In Depth: Who appoints Judges?

The question of elevating Justice K M Joseph to the Supreme Court has brought the Centre and the Supreme Court collegium on the path of confrontation.

I have one doubt if any body has 10 years of practice in hc, SC, and he did not argue many cases, but if he has good bonding with political parties with CM, pm, then he can became judge, !??if this is correct then ,judges posting is pure political posting!?
