How to Know Your Purpose by Shane Wall
Have you ever been confused about your purpose? Have you ever wanted to know why God created you and what you’re here to do.
One specific way that we can know our purpose is through the testimonies of others. What is it that people say about you quite often? What is it that people always compliment you about? Maybe it's about your singing, maybe it's a particular style that you have when you teach. It could even be the way you encourage everybody. And it is so easy to you, it's like, not even second-hand but first-hand nature to you. That helps you to know your calling in the earth. Even if that's not your main calling, it will help you get understanding concerning your purpose in the earth: why you're in the earth and why you're called. What are you here to do? Listen to what people say and get all the good that you can out of their words.
Now, I understand that we don't get compliments all the time. It's not that everybody is so cruel, but a lot of times we complement inside. We'll say to ourselves, "that young lady there she's going places," or "her smile always lightens my day." But many times because of how people think, we say, I don't want to say anything, I don't want her thinking 'this' or I don't want him thinking 'that.' So a lot of times we are, I'd even say, cheated, from compliments, which would have helped us mold our character.
I'll say this, even some criticisms will help you understand who you are, or rather who you are not. For example, there are people who just know that they are supposed to be singers but they can't sing and they've been trying it for years. And for some reason, no one is telling them the truth. And maybe if they get one or two people to tell them the truth, they get offended. They say, "I don't care what you have to say." "I know this is what God has for me!"
I'll tell you what I do. I listen to the criticisms as well. Because you just never know when God is speaking until it is revealed to you. So, when people criticize me, I like to listen to it. I don't take everything in. Never take everything in, but listen to what people say, positive and negative. And God's purpose and God's will for your life can be shaped and molded by the testimonies that we receive from people.
As I said, I do understand you won't always hear from everybody, but the beautiful thing is those that you want to really speak into your life, ask them. "What is it about me that sets me apart from everybody?" You may be shocked to hear it. Let God reveal His will concerning your life through those that you know really love you, and even those who don't love you! Sometimes, your enemy can speak a word of wisdom that you can take and pray about. We are to pray about everything. Let the Holy Spirit let you know what the real deal is and that will help shape and mold who you are in God. You will begin to know your purpose because you have heard the testimonies of others concerning your life.
