing the new Vapors at all. HAzard has been wearing Vapor 11s in training but he has been wearing the new Vapors in matches.

They should have split the superfly and the vapor into 2 seperate silos. Just have a low and mid cut superfly (which is what they have) and a completely different synthetic boot for the vapor.

If they get custom pair with the same texture of the Vapor 11 then what would be the point of releasing the vapor 12 in the first place?! That’s just giving more marketing for the old model rather than the new one
That's the case with a lot of boots that pros wear. What's made available to the public and what pros wear are two completely different products, at least when you're talking about certain big name pros. This has been the case with Messi and his signature line for years now, and he's not the only one. Ultimately all of these brands produce products to make money, and they do that by selling to the public. The pros get involved as a way of advertising these new products because of their influence, which is why they're paid to wear certain brands, some even certain models. The vast majority of people don't know what the reality of the situation is though.

That's Nike's call. They only sent out the Otange ones to pros. Orange stands out way more.
I had the vapor 11s, flyknjt ultra and now vapor 12 elite. The vapor 12s I definitely like the most. They gave me pretty nuts blisters and were stiff out of the box, but they seem softer every day I use them and am really enjoying them. Those big names probably haven’t fully broken in theirs and are overthinking it since there all in critical parts of their seasons.
Would you think some of these pros will go down to the pro variation takedown?
Thanks for this video. I have the same feeling of choosing the superfly pro rather than superfly elite just because of the full flyknit upper that makes me feeling so tight. It pushes my socks up when I hardly wear them on. The take down model pro would be the first choice in my opinion.

Modric has always taken a while to move on to the next gen from the previous one, even when he wore the Flyknit ultra he only wore it for one half

Me personally I loved and still rock the superfly 5 even though I tried the superfly 6.
The fly wires or whatever they are using makes lacing up the boots very tight hold my slim feet very closely to the point of no movement what so ever.
I loved that about the hypervenom 2.
I wished if they continued the superfly tradition.
Honestly I don't know why they call it the superfly anymore.
Vapor DF would have done the job.

Even nike's running shoes that include fly wires are responsive and a joy to wear.

I have worn both the Superfly 4s, 5s and the vapor 10s. I've always preferred the flyknit compared to the teijin synthetic. That's why I'm fine with the new Vapor 360 (I truly love them). Maybe Nike might make custom pairs for these players but may suggest them to get used to the new Vapors in the long run.

I think that the horizontal cuts in the vapor 11 and flying ultra offered more grip on the ball and hazard, Isco and modric like and got used to the grip on the old mercurial and don’t like the vertical lines on the new flynknit because it has no additional effect .
The Flyknity Ultra for sure offered more grip on the ball, but that's because they had a grip elements across the texturing. The grip on the ball of the Vapor 11 and 12 I'd say is about the same.

I think I know why. It’s because the cleats don’t match their kits. So they are all wearing color ways that match their teams. Gotta look good to play good
I feel like modric has historically stuck with the older models for a while before transitioning to the new generation. I remember him wearing the vapor 9s and 10s for a while even after the new gens released

I think they are very nice boots and very high quality just different and I really wish that people would stop hating on them because of some slips..
I would not be surprised if they give them Vapor 11’s that look like 12’s. A lot of sports do this, especially in tennis. The racquet you can buy that a pro uses is 99% not the one the pro is using. The pros usually have a custom racquet that may be actually an older racquet. We saw this during the Agassi and Sampres era, we are seeing it now with the William sisters, feeder, djovick, and other pros. It’s a great marketing tool as it looks like they’re winning matches with the new gear but really aren’t, and helps to drive sales of the new gear and the players adapt accepting its their own lack of skill why they are not performing like the pros or how they did in their older gear. Sometimes renovations is the best innovation.
Isco has been training with new blacked out shoes? Maybe the prototype of the next magista? I don't know if he will actually be playing in them but he was testing them out..

Isco wore Hypervenom as well. However, Josh, do you think the flyknit delivers less protection in comparison to the teijin upper ? If yes, I think this is one of the reasons they switched back to the old Vapor.
I'd say that the new Vapors with a Flyknit upper are more protective than the Vapor 11 were. Not that either of them really provide much protection at all. If protection is a priority for you, you simply shouldn't wear Mercurials.

Isco used to wear the Hypervenom Phantom I from 2013 to 2014 I think so he hasn't always played in Mercurials. :) Nothing really important, just thought I'd point that out
You're right, he had a stint in Hypervenoms as well, but wore Mercurial Vapors before that. He pulled out a pair of Vapor 9s for a few games about a year ago if I'm not mistaken.

The new Vapors also weigh around 20 grams more. That and the fact that I believe the old Teijin upper provides a better touch on the ball makes it seem to me to be the reason why the likes of Modric, Isco and Hazard, whom are all masters of ball controll and dribbling in tight spaces to prefer the old ones. Can you please reply to this as I'm wondering if the Teijin part is true and whether or not 20 grams does make a difference.
You can't feel 20 grams on your feet. The weight difference isn't noticeable at all.

I honestly think it's just because Nike peaked with the vapor 11, the superfly has improved but the vapor hasn't, it feels as though the only reason they updated the boots was to maintain a quota of updating their boots over a certain time span
My Opinion not true at all, there is always room for improvement as technology advances, however I think they should have stuck to synthetic with the vapor

My Opinion I bought the vapor 12 as my vapor 11s were pretty worn out and I'm really enjoying them, the only thing I would say is that the fit is longer and wider which I don't really like tbh
That's an opinion, but I don't necessarily think that's true based on my own experience. I think it's hard to say that with every new model, from any line, that the latest version is always better than the last, because that's not always the case. This is a case of both the Vapor 11 and 12 being good in they're own way, they're just different, which means that some will like the new ones and some will prefer the old. I think the Vapor 8, 9 and 10 are all great boots as well, just as good as the ones that came after them.

Turf is a more shallow surface, generally like a rough carpet. Artificial grass is deeper with plastic blades of grass and rubber pellets scattered throughout.

No, because no boots are meant to restrict movement of the ankle. Fit has a lot to do with stability. If your boots are too big, don't fit well or aren't well secured on your feet, that can result in instability.

I have a pair of the legend VII turf and was looking to purchase another pair. between the elite hypervenom, obra, and mercurial turf, which of these three would you recommend? I do prefer the padded sensation of leather but am really curious about the new mercurials.
None of them will feel like leather. The Magistas will have the most dampened touch because of the texturing of the upper, but the new Mercurial is really good as well. Just depends on what you want to try I suppose.
