I'm very impressed with the honesty and transparency of the devs. Most game devs would avoid talking about the lack of splitscreen support entirely and let it become apparent when the game releases so that they can capitalize on pre-order sales.
The DBZ devs not only admitted that split screen won't be a major feature, they explained exactly WHY they chose not to do so and they actually put in the effort to make split screen work to a degree even though it wasn't convenient considering the reasons given.

Tbh it’s lazy. There’s no reason why they can’t have split screen in the other stages. What’s the difference? It’s not like it takes extra CPU to do it. Also them thinking on single player and multiplayer in mind was not smart anyways because there last games all had couch co-op. They knew they were going to have backlash and they wanted to test the waters.

The weather changing, destructible environments, and stage transformations would make split screen extremely intensive on any CPU. I’m thankful they even implemented it given the scope of the game.

Yes, but at least they should've implemented changing arenas, having Horizontal Split screen type (Hope it has) and Multiplayer without Split screen as well (1-4 players) style just like WWE/Fifa.
@@msa_ytb More than 2 players wouldn't work with the Tenkaichi system. Only way is if they allow you to swap in and out (like you could with teammates in Tenkaichi 3) and then allow the other teammates to be other human players. To be honest, now that I'm thinking about it, that would be pretty hype!

For all those feeling confused about split screen, my understanding is the following:
Environment doesn't have to render twice. 3d games render the space and with two players there are two cameras . Double inputs are not a problem cause online multiplayer sends the input and you machine replicates them . Both local and online have double the inputs and both are easier than handling an AI algorithm. The only problem is draw distance. When an ai charges ki from far away the detail you see is limited cause the effect is far away, but when you have two cameras a lot more things are considered "close " and have to be rendered in greater detail. This is the only thing that strains the system
This is almost completely incorrect. You do basically have to render the scene twice for splitscreen. Each camera means you need to render the scene again.
Seems you can still do local battles in most stages, it'll just be like Xenoverse where P2 is just further away from the camera
Well it's always possible to eventually come up with other stages with locked in areas. Besides the hyperbolic time chamber, it should be fine to do the tenkaichi tournament stage and just take away heavy environmental destruction. Heck could likely do the same for Kami's lookout or Roshi's island

They were probably told to focus on the online mode. Game companies heads don’t understand that friends will buy the same game even if the play it on the same couch. It was probably a way to sell as many games as possible.

I hope local multiplayer can be improved over time. Perhaps reducing the effects on other existing scenarios or creating new exclusive scenarios for local multiplayer
If turning off the effects for multiplayer worked, as crude a solution as it is, I'd still be really happy, honestly.
The visuals are GORGEOUS, don't get me wrong, but losing them is a small price to pay in order to play this thing with my loved ones.

I really hope in future updates they make more stages for the split screen, i grow up fighting vs my brother in Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and this is the reason why we were excited for the game.
Yeah I think they should add like a nerfed version of the world tournament stage without the destruction. Perhaps other tournament stages that are free of any destructible objects and constructs could be worked into a list of stages for that mode specifically.

@@blooockiBased on the video, it was more of a technical limitation because they wanted dynamic battles with a focus on the experience, but they at least made it possible even if it’s only one stage. It doesn’t seem like they didn’t want to include it, and they listened and did what they could without diminishing the quality of the game. But to be honest, a lot of people don’t seem to do local play anymore anyway, so it’s hardly a priority for most developers.
Creating custom stories and being able to upload them so that others can enjoy them as well is HUGE for the community and the longevity of the game 🎉

I would happily accept a drop in the overall quality of the effects for the sake of local multiplayer in any map. I consider the gameplay to be more relevant than the graphics in this case, and it's not like anime games are extremely demanding in this regard.

@@TravissMcCoyI'm sure they will update it eventually for all stages. Keep in mind this was a short term change just to listen to fans. Initially they weren't going to do it. Given more time I'm sure they'll change it
i hope they give us at least some more simpler maps down the line and maybe decide to tank some of the settings to get a better performance for local play.

Will probably work for PC but consoles will have no luck there. I also think it's because of consoles and having to render things for both split screens is the issue. Some pcs might even struggle with that.
@@chazo1367 literary this. It was obvious why they said that it would be possible only in the chamber. And more so when he said that you can only choose one character at a time, so they probably developed the game around online multiplayer only, then after all the people asking, they added that really quickly.
But this is not the PS2 era, where maybe a Platinum Edition had some small changes, they can always update the game to fix that, or do some optimizations so consoles can get split screen as well. Even when I used to play with my friends I loved fighting and destroying the building in that map. Destroying the mountains with your friends was really cool.

@@juanjosesanchez7828 it does…literally every comment about it talks about it and knows it does. Because the split screen means it’s rendered on two different screens and has to be tracked correctly, which means processing is working overtime.
It would be nice to add split screen to the tournament map (seems like a simple map as well) and have a local tournament mode like in the old days!

