    Doing a deep dive on your previous videos. I've managed to find one of these, but an updated version with a micro SD slot. Looking forward to giving it a go and trying out some 2600 ROMs on it.

    It’s weird to think that Blaze, the company that made this junk, later went on to created the Evercade. Sometimes you never know what companies will suddenly turn it around, and start making products of actual quality!

    I was given one of these for my birthday just a few days ago. I do like the unit, but I'd rather play Atari Vault on my PC because the sound emulation is far better than on this retro handheld console, I find the sound emulation on this device to be quite questionable. I do like it though and I enjoy playing on it. I only wish it had HDMI rather than composite video output.

  • @marklechman2225
    @marklechman2225 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To me, the sound seems a tiny bit higher pitched than I'm used to with the NTSC versions, rather than lower. But it could just be how it sounds through your camera mic.

    Bad that we don't have the atari 2600 hardware clones (atari on a chip) science Atari Flashback 2 from 2005. Emulation devices has a bugs/input lug etc.
    I think my clone gcw zero - playgo v2 (anouther names - pocket go 2/powkiddy q80/miyo max) has the same or better performance in Atari games and able to ad new games, like gb/gbc/lynx/gba/nes/md/ms/pce/7800/snes/ps1 games too.
    And have 3.5 Inch ips dspl vs 2.4 at this console. And cost 50$

    No difficulty switches or B&W/color? That would hinder or even prevent playing some games. Too bad because, as your face showed, it's a gorgeous unit haha.

    Just reviewed one of these myself! Your screen seems considerably better than the one I got hold of. The viewing angle on mine was so bad I went as far as getting a backup unit for testing, which was just as bad if not worse! I think you might have got hold of the only one of these in the world with a screen that isn't rubbish!

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GenXGrownUp yeah it'd be a great little unit if we could load roms as well or home brew, i wonder if thr current ones are just from a bad production run or use cheaper screens then.

  • @JoKoKilla
    @JoKoKilla 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for this video. I was going to purchase one for myself, but everyone complains about the sound. They came out with another version of the Atari Blaze with an SD card. Did you review it? I wonder how you'd rate that one considering its rom expandability.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm happy that you enjoyed the video and found it useful. I never picked up the v2 of this one, but I understand it's more of the same, but as you noted, expandable. I can only imagine it would rate higher. Thanks for watching!

      @@GenXGrownUp Sounds like its a choice between lesser of two evils. Do I settle on poor sound, or do I settle on a few glitchy roms? If you had to choose only one, between the Flashback, or the Blaze (with the SD card slot), which one would it be? Or should I just stay content playing emulated Atari games on my DS lite?

      Is that right? I wasn't aware there was a new version. How can you differentiate the old from new when ordering?

    • @Graytail
      @Graytail 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GenXGrownUp The one with an SD slot boasts 60 games on the box. I got one myself last week, but there is an issue with the machine. You mention the whole PAL/NTSC thing, but it goes beyond that. I have an original VCS and Crystal Castles, so its in PAL since I'm in the UK. The audio in crystal castles on this console is WAY off pitch. Its NOT how it sounds in europe, believe me.
      I do not reccomend getting one of these things, really. I tried the included PACMAN rom, and it has horrible input lag. Adventure? the audio was at least a half a second behind what was going on in the game, so maybe a bit worse than your model.
      As for downloaded roms.. very unpredictable. Some of the roms, I tried both PAL and NTSC versions, actually make the screen roll like an old tv with the V-hold way out. Others, the music might run at 400% speed, like the DigDug rom I got.
      Strangely, the 7800 roms included run really well. Didnt run Ballblazer though.
      When putting roms onto your SD card, if you do get one of them, you need to drop the rom ZIP files into the root directory. Since the card has to be FAT32, this will limit the number of roms you can put on there.
      Multi-cart roms dont seem to work either, I presume these required you to flick a difficulty switch to select a game since start and select both just rest the rom.
      Oh yeah... theres no way to play Ghostbusters on this console, as you definatly need the difficulty switches for that one.

      @@GenXGrownUp Yeah, much as I cant believe I'm saying this, that atg@mes one you have is probbably better. Unless you like how the atg@mes genesis consoles handle sound... which this thing really reminds me of =p
      It might be worth getting a really cheap one second hand at some point though, you never know when some spare buttons or a faceplate will come in handy. Or that screwless battery cover. I hate screw down covers, but it does make them hard to lose ^_^'

      Honestly, that's preferred to me. I mean, yeah, having to get batteries all the time is a pain, but there will always be disposable batteries. If it was lithium ion, there'd be no guarantee that you'd find a replacement if it died.
