That is so sweet of you to say! The cliff scene behind me was a "just for me" project, so unfortunately I do not have any video footage of the process. :/

You have one of the best channels for watercolor instruction and your work has inspired me immensely. If it wasn't for you I would have never started to work on five by seven blocks. I always thought you had to work on 8×10 or 9×12 but now I can afford these cotton papers since you have inspired me to use the 5×7 blocks instead which are much cheaper!! Lol Thank you so very much for all of your instruction. One day soon I am hoping to buy a few classes of yours. You are so beautiful and amazing.

Hi Emily, I loved your lightning demo, especially the wet on wet masking fluid technique. Here in Brisbane ( Australia) where I have lived for just the last 4 years we get tremendous summer storms. Of course I want to paint them! I am used to painting watercoloour night skies and city landscapes and they are my favourite paintings because they are such fun to do. I paint these wet on wet too so your technique will suit very well. I just have to paint the Christmas storms we had... and immediately!

Both look great. I like the control of the second method the best because this particular subject will have a lot of tiny line’s coming off of it. It looked like the first method was more difficult to manage and apply. It appeared it was limited when you tried to get small lines and details.

Beautiful work. Thanks so much for sharing these techniques. I still haven't found any tape that doesn't ruin the boarders of my paintings. Can you please suggest which works best for you?

I use artists' tape from Blick!

Have you ever tried using a white crayola crayon instead of masking fluid for the lightning?

I haven’t! I’m thinking it might “skip” too much.

I just saw someone using a cheap calligraphy pen to dip in to create white areas and then it just rolled off pen after it dried!
