For my friends to watch and help them learn about one of my typical long jump workouts. Make sure you watch the entire video if you want to see all the details.
After watching the video, this is pretty good and I would recommend this to young starters and even older athletes who do not receive proper instruction. There are many people online putting out videos that are lacking fundamentals. Good job!
Thats what I'm talking about!!! My kids enjoy watching and my youngest (age 7) just took Gold in the Columbus Track and Field Classic 8 and under at Ohio State University jumping 2.89..he'll be over 3 in no time....
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME VIDEO!! Thank you so much for this!! I've been looking for some drills and techniques for my 5 year old who likes long jump, and these are perfect! Again, thank you!
Jeremy, thanks for this excellent video. Tried the entire drill set today and they are all super and that is a good sequence for them. Had my best box jump session in many moons immediately after these drills. Looking forward to any other videos you put together.
Hey Jeremy, I appreciate you giving us all your practice tips, it helped us a lot... I asked you last year if you could do a video about landing. I hope you can find a time and do a video on landing for all your fans. Thank again for sharing all your knowledge. Thanks, Gaston
Please forgive me. I've been procrastinating and your message has motivated me to get this done! I'm out there training people all the time, next week I'm recording. :)
I'm getting back into veterans long jump and this is a great session to get me back in the groove. Just did it for the first time in my back garden. Thanks Jeremy!
@@jeremy1ton Yikes, if you're at 24ft you'll be one of the best veterans in the world. I did just over 22ft at 16. Always enjoyed getting on the track so looking forward to going once everything opens up.
There is a lot of controversy with single leg extensions and curls. But I always did them and it helped. Single leg squats are awesome, and the knee drive machine is my favorite. Hip flexor strength is a must for proper knee drive on long jump. So I would do speed bands on my back and driving my knees all the time too. Like 3 sets of 30 seconds 2 or 3 times a week.
Yes, many things. Jump into a pole vault or high jump pit. It causes me to speed up the phases so I can land on my butt in time. To slow it down do the same off a springboard or jumping box. Think knee drive, hang, then spring forward to pike and HOLD. Landing on the mats, land so your butt hits 1st with feet in front.
I have some tips. If people read this then they will thank me later. Trust me. Besides the basic cardio, speed develpment, and weight lifting. Good preseason work is a lap of lunges once a week for 2 months. Another good one is slam dunking a volleyball on a basketball goal. I dunk a VB from the free throw line, but if you can't, lower it a bit and try from as far as you can. These things have greatly helped me improve my distance.
Training for me was constant. I lifted weights, ran sprints, and plyos. I probably spent at least 3 hours a day at least on training to get myself to that level.
If you can't physically do that then flexibility is part of it, but I feel like core ab & lower back strength plays a major role as well. I'd spend the beginning of every workout, after warmup, doing leg raises, ab crunches, and some speed bands. The speed bands on your back are basically you pumping your legs back and fourth with the bands for tension. Then flip over to your stomach and do but kicks with the bands too. 3 sets of everything, abs and raises sets of 25. Bands sets of 30 secs.
This is a really good tutorial, I like how you show an example after explaining. 2:58 Did the guy in the back hurt himself? It looked like he was trying to get up.
I think the usage of a spring board or triangle box is the best way to launch you in the air to get the technique down. It probably would take a good 6 months of practice to perfect, but everybody is different.
Here is a tip, run looking forward, not up, not down, but feel free to let your eyes glance at the approaching board when you are about 4 steps out. But do not turn your head down.
Do not worry too much about the standing long jump. Use it as a drill for getting up and out. Use it as a drill to work out your landing reach and momentum control. True long jumpers need to focus on speed and height and control.
It depends on your committment. From 2000 to 2009 I would work long jump, then sprints, then weights 4 days a week. In season I would have meets on Saturdays. Nothing too specific on leg weights, just as much as I could.
Well this video pretty much outlines the basics that I would do as a base for every day LJ work. Actual workouts would follow this with stands, plyo-metrics, and other things like that.
