Everyone's talking about the iPad mini as a consumer tablet, but here's something most people miss - it's actually huge in the business world. Tons of companies use these for basic work stuff like inventory tracking and sales terminals. Apple knows these business customers are their real cash cow for the mini, so they just updated what actually matters for work use - upgrading to the actual lineup. Makes total sense when you think about it - they're giving corporate customers exactly what they need, no extra bells and whistles. Not lazy, just smart business.

You know I remember the “Steve Jobs” era of Apple when the word “no” was not accepted. I remember when they had an emphasis on innovation. When engineers would be yelled at if they said the words “it’s not possible”. Now it seems that under Tim Cook, anything goes. Can’t change something this cycle run? No problem, maybe next year we’ll have better luck. That mindset never flew under Steve Job’s management.

Ipad Mini is the same joke as Iphone SE (sh***T Edition). Apple doesnt care about Entry level (affordable product in their lineup), they just have it because the market require them to do it.
Apple wants to be the Boutique brand of the computer/phone market thus having Entry level products is not a good thing .This is why the Mini and SE are getting the cold sholder treatment.

@@alexmeek610 I would respectfully argue that previously Apple followed market demand. When talking about MP3 players and laptops, look at other manufacturers like Dell and Lenovo. They too have only done minuscule spec bumps without any real upgrades until recently. However, the smartphone market has always been more competitive. I remember Motorola Razrs were all the rage due to their innovative features. iPhone was successful because of their innovative features as well. Same with Samsung. However, ask yourself if the first iPhone was introduced today for the first time, would it still make Apple the #1 smartphone manufacturer?

      @davidpoloskey3225 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

This is revisionist history. Jobs had his share of tiny spec bumps and failures as well. The iPhone 3G literally had identical hardware to the 2G outside of the cellular radio, and suffered for it with an incredibly short support timeline. The first several 13 inch MBPs from 2009-2010 had outdated processors and screens compared to the 15 and 17 inch. Both the 2008 and 2011 MacBook Pros had failing graphics cards that rendered the computer useless without a replacement. Apple got sued, and lost, over the poor quality materials used in the first generation iPod Nano. The first four iPod Touch generations, despite being advertised as having the same quality screens as the iPhone, had dramatically lower viewing angles and severely less saturated colors. They basically used rejected iPhone screens for the iPod Touch.
      And the list goes on…
Jobs was, at the end of the day, the leader of a corporation, and ran it as such.
Anyone who thinks, under Steve Jobs, the $500 iPad Mini would get the same display and chip as the $1000 iPad Pro is delusional.

I bought the M4 iPad Pro because it's thinner and lighter than the iPad Air but it was still too heavy and I returned it. They need to reduce the weight of the iPad Air/Pro by 50% in order for me to consider buying a larger iPad instead of the iPad Mini. If most iPad Mini users are like me, we're not buying the iPad Mini to be a full iPad or computer replacement. We're buying the Mini for simple things. Just hold it in one hand and your wrist will start to hurt after a few minutes. And no, no one NEEDS an M4 on an iPad but the A17 is a slap in the face for iPad Mini users. There should have been an M2 or at least an M1 but instead we're stuck with a phone processor. But you don't buy a device based on what you need right now but what you'll need in a few years. Even an M4 will start to feel slow after 5 years. An A17 will start to feel slow in 2. The iPad Mini should be $250 at these specs.

Exactly, I used to upgrade iPhones every 20-30 months and nowadays, for the first time ever, I will break the cycle. Still noticeable improvement from my last swap in December 2022 from a 12 Pro to a 14 Pro Max, but after watching this year's keynote, I was disappointed by the lack of innovation. Yes de new chip and more RAM are good, but in a phone form factor, the perceptible differences are marginal at most (at least in my case). The same for iPads, I was an early adopter of the original iPad mini since early 2013, then upgraded it to a 4th gen one in late 2016 and the 1st gen Pro (new design) 11" inch model el late 2019, and finally an M2 11" Air a couple of weeks ago since my pro was 5+ years old, had 4GB of RAM and was lagging and slow when pushed + did no have many of the new software features. Sad to say I went to the "inferior" Air model but to be honest, paying the premium for a Pro model only to get 120Hz ProMotion, seemed stupid imho. Apple stopped innovating and today's Airs were yesterday's Pros (aside from screen size / tech). Same goes for MacBook, as a M1 Air 16GB RAM, won't upgrade anytime time soon. Yes chips are better and faster, but the extra performance (for light to moderate users like me) does not justify paying the price to upgrade as often as before.

Apple must earn the *privilege* for you to purchase a new phone and if they haven’t enticed you yet then that’s literally saving you money. BUT it’s Apple’s *responsibility* to make sure that their products are supported for a long time.
Consider the opposite reality. Apple comes out with an amazing feature or upgrade every year that entices you to upgrade your phone, but they only support their phones with software/security updates for 2 years and then leave you high and dry past that. That sounds like a way worse reality to live in to me.

What I see in market segmentation is the people that have small iPhones and a Mac like the iPad mini. They can grab the iPad mini when their phone screen is too small and they want more portability than their MacBook. People with larger phones probably prefer a regular iPad as the screen space between an iPhone Max and iPad mini isn't huge. One other market is women as they fit nicely into hand bags. Honestly, I recommend Apple to wuit advertizing iPad for artists and videographers.
I’m a researcher and planning on buying this iPad mini. Small enough to carry around anywhere, easy to read research papers, can write, can bring to facilities where paper’s arent allowed. (Like paperpile) It is great for presentation as well during conferences.
There aren’t any better tablet than what Apple offers, sadly. But ill take this update
Just advertise this amazing product beyond artists. Seriously, Apple think all jobs in the world are drawing and youtubing

The iPad Mini in it’s current state is a strategic decision. It functions as a slightly worse iPad Air…a middle class tablet on the lower end. Smaller size, lower storage option, worse display. As long as the iPad Air doesn’t get „groundbreaking“ new features like the Pro Motion from 2017, the Mini won‘t get it either. It’s all to seperate the more expensive Pro tablets intentionally from the rest.

I just miss Steve Jobs. Tim Cook has just turned Apple into a bean counting machine trying to make more money.

They are adapting devices for the upcoming Apple AI. The iPad overall holds about 8% of Apple’s total revenue, while the iPad mini barely accounts for 10% of all iPad revenue. So, we’re talking about a market share of barely 1% of Apple users. In the end, after many years, we come to the conclusion that Jobs was right when he didn’t want the iPad mini. The rest is general rambling about the role of the iPad mini, but we could just as easily ramble about the need for the iPad as such when we know that tablets overall occupy less than 2% of the global market.

The biggest fail, IMO is that they're forcing a brand-new pencil on anyone who wants to upgrade. I'll stick to my mini 6 and wait for the mini 8 in about 3 years. Although by then I'd be out of school and probably won't have a need for a mini iPad.
