The one that will return the best results in every area. So probably the first one with the outlook of the second. I can't count how many times I have created a bells-and-whistles site only to find myself heavily editing it back to basics to get the page scores I need. I guess it's like a Christmas Tree. You put to much crap on and it's likely to fall over. 😂
I recently rebuilt my portfolio and resume. I would say it was around 10 hours. I'm glad to know that I naturally made of the decisions you spoke of here.
In my opinion it worth a lot to invest +100 hours on building portfolio, because it looks so great, beautiful, very creative and with a lot of details.
The 100 hour website is beautiful, but it's not really effective or accessible. I think the 10 hr website is the best, it shows skill, it's easy to navigate, & it has enough personality to make a potential client want to engage in a conversation about a project, great content.
I really liked the idea of 100 hours portfolio as I'm a Designer who do science outreach and communication, loves astronomy and talks about finance. so I can show not only my professional side but also other sides of me. Yay!
That 100 hour portfolio is so fantastic. I'd love to try it all but I'm just a beginner. I just started to watch your educational videos and I was like "I can learn this in school for few months and pay a bunch." But I learned these things in just few hours and it's so amazing. Ever since I wanted to do this kind of projects. I just don't know where to go and learn and I don't have much money to pay for school fees. Your videos are absolutely impressive. I can start from those free websites or apps that you have shared. Thank you.
OMG that was beautiful! This reminds me of back in the day when ppl used to have different WordPress themes you could cycle through while experiencing their blogs.
I have to say, the 100 hours version is trully awesome and well done. It's a banger ! And yes we will love to see a full workshop about this. The animation is the cherry on the top and give a very dynamic experience. I bet lot of people could visit multiple times the portfolio and use different versions "punk/family/..." to have a new experience. Great work !
The 100 Hour portfolio was just Dope, Fire, Amazing like it was super cool design appreciate all your efforts behind the making of this amazing portfolio video Ran & also your team. Thank you all
Thank you so much, your videos are very helpful to me. Also you have the most calming voice to listen to, which makes it pleasant to learn stuff here 🙂
Hi Ran, at the beginning i wanne say you´ve done an amazing job. 👍 Of course it is extremely difficult to decide. Personally, I think the 10hrs portfolio is really good. But the 100hrs project is of course absolutely outstanding and amazing. I love little details like that, and you got them right in the 100hrs project. Basically, it almost doesn't matter because both are very excellent.
Ryan, loved this video. I'm in the process of designing and launching a new portfolio. ( For like 5 years now, the struggle is real ). This video was just the inspiration I needed to kick it into high gear. Thanks for sharing and producing this.
Such personal and highly professional at the same time! awesome work Ran. I currently rework my portfolio using openAI to help me build my own html/css/javascript
What an awesome video Ran. All 3 websites were decent. I'd choose the 3rd. I'm imagining it would score clients willing to drop large amounts for something special, so you could spend more time on one project. But maybe that also comes with more pressure to create something unique and innovative on those big bespoke, but well paid, projects. Amazing end result, very creative idea.
I think these portfolios are bad. Not optimized to be effective, but just to look good. As a person trying to find a designer I would not be satisfied with the amount of information I get or/and overwhelmed with some parts of these designs. The last one for me is, in fact, the definition of a design I don't want to come across, as it is just tiring to use and not very informative - It would not build trust in me. We should focus on effectiveness, not WOW effect. Dear designers, please don't be like that. There's a reason why top performing websites are the simple ones. In real world all these fancy websites is just budget-burning. Websites are meant to be useful and profitable, not mind-blowing and painful to use. Keep in mind that you can enjoy them as a designer, but users won't in 99% of cases.
I love it when people give constructive criticism, but I'll have to both agree and disagree with this. On one hand, clients that look for a Web designer obviously are searching for one because they don't know how to do these things, thus, they focus more on the informative and simplistic side of design in general, because the general public (a typical client) wants something that does the job (sell services, give information, etc. without being complicated). However, on the other hand, I personally think that the same way a client has the right to choose their designer, a designer has the same right to choose their clients, so by making a portfolio in a way that allows the designer to express their personality and preferred field and style of work, they filter out the clients to those that are searching for just those characteristics. So I guess it just depends on what each side is looking for.
Two years ago I picked a car, not because of the information about the car but because it looked WOW to me 😊 so I fell for the looks. Can this be in webdesign too? I have had clients that told me they choosed for me as a designer because they loved the website because it had more color and beauty than the other websites they visited. It was not (only) the information but for them far more the look and feel of my website. So yes I believe that design has a big role to play in business. It is not only about what you say but also HOW you show it. That is what I think
@@aneliamilanova9563 I totally agree that these websites can work, but my point is that they are unlikely to sell as good as websites specifically designed to do its job. I think we can still make websites that express ourselves, but in many cases (eg. that one) it just goes too far. I think user experience and profitability should be on the first place and if you can create something beautiful keeping these aspects - go for it!
Please make a video on how to send data[like image, name, price, and description I mean product details] in Firebase through the web flow, without Zapier but also using Firebase cloud function and HTTP request and web flow logic, make this video early because I need it
Great work... but something about Webflow seems off... Like the overlay text in each font style looks so cheap. I know it's not you, it's webflow. Been there, done that.