I am 16. We had some kind of standing long jump test in High school. I've jumped 2.79cm and everyone thought that was cool, so i started to train Long jump. I jumped 6,31m. But i have a friend who is jumping over 3m in standing jump but he can only be 6m, not more. All i wanna say is that standing jump have not much to do with long jump. Just practice technique and speed is important and we could watch you on TV.
Hey Jeremy, not sure if you remember me but I first contacted you about my 7 yr old son who started long jumping last year and placed 27th in the country at Jr. Olympics. This year his PR was 11'10" going to nationals. He set a goal of 15th in the country, tried the hitch kick for the first time and got a new PR of 12'06" and placing 11th . Your videos helped me out to help him. Cant wait to see your new ones. Here is his new PR jump th-cam.com/video/hCB8jb_mxb4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks man...so for the lunges I should alternate between track workouts and weight workouts every 2 days? What specific weight workouts do you suggest? Thanks again in advance, I really appreciate it.
Stephie, I'm not sure why my post reply didn't show up, but I'll try this again. I would do LJ work 5 days a week for In Season. But PreSeason is easy. Mix it up with Cardio, Lunges, Jumping in the Gym, and speed work. As far as specifics, I wouldn't worry to much. Get creative and research as much as you can. Make sure you read all my comments on this video too.
Ok I don't know how much of a difference this makes but I broke my right foot and sprained my left ankle, I used to be able to touch the bottom of the backboard but now only bottom of the rim
@StatusXtC If you are a beginner, I recommend that your initial long jumps should just be natural. Try to naturally jump as far as you can. If it is something that you excel at, then I would begin to train on a specific form of jumping. If you miss out on the natural explosion that comes with this event and get too technical you may actually hurt your distance. It is all about momentum transfer in the air. Some are better at cycling, some are better at hanging.
I plan on doing a short "how to" video next week with posting in Mid March. But please be aware that I can only really be an expert on my form. Everyone is different. :)
@roroarro Step ups with light kettle bells in each hand. Step up high then drive opposite knee on top and opposite arm up. Good knee drive and arm drive.
"@StatusXtC Awesome Video! Thnx it really helped me! I am learning long jump now and in June I have to jump for marks. How can you decide your style? cycle, hang e.t.c? And how you learn to walk in the air, it takes long time?"
@AlternateScxpe Well technically its jump jump jump, because if you hop & skip, you are not going to be able to transfer your momentum efficiently. I'd say it's more like a Single Leg Cycle Jump with the right, then Explosive Bound with the right, then a Complete Jump with the left. Or typically if you are left footed, the other way around.
Thanks bro. I started there raises yesterday. Would it be Too much if I asked you for a workout plan? Lol. I want to be in the best shape possible for senior year. I want to jump 25 in the long and 53 in the triple
To increase the distance of back jump, dose i want to increase the vertical jumping height, my leg power is low should I concentrate on the single leg squats
OK Kate, here is my plan. I'll be making a landing video very soon, as in this week. I will be calling it "How To Land a Long Jump." As far as the specific workouts for plyos, flexibility, and power; if you are still interested, send me a direct message. Thanks for watching!
@redranger1244 Well my friend, you are asking a big question that I can't truly answer in 500 characters. I will say this, you have to be strong. Do a lap of lunges around the track once a week for 4 weeks. Lift a bunch of weights, jump boxes, work sprints. As far as specific drills, this video can get you started on that. Good luck and please keep us posted.
Ok bud, here is what I'd do. On the decent of your jump it is essential that you hold your feet up on the decent of your jump. Look at 8:08 on my video. See how I hold my feet and "pike" my body? You hold that, then when your heels touch sand, do a hamstring pull to the side. Holding your feet like the pic at the end will help you use all of your momentum towards the distance of the jump. Let me know if you want some drills to help. Thanks for watching.
Great Video. Thank you so much sir....Sir I have a question. I am now 21 years old , I was a good long jumper but for 3 to 4 years I have not done any Practice. If I will practice according to your lesson is it possible that I will be a professional long jumper ? Please Give the reply...
After watching the video, this is pretty good and I would recommend this to young starters and even older athletes who do not receive proper instruction. There are many people online putting out videos that are lacking fundamentals. Good job!

