    I love that when Nick tells Charlie that he's not ready to do anything more than kissing, it's treated as totally normal. It's refreshing to see teen media not immediately have the teens going to bed together. Encourage young people to take things at their own speeds.

    They dropped a lot of hints about Charlie’s eating disorder this season but even in season one there were hints. You see him refusing food, playing with his food instead of eating it, picking it up and putting it back down without eating any, etc. It was pretty subtle in Season 1 but much more present in season 2 especially in episode 4. It’s definitely something that Season 3 will deal with more, going off the comics material they’ve been sticking pretty close to.

    as someone who has dealt with (and is still dealing with ) an eating disorder, it broke my heart to see Charlie suffering. I suffer from anorexia and I also binge eat. A lot of people think that ppl with anorexia just want to be skinny and lose weight. And others sometimes view binge eating as a fat person. But there is so much that goes into these disorders. Similar to Charlie, I sometimes eat less as a form of control over my body, and when Im dealing with body image issues. I binge eat when I feel super stressed and anxious as a way to cope and calm me down. People need to look out for signs, cuz if no one notices when someone's eating habits change rapidly, it can quickly become a problem and it is so hard to break that habit

      Yeah, while weight loss/gain or being underweight can be a part of an ED, it doesn't have to be. I have spoken with someone who had EDs but because they were overweight it was treated as a good thing that they were restricting themselves so much. And they started losing weight and that was celebrated even. When they tried to get help they were told they weren't underweight so it wasn't a real ED. By medical professionals. The stereotypes do more harm than good.
      I hope you have all the help you need, and I wish you a lot of strength. It's hard, but you deserve to feel good, and feel good about yourself.

      Harry did not look sincere during that "apology " performance.
      (However, in the book "Nick and Charlie" Charlie (as narrator) says that Harry figured out (by Year 13) that homophobia wasn't 'cool.' (Charlie and Nick still thought of Harry as a 'knob" but they would talk to him occasionally.)

      As I recall, in the book, the guys did not use make-up at first, but then someone suggests it.
      There's even a text next to the guys with an arrow that says something like "Didn't think of it."
      (By the time someone thinks of it, several people have noticed it...)
      Two of the girls actually combine their make-up because one has skin lighter than Charlie's and the other girl is darker, so they blend the colors together.

      Lol I feel ya. I haven't gotten that far in the comics, but it seems like Imogen or Sahar might have something that could match him..... However, hickeys and bruises can be hard to cover up, and regular makeup doesn't always do the trick if you don't color correct, or can make it seem more noticeable due to the added texture. He probably should've just put on a turtleneck or scarf tbh, but that would've been perceived as kind of weird as well, since he doesn't normally dress like that, so it's kind of a lose lose either way 🤷😂

    It’s interesting because with Isaac noticing how some people are confused with his response to the kiss with James and other people notice why, because he’s still hard to tell unless you really pay attention and know about it because it’s so subtle, but there have been hints with how Isaac has been acting in this season especially with his glances and his questions and his look afterwards. It’s such an unexplored topic that’s rarely even represented that it’s something that usually isn’t thought about. I don’t mean this as hate at all! I just find it interesting, and I’m glad even though it’s subtle and in the background that they included it in a show like this

  • @mansishukla6779

    These two episodes were really good and had some of the best scenes this season. Nick encouraging Elle to be true to her feelings, Charlie supporting Tao, Isaac trying to understand himself - - not to mention how Nick picked up on Charlie's eating disorder and finally came out on his own terms.
    Your analysis of the broader theme of the show this season was spot on as well. All the characters are growing up and their relationships are evolving - so of course, it's messy and imperfect. Also, it was so cool to see the writers explore Elle's arc as an artist this season and how she was inspired by the paintings in the Louvre.

    Hoping to see a villain reform isn't a bad thing necessarily, I would just like to point out that Ben is an abuser, a gaslighter, and he SA-ed Charlie. I see a lot of people talking about how his internalised homophobia and him being in the closet made him this way. And I would like to say that that might explain and excuse his internal struggles, it does not in any way excuse or explain his actions. Which, to repeat are gaslighting, abusing and SA-ing.
    I don't say this to be angry about people who want Ben to be better, but because I see a lot of comments more or less giving Ben an out, an excuse for his behaviour. Ben's actions are his own and his internal struggles do not explain those actions.
    I think it's important to remember that we don't need to focus on the rehabilitation of an abuser, we can support their victim and completely ignore the abuser for the rest of time.
    Spoilers for the last two episodes:
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Darcy is Ben's foil this season. Both aren't out to their parents and seem to have a bad home life, Darcy is definitely being emotionally abused, Ben is unknown. Ben responds to this by gaslighting, abusing, taking advantage of someone, SA-ing, and Darcy responds by supporting her girlfriend extra hard (and believing she doesn't deserve love, but she doesn't take that out on other people). And while not everyone will be able to be like Darcy in that situation, they're not like Ben either.
    Ben's sh!tty apology makes it clear he is not actually interested in a genuine apology and taking responsibility (or even acknowledging) his terrible actions. He only ever talks about himself, how he felt and how that explains his horrible behaviour, and how he's sad. He's finding excuses.
    He's unlikely to ever face real consequences for his actions, and Charlie will in all likelihood deal with the consequences for his entire life. Ben can suck it.

