    Lyrics
    With our nets and gear we're faring
    On the wild and wasteful ocean
    It's out there on the deep
    We harvest and reap our bread
    As we hunt the bonny shoals of herring
    Oh it was a fine and a pleasant day
    Out of Yarmouth harbour I was faring
    As a cabin boy on a sailing logger
    We were following the shoals of herring
    Now you're up on deck, you're a fisherman
    You can swear and show a manly bearing
    Take your turn on watch with the other fellows
    As you're hunting for the shoals of herring
    Now we fished the Swarth and the Broken Bank
    I was cook and I'd a quarter-sharing
    And I used to sleep standing on me feet
    As we hunted for the shoals of herring
    We left the home grounds in the month of June
    And for canny Shiels we soon were bearing
    With a hundred cran of the silver darlings
    That we've taken from the shoals of herring
    In the stormy seas and the living gales
    Just to earn your daily bread you're faring
    From the Dover Straits to the Faroe Islands
    And you're hunting for the shoals of herring
    Well I earned me keep and I paid me way
    And I earned the gear that I was wearing
    Sailed a million miles, caught ten million fishes
    We were hunting after shoals of herring
    You're net float men now boy you're on the move
    And you're learning all about sea-faring
    That's your education, scraps of navigation
    As you hunt the bonny shoals of herring
    Night and day the seas were daring
    Come wind or tide or winter gale
    Sweating or cold, growing up,
    Growing old or dying
    As you hunt the bonny shoals of herring

    Luke Kelly had one of the greatest male voices in the history of recorded music. Just an incredibly powerful, versatile singer.

That makes him immortual and one of the greatest singers of the history. Although I cannot understand all of it, I listen to his songs every day and makes me melancholy

    Luke Kelly's soul is so strong that shines over us. My catalan translation of his song, with love.
    Els Bells Bancs d'Arengades.
    Amb xarxes i aparells érem
    en l’esquerp i feréstec oceà,
    és allà, ben endins on trobem i collim el pa,
    tot pescant les belles arengades.
    Era un formós jorn i també plaent
    Yarmouth enllà jo anava fent,
    grumet n’era en un veler de pesca.
    Seguíem els bells bancs d’arengades.
    A coberta ja ets un pescador:
    pots jurar i has d’aguantar ferm.
    Pren torn per l’aguait junt amb els companys
    tot encalçant els bancs d’arengades.
    Ara fèiem Swarth i el Broken Bank;
    feia de cuiner i em tocava un quart
    i era ben sovint que dormia dret
    mentre atrapàvem bancs d’arengades.
    Vam deixar la llar en el mes de Juny
    i a Canny Shields ara ja ens trobàvem,
    amb cent coves plens de peixos d’argent
    que havíem fet aplegant arengades.
    Amb forts temporals i mars abrivats,
    per a guanyar el pa és que ara lluitem,
    des de Dover Straits a les illes Faroe;
    anem empaitant les arengades.
    Em vaig guanyar el plat i també el camí
    i l’equip de feina que vestia;
    milles navegant i mil.lions de peixos;
    tot seguint els bancs d’arengades.
    Mosso de corda ets, sempre en moviment,
    aprens un munt sobre navegació;
    són serrells d’ofici en tasques a mar,
    tot caçant bells bancs d’arengades.
    Dia i nit el mar és repte.
    Amb calma, vent o forts vents d’hivern;
    fred o suor, creixent, envellint, morint…
    tot caçant bells bancs d’arengades.

    My favorite part of icelandic lyrics to this song
    Lagst var miðin á landið allt um kring:
    undir Jökli, útaf Gerpi og Skaga.
    Oft var dreginn þá afli býsna vænn á
    kútter Sigurfara forðum daga.
    Gegnum veðrafár, gegnum manndrápssjó
    alltaf slapp hann, - það var segin saga.
    Ekkert vissu menn annað eins happa skip og
    kútter Sigurfara forðum daga.

      The land was targeted all around:
      under Jökli, out of Gerpi and Skaga.
      Often the force was pulled quite nicely
      cutter Sigurfara of old days.
      Through storms, through murderous seas
      he always escaped, - that was the story.
      People didn't know anything else like an unlucky ship
      cutter Sigurfara of old days.
