Good job! That locomotive sounds fantastic. I'm italian and I'm a fan of Rivarossi USA models. I have several of them, some with the motor in the cab and some with 5 poles motor in the boiler and they are all fantastic models
Which speaker system did you use and is there a pre assembled current keeper i could use? I picked up a red box Mallet today i want to DCC immediately. Thanks
You can use any current keeper that’s compatible with your decoder. Most of the Soundtraxx decoders have a port to plug their current keeper into. The speaker is a scale sounds speaker.
@@Wrxorcism My loco was an older one so it wasn’t DCC read or plug and play. Basically you have to wire it yourself to get it ready for a decoder. If you need any help let me know.
@@MikesProjectsandHobbiesMC definitely, I appreciate it. Mine is a 2174 model from ‘96, got lucky and found it new so ill be re wiring the whole thing too. Ideally id like to keep the decoder in the engine and maybe make a plug up or something to the speaker in the tender so i dont have to permanently keep the loco connected
Hi there Mike. Those Rivarossi Red Box are DCC Ready? It will arrive mine CabForward this week Mod#5424 SP#4274. On pics I can not see any papers on the box. I find on Rivarossi web the parts sheet on PDF. TY!
Wow man, that runs really well at slow speed. What decoder did you use? Those Rivarossi articulated locos with the motor in the boiler, run way better than the older versions that have the motor in the cab.I have just finished doing a wow sound decoder install in a Rivarossi big boy from the mid 90s(motor in the boiler)I am sooo plesaed withit.I had to convert the tender to pickup current, & added a ka3.At last, that loco runs sooo sweet AND doesnt stall out over frogs etc..Now I know what decoders to use on the other 3 RR big boys. They do run great on DC, but they have a big problem picking up current through only the 4 drivers. Nice to see the older models being rejuvinated..Well done, but do let me know what decoder you used, thankyou. Michael NZ
It has a Sound Traxx TSU 2200 and your right. All of the center motored Rivarossis run great but for some reason the purists like the old versions with the arc welder in the cab. :-). I’d love to find a Riv BB with a motor in the boiler. Would be a great project.

Nothing really, just replaced the traction tires.
