For those of you who're confused about what tracer fluid is like Pat, I'll explain. Watching this playthrough is the first time that it hit me that these two are no longer going to work together for the foreseeable future. I will try to explain in brief. 0 and 1 are the binary code used to program computers. We need a number to represent the number of digits, 1 and 0. That would be "2." And from 2 we get 3 (because 0, 1, 2) and so on and so forth. Ultimately we get the primary numbers 2 and 5. Man, it's been a while. It took me forever to come back to this playthrough. I remember thinking about the word Soma and what it meant. I knew it meant body in either Greek or Latin. The Brave New World connection was really interesting too. Props to Pat for researching that. However, the very first thing I thought of was neurology. A neuron is composed of a couple different parts, one of which is the soma or the "body" of the neuron, which is basically a long tubular structure that acts like a wire for the electrical impulses that neurons send to each other, eventually making it to the brain or central nervous system. I think the title of the game might be referencing all three of these ideas. We've got the connection to the brain, the idea of a body and what a body is, and a sci-fi drug that causes people to lose their humanity. It's a pretty nuanced title.

Frictional Games to this day (even during an interview about Amnesia: Rebirth where they were asked about A Machine For Pigs), really like AMFP, to the point that it became included in the Amnesia Collection console ports after this video came out, even though it was by The Chinese Room. Also, AMFP is awesome! Don’t @ me! Yes, it’s not as good as the first game and is a bit disappointing as a follow up, but I got into the series long after the hype died down and did as much research on all three games as possible because I couldn’t afford them yet. Once I bought them, I played The Dark Descent, Justine and A Machine For Pigs back to back. I did a similar thing where I played Outlast 1 & Whistleblower for the first time on the PS4 back to back when it was on sale on PlayStation Plus (Outlast 2 didn’t come out yet at that point by the way). I tried to go into Outlast blind but spoiled some things for myself (like the science fiction twist of the Walrider’s identity), but it wasn’t a lot and it didn’t ruin the experience. A lot of this is my own personal anecdotal experience.
The really scary thing is, Simon asks, "why is there never enough time?" 59:42 - OK, pretty sure now: spoilers, that you're also a biomass/robot/cthulhu abomination, and that robot you unplugged (and killed) was another woman that underwent the brain scan--- eg: you stopped being the opening character after the first scan, and the player character from then onwards is the *recording.* To put it another way: that Not-Yet-A-Doctor guy effectively made a way to _record "souls" electronically,_ and by saving it to disk, you make a _copy_ of a "soul," which in turn is a fully functioning "soul" in itself. (ie; the 'teleportation' from _The Prestige_ with Christian Fucking Bale is actually a matter duplicator so perfect, that it does a 1:1 copy of the brain down to at least the molecular level, thus "duplicating the soul" and making another Christian Bale that has the same memories and thoughts). That's why the player's vision is having that Phantom Pain-esque visual 'glitches', and is prolly just hallucinating having flesh hands. Note there hasn't been any reflective surfaces yet.

12:26 Pat's not wrong. Look at this from an outside perspective: A man with a brain injury is stumbling around his apartment, throwing things around because he can't remember where he put his drugs. A lot of video game protagonist behaviour (running in circles, talking to people a bunch of times, hopping on tables and kicking things around, etc) makes sense if in-universe he has a brain injury and people are just sort of putting up with him and making sure he doesn't hurt himself.
I'm going by the definition of horror. You don't need slendy man up your ass the whole time to feel fear, but I can agree from the viewers point as brave 7ft tall men of steel the atmosphere and paranoia wont affect us as much as the person playing.

Frictional Games to this day (even during an interview about Amnesia: Rebirth where they were asked about A Machine For Pigs), really like AMFP, to the point that it became included in the Amnesia Collection console ports after this video came out, even though it was by The Chinese Room. Also, AMFP is awesome! Don’t @ me! Yes, it’s not as good as the first game and is a bit disappointing as a follow up, but I got into the series long after the hype died down and did as much research on all three games as possible because I couldn’t afford them yet. Once I bought them, I played The Dark Descent, Justine and A Machine For Pigs back to back. I did a similar thing where I played Outlast 1 & Whistleblower for the first time on the PS4 back to back when it was on sale on PlayStation Plus (Outlast 2 didn’t come out yet at that point by the way). I tried to go into Outlast blind but spoiled some things for myself (like the science fiction twist of the Walrider’s identity), but it wasn’t a lot and it didn’t ruin the experience. A lot of this is my own personal anecdotal experience.

59:42 - OK, pretty sure now: spoilers, that you're also a biomass/robot/cthulhu abomination, and that robot you unplugged (and killed) was another woman that underwent the brain scan--- eg: you stopped being the opening character after the first scan, and the player character from then onwards is the *recording.*
To put it another way: that Not-Yet-A-Doctor guy effectively made a way to _record "souls" electronically,_ and by saving it to disk, you make a _copy_ of a "soul," which in turn is a fully functioning "soul" in itself. (ie; the 'teleportation' from _The Prestige_ with Christian Fucking Bale is actually a matter duplicator so perfect, that it does a 1:1 copy of the brain down to at least the molecular level, thus "duplicating the soul" and making another Christian Bale that has the same memories and thoughts). That's why the player's vision is having that Phantom Pain-esque visual 'glitches', and is prolly just hallucinating having flesh hands. Note there hasn't been any reflective surfaces yet.
They are Marathoning the least scariest game in this entire Shitstorm, probably Pat's idea because he's a little baby.

The level of "shit, I need to do something" was insanely tiny when you guys began killing/shutting down these conscious robot guys. I couldn't help but think "why are they just watching this poor guy suffer and die and not just flip the switch again?"

12:26 Pat's not wrong. Look at this from an outside perspective: A man with a brain injury is stumbling around his apartment, throwing things around because he can't remember where he put his drugs. A lot of video game protagonist behaviour (running in circles, talking to people a bunch of times, hopping on tables and kicking things around, etc) makes sense if in-universe he has a brain injury and people are just sort of putting up with him and making sure he doesn't hurt himself.

I'm going by the definition of horror. You don't need slendy man up your ass the whole time to feel fear, but I can agree from the viewers point as brave 7ft tall men of steel the atmosphere and paranoia wont affect us as much as the person playing.

This game would have been fine if amnesia didn't exist and this game wasn't up its own asshole too much. Like, its basically a slightly worse amnesia that is obsessed with "woo I'm actually not who I think I am!" And then it spends the rest of the game reminding you of this fact.
Its fine, but Amnesia did pretty much everything this game did better, even though I prefer this game's setting to Amnesia.