One of the best videos I got on TH-cam for long jump improve
Thanks bro
Excellent Technic 🐦
Wow super workout & thank you for ur guidelines

Thank you, this will be great for setting up my long jump training
JJxii - Track n Field perfect. That is exactly why I made this video.
thanks.
Our track season is over but i'll keep that in mind next time I do it.
Jeremy, thanks for this excellent video. Tried the entire drill set today and they are all super and that is a good sequence for them. Had my best box jump session in many moons immediately after these drills. Looking forward to any other videos you put together.

Good to hear it. I’m 38 and ready to get back to competition when I turn 40. Still able to jump 24 ft so hopefully I can keep that up.
@@jeremy1ton Yikes, if you're at 24ft you'll be one of the best veterans in the world. I did just over 22ft at 16. Always enjoyed getting on the track so looking forward to going once everything opens up.
thank you mate. helped me jump farther(5.02) even being heavy and not too tall. Thank you very much!
This workout is most important

Just want to add, you can summarize the 3 points of standing long jump into one term, "triple extension". Ankle, knee, and hip.

I like your tutorial very much and it is very effective. Thank you for the video...
Thank u so much for the video now I am pushing hard forward

Bhargav Earth sounds good, if you have any specific questions just let me know!
@@jeremy1ton hey man... I'm 14 years old I jump 4.75 m I wanna jump above 5.30 by next year's September.... Is it possible??
Thanks a lot......marvellous explanation
Training for me was constant. I lifted weights, ran sprints, and plyos. I probably spent at least 3 hours a day at least on training to get myself to that level.
thank you for this, really helped with my sports assessment for year 12
so you didn't rest?
You have the same off the mark start that I do. I'm going to do this on the off season for sure. Thanks for this.

Did the guy in the back hurt himself? It looked like he was trying to get up.
Adam is fine. He was stretching.
jeremy1ton
Oh okay
I would do them 3-4 times a week. Each drill is 2X20 Meters.
Nice work man
I wouldn't advise doing a standing long jump from a full squat position but there is some good content in here for beginner jumpers
I think the usage of a spring board or triangle box is the best way to launch you in the air to get the technique down. It probably would take a good 6 months of practice to perfect, but everybody is different.
You got it buddy, I'll be calling it "How To Land A Long Jump." I'll be filming it this week. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for everything man. I appreciate u taking time out of ur day to give us tips. Much appreciated
Concentrate on jump👌👌💐
I'm jumping for my sports abitur tomorrow, have to jump 5.85m for maximal credit. thanks for these drills!
It's really very helpful... thankyou 🙏
I'm investigating on long jump drills for a school gym task, Thanks jeremy1ton for posting this video!
Rafael Duarte awesome. Hopefully it works out.
This guy is cool and intelligent.
Here is a tip, run looking forward, not up, not down, but feel free to let your eyes glance at the approaching board when you are about 4 steps out. But do not turn your head down.
This is most useful for long jump improving i really thanks ....
wow cool exercise and drills
Do not worry too much about the standing long jump. Use it as a drill for getting up and out. Use it as a drill to work out your landing reach and momentum control. True long jumpers need to focus on speed and height and control.
You are very welcome. Keep it fun for him and one day he can be a champion.
Great video! Very helpful for my first year coaching long jump.
You are welcome my friend. Really emphasize that last step before the jump. Reaching out is bad, and snapping it quick for height is good.
Basic pre season if you don't mind. I'm not doing a fall sport this year so I can actually spend time in the weight room. Thank you so much
pretty good workout...helped me alot
Thanks bro great video
Raj Ambure you are welcome :)
Just guessing what you mean, but I do all of the speed drills, standing jumps, and phase work each workout for my my LJ days. Usually 3 times a week.

Sorry if this is late, but the quickest way to increase a jump is to hold your landing. Kids drop their feet way too soon.
Well this video pretty much outlines the basics that I would do as a base for every day LJ work. Actual workouts would follow this with stands, plyo-metrics, and other things like that.
Right at 10 ft, or 3 meters. Good thing they changed it to a jump with a full approach or I would have been in trouble.
