The first stage of mastering ANYTHING in life is the "looking like a complete idiot" stage. We gravitate to the tiny handful of things we started learning to do as kids, because we navigated that stage before we were self-conscious and weighed down by our egos. So great to see these men with the confidence to try and fail and try again to do something new. That willingness to fail, that willingness to endure the "look like an idiot" phase and keep on going, is what will make them successful at literally anything they try to accomplish.
Seems like he has some kind of talent. I don't know what kind of talent it is, so i will just quote from encycopedia britannica: "As well as strength and mobility, a good dancer must also possess great coordination (the ability to work different parts of the body together), a highly developed kinesthetic awareness (in order to know and control the position and state of the body), ..." or if it's not talent, then maybe he likes dance.
So happy she said that Pole dance isn’t always sexy. It’s a sport. I feel like with these kinds of videos it’s never represented as that, but more so as Table dance. Glad someone made that clear 😊
Yo, actually though. I used to happily spin on the poles on the playground equipment when I was in elementary school until my mom yelled at 5th grade me that older guys will find it attractive and I was just like “wut” but yeah, I really wish I could just do that again :/
It doesn't have to be sexy, but is REALLY graceful, even more than ballet. I find it truly captivating. I can't even imagine the strenght that you have to have to raise your leg to do the fan kick (that she says it is easy and I totally don't believe it)
Well, it's the same with yoga. When I do yoga (male), I'm fully aware that onlookers (of both sexes) will mostly focus on my protruding butt and genitals. Partly it's biological, but to a larger extent it's because how our stupid culture turns body and (anything approaching) nudity into taboo/sensation. But if you do it a lot and with like-minded people, it gets "old" pretty quickly and no longer feels so awkward or exciting (also true for completely nude appearances, e.g. in sauna).
Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I feel like the guy in the blue T-shirt has done ballet or some form of dance before in his life. He just has that form when he moves and even the placement of his feet at 5:05 gives me a hint of ballet🤷🏻♀️
yeah I have the same feeling. The way he stands keeping his back straight really reminds me of ballet or at least other dances that requires a strong core and balance
I appreciate that the guys were respectful of this woman's skill set and that they genuinely tried to learn what she was teaching them. They also shared some good observations about the fear of trying something new. This is a good series.
Ok but can we agree that seeing the guy in the Superman top pole dance was incredibly sexy? Like dude, take me out on a date! I am terrified of heights but would try rock climbing for you!
i'm really impressed with how the guys don't even seem to recognize a negative stigma to this skill. they're really trying, and it's impressive. their teacher is wonderful, too!
gray shirt guy in the corner and then superman guy in the other corner were great! gray shirt picked up the movements quickly, while superman was so graceful.
Love how seriously the men took it, started pole dancing recently after years of climbing and was amazed at how transferable the skills of strength and endurance were! lovely to see this video, the fan kick was so relatable
@Sun&Rain actually pole dancing is more than girls dancing half naked (almost naked) in a bar sorrounded by partying drunk dudes It is a type of sport and as far as i know, it is another type of gymnastics
This is amazing. These are strong athletes all. They are used to being in control of their bodies and gracefully moving to a purpose. "i'm a perfectionist, and I am really really like sucking at it right now" lol! They are not used to starting at the beginning and working through it! Their teacher, of course, is fabulous!
I fell in love with the artistic side of pole dancing when I saw a routine in a Cirque Du Soleil show. Omg she was AMAZING. This lady has such beautiful fluid movements and I actually really like her ankle tattoos because they compliment her fan kicks and such.
Pole dancers are some of the hardest working people. It's easy to label them as "oh that's just a stripper", but the amount of work they put in to get good and graceful at it is insane.
Alex O the thing is many pole dancers AREN’T strippers AT ALL. Many of them would never, ever strip. Many of them do it at a dance studio, like going to the gym for a workout. Yes, strippers use poles too...but pole dancing as a sport, is not about strippers! Just wanted you to know the difference :)
I always say this whenever someone mentions it, I got nothing but mad respect for pole dancers. The amount of strength, and control it takes is beyond many athletes.
Complex dances like pole dancing always give me anxiety when there are standard movements that I'm unable to follow, but actually mastering it or at least getting the movement down is probably one of the most satisfying feelings in the world.
It honestly really is a satisfying feeling. When I first started pole - I was of course, terrible & incredibly embarrassed. So much so that I stopped going after the 2nd/3rd class. Gave it another try and made it to the second series. My favorite move so far has been the "Back-hook spin".
I was pretty serious about rock climbing back in college for about a year, but then I discovered pole and gave up climbing for pole, which I've been doing for almost 4 years now. So it's funny to see the intersection. Also, Body & Pole one of my fave places in NY!
I’m sure in reality they spent over an hour together and she probably did explain it all in detail , they’re just trying to do a general overview video based mainly on the rock climbers. If they were to put every explanation & every single little detail on the video it would be way too long and viewers would get bored and click out. I’m sure she was more specific, they just don’t need to include every single detail in video.

Men: sweat more, but have more power and are not that embarrassed. Pole dancer here. Proud of you guys. I'll start competing next year. It's hard. I am currently at level 2. I came into this class with 0 upper body strength. I've gotten stronger and it's a great and fun way to get fit and stay fit.

I love how all the men took it seriously and really tried to learn it. Everyone there is an athlete. Super-jealous.
But not jealous enough to become an athlete
Robert Smith yeah harder said then done... and some people (me) have restrictions (my parents) that stop them from doing anything.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that superman t-shirt bloke has some dancing training from when he was a child. He was so graceful.

I thought so too!
At the very least, that guy has an excellent stretch routine, so many climbers don't take it into account as much. But I think you're right :0
Yes, his fan kicks were beautiful and he seemed super coordinated!