the 10 hour is actually my favorite But I wondered why you don't use your own advice from your freelancer course :D "A designer who likes typography" not really a differentiator and also not really relevant to a business I guess haha
I’m no longer freelancing (for a number of years now) as I run Flux Academy full-time. So this isn’t a freelance web designer who needs a clear offer to businesses, it’s just a portfolio.
while no-code builders are great for simple websites or those who aren't comfortable with coding, raw code developers offer a level of power and customization that's still unmatched for complex projects.
The elephant in the room. Guys, when are designers going to accept that they should be focusing on mobile design. It's 70% of your audience. Designers deep down know that the smaller screens basically kills great designs or it tougher for the eye to identify a great design. Just accept it and stop tarting out desktop designs
@@FluxAcademy Sorry i was not criticising your design. It looks great but in reality it should be mobile first design. That should be the main focus in my opinion.
Yea, I’m not a fan of these folio sites either. Newbs and pros alike are forgetting the primary reason why we have jobs. The user. Your designs need to be more user centric man. Don’t talk at the viewer….talk with them. It’s what you can do for them, not who you are.
A little disappointed with the 1 hour... you didn't even use all the time! Considering that was the most limiting, it would've been better if you added a bit of your own flare to the template. Overall great content!
I think it is not fair to promise smth you won't give to audience. I will do a website in 1hr, oh no wait, i will not do it, i will use a template, i technically will spend 20min to see templates, 20 minutes to download and set up and 20 min to change and upload....
But your actual work gets a single section/image? Where’s the depth and breath of content showing your work approach, strategy, tactics, outcomes, challenges..etc. Tell those stories.
This inspired me to continue working on my portfolio! I think I’ll try the 100hrs. Also the quick review of portfolios were inspiring. Watched it before this one. Thank you, Ran!
Which portfolio should I connect to my domain? The 1-hour, 10-hour, or 100-hour website?
Unless you really want to win an award I think the 10 hour one is fine
It's very difficult to decide which one you have to connect with but the last one was amazing ... 20 out of 10 ❤
the best one is 100-hour website i love it
Obviously the third one.

The 100 hour is INSANE! Mind blown, amazing work!

Appreciate it!
I design my websites with code but the slide-up class and intersection observer is exactly what I implemented. Love it! ❤
Awesome, and thanks!
This is the best portfolio I have ever seen! Your creativity and attention to detail are truly impressive. Keep up the wonderful work!
I loved the 10-hour and 100-hour more. It is really amazing the level you can achieve in less than 10 hours.
Thanks!!
very cool concepts. I wish clients understood the idea that more time = better result

In my opinion it worth a lot to invest +100 hours on building portfolio, because it looks so great, beautiful, very creative and with a lot of details.

Screen with quicktime. Me with a camera
When you design do you take in to account what all the cool effects and animation will do to the Google pagespeed of the website?

What AI tool did you use to create images of yourself doing different things? DALL E doesn't do that I don't think.
Dall E, but I replaced my face in Photoshop