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber was probably for the best. A full blank void with a bit of blue purple and yellow spreaded across would be less laggy and taxing. They'd probably took optimisation to account as well
They could always add stages later with future updates though! Its possible since the systems already here!

splitscreen means that the game has to render the same thing twice. that includes all of the fancy particle effects as well as destructable enviroments.
you would basicly play a slideshow during local splitscreen on any more detailed map.
that is the price of modern graphic.
modders could probably allow you to select or simply load into other maps, but the game will very likely run at around 24 fps at that point or at least have huge stutter everytime something flashy happens.
it's just the nature of the beasts. the only way to get it to maybe work is to use dynamic resolution and heavly tank the games settings during local play...at which point people like you would also complain cause you never worked in the industry and don't get game dev.

@@AreteG except with how much faster paced and spastic this one is compared to the older games, I can imagine it'd be difficult to keep track of on a smaller splitscreen anyways. Especially with the addition of particle effects from destructions and supers. It'd just be way harder to keep track off

To make it simple for you I would ask some simple trade off questions.
Which one is more important convivence to carry your gaming machine around, or performance?
If performance is more important get a desktop instead.
if your laptop budget does not go above 2,100 you're better off with a desktop. Most laptops under this price range will have significant limitations running modern games. You might get lucky with something good but I doubt it, but with a desktop for this same price can net you a high end PC and will run through most games like swiss cheese and probably in 4k.

Even if it's super limited I'm INCREDIBLY excited for the split screen. The experience of actually sitting next to someone can't be beat. I know the main focus isn't the multiplayer but that's the biggest reason I will be buying this game
The fact that they even implement it despite not being in their original plan and it being so difficult to do due to graphics and performance issues tells you that the devs really care about their players and listens to them to the best they can which is rare nowadays

Because of the Series S it limits their capabilities if not for that we would probably have all stages in split screen. You can blame Xbox for making such an underpowered next gen console.
Split Screen was a Last Minute change made due to fan demand. They never wanted to implement it and I think what they have come up with is better than not having any local coop at all
That's just how development time works, especially before planning. If they kept it in mind from ground up it probably wouldn't have been an issue

Ding, ding, ding. Nothing is stopping them from reducing the effects (only when split screen) or even map sizes to allow more playable maps for local multiplayer. And if literally all the Naruto games are anything to take note of, online multiplayer will be impossible to enjoy, since input will take 1s at best and the other guy will teleport.
They could have if the game was planned to have split screen from the beginning, but more than likely the execs wanted to do it online only to sell more copies then backpedaled after feedback

If modding is flexible, then PC will absolutely be the definitive way to play split screen multiplayer.
I cancelled my pre order since the most important game modes to everyone as a child were local multiplier and offline world tournament mode with our friends and family. Then story mode to unlock characters.
That was the best part about the game, and they removed it 🤔
The split-screen mode in offline local multiplayer is everything for us, it is the essence of the consoles of our generation, we cannot not have this mode as a priority, I hope it is taken care of before the official launch since it makes us very excited 😪😪

I'm glad that with all our complaining we got them to add splitscreen to the game. Although, they could 100% add it to all stages if they just slighlty optimised or cut the framerate in half. Let's hope modders fix that issue.

I just don’t get the whole explanation for couch coop . Like with the amount of insane things we see games achieve in the current gen, you’re telling me they really couldn’t figure out how to do map effects + split screen work? Like that’s just so disappointing and it feels like a short coming in the dev team. Would programming the same conditions but making weather + destructive environments being turned Off not make it 10000x times easier? Or did they really program destructible environments by themselves as things that can be moved around and not connected to the scenario
fr, it made no sense, like dynamic weather effects and some rocks flying didn't allow to implement split screen, whereas a 2007 game was able to do that, probably hardware limitations come into play

There are supposed reports that execs. from Microsoft and Sony are pushing online play more than local co-op because they want this to be a console seller, plus difficulties with the notorious Xbox Series S (see what happened with Baldur’s Gate 3 being delayed because of that), so it doesn’t seem like the developers’ faults but higher-ups
Its insane to see that these features from far weaker consoles in the 2000s are being limited or removed and yet you’ll get called out by these fans if you dare mention it
@@anqr7193 That’s just kinda wrong my guy. Yeah, they do actively push for more single player/ online games in terms of approval, but there has never been a single ounce of actual information saying they deliberately don’t let it happen.
Hell, SZ even presenting a coop mode already shows Microsoft/Sony didn’t interfere with it. This is 100% the devs not preparing to do it (possibly cause they didn’t consider it by outside influence like you said), but they were obviously not denied to do it. And at this point “we had limitations with the maps and gameplay” is just an inside issue. The HTC seems to be basically a stock image of a white background mostly and players are just interesting with characters. That’s why it works. They essentially allowed up to have “character model control” and added another one .
So yeah, don’t blame Sony/Microsoft, this is a SZ dev’s ball drop

They excuse it will some fancy environment destruction that wasn't available back then, but the truth is there are series that contradict that statement, such as Earth Defense Force - which has insane amount of destruction and enemies happening at the same time, all while being playable in Split Screen.