    • @withxoutxlife
      @withxoutxlife ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not condoning nor excusing Ben's actions in any way, but he is still a teenager that is undoubtedly under a ton of stress similar to Darcy, while also not feeling comfortable in his own friend group. He's completely isolated, and because of his own self hatred, he's turned those negative feelings outward and inflicted serious harm on others, namely Charlie. Even if one doesn't want Ben to have a happily ever after scenario, because he would not deserve it from the damage he's done, I do think redemption in the form of rehabilitation is still something important to consider. Otherwise he's just an abuser that will continue on abusing.

    • @AnnekeOosterink
      @AnnekeOosterink ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @withxoutxlife I'm not saying we need to wish Ben keeps being an abuser. But as an audience we don't have to keep excusing Ben, even you are doing that "but he's still a teenager" yeah, so is his victim. Let's hope that Ben becomes a way way way better person. We can do what Charlie does and never acknowledge him again.

  • @normaladjacent
    @normaladjacent ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think Tara looked unhappy seeing Darcy pour drinks, because what she wanted was for Darcy to be honest about her feelings and why she’d been so cagey, not a loud drunk party with people they barely knew.
    There have been signs of Charlie’s disordered eating throughout both seasons of the show, though it was more subtle in season 1. In season 1 we saw him turn down offers of food from Tori and Nick, pick at his cereal and not eat it, spend lunches alone in the art room not eating, open his lunchbox and stare its contents then set it aside... In season 2, the night Charlie met David he told Nick he’d eat dinner at home, then lied and told his dad he’d already had dinner at Nick’s. In episode 4 we saw Charlie try to turn down ice cream, saying he was too full from breakfast, and Nick called him on the fact he hadn’t actually eaten much breakfast. Then at dinner seated next to Ben we saw him pick at his food and not eat. So he didn’t eat dinner, then skipped breakfast the next morning, then climbed the Eiffel Tower on a very hot day… not surprising he passed out.
    The show has already been renewed for season 3 - it was renewed for s2 and s3 simultaneously last year!

    obviously he still has A LONG VERY LONG way to go, but I feel like Harry might be on a redemption arc. Like am I gonna LOVE Harry, probably not, but i might be cool with him. At least (unlike Ben) Harry had the decency to knock on the door, ask Tara if he could come in and AT THE VERY LEAST, apologized and took responsibility. and the party didn't get shut down by a teacher so he didn't tell on them when they refuse to let him in, even though he could have. idk🤔

    • @AnnekeOosterink
      @AnnekeOosterink ปีที่แล้ว +5

      His apology was still pretty bad, but yeah, Harry seems ignorant more than anything, while Ben abused, gaslighted, and SA-ed Charlie.
      Harry's ignorance is still not an excuse when it comes to his treatment of Charlie and Tao, but if he genuinely learns to do better, and apologises with a real apology his bullying can be forgiven. I feel like, if he continues on the path he's on right now, he may get there.

    • @aaliyahbrown5739
      @aaliyahbrown5739 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@AnnekeOosterink i didnt say that Harry's apology was great, im just saying I feel like he IS trying to make an effort to be better and is being genuine. Like for instance, when Charlie slammed the door in Harry's face, Harry could have gone and told the teachers about the party and (idk if he knew or not) drinking, but he obviously didn't cuz the party didnt get shut down. and he at least asked to come in instead of just barginning in

    The eating disorder is hinted at throughout the series especially during season 2 very very few reactionist have picked up on it
    During the lovue there is actually no one else there except the cast and the man who shouts NO is the director

    • @AnnekeOosterink
      @AnnekeOosterink ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it's the type of thing, that if you know about (either about EDs in general, or about the plot in the books) you see it, otherwise it's very easy to miss.
      Edit: to be fair, when there's eating in a show or film, actors often pretend to eat things (as in stirring around, lifting a fork but not taking a bite etc) because they are filming the same scene for hours, or days sometimes, so the food is often fake, and they can't eat it, or it's been on set under hot lights for hours, so it's probably not super safe to eat, or they have been eating that one bite for hours now, and they're full.
      I know on the show Hannibal, there were buckets next to the table so the actors could spit out the food they had to eat on camera, otherwise they would have eaten several plates full of the same meal.

    Teens drinking generally doesn't immediately lead to things like fines or people being fired or anything. At least, not in my experience. On school trips teachers didn't really mind if students had a party and one drink, but if they got as drunk as Darcy did they might give some kind of punishment. They may or may not notify the parents who would then also be able to punish as they saw fit. Afaik there was one student who got booted off a school trip when I was 15/16 I think. He had gotten drunk, and had caused some damage as well I believe. So he was put on a train back home, his parents were notified of all it so they could pick him up, and that was basically it. At least, I don't know if his parents also punished him, but as far as the teachers were concerned, that was the punishment.
    The teachers are of course responsible in general, but they aren't omnipotent, so they can't prevent everything from happening.
