This Gearbox is So Powerful it can Pull a CAR! (3D Printed)

  • This gearbox is so strong/powerful and it can pulls a real car. All the plastics are 3d printed PLA. The gearbox uses 775 dc motor and the gear ratio of the gearbox is 98:1. The worm gear has 40 teeth. So the gear ratio in the worm gear mechanism is 40. Here there is a really high torque increase in one stage. I choose to go for helical gears on this one because they produce a lot less noice than regular spur gears and the forces on the teeth are transferred more gradually. Output shaft has a 20 mm diameter and I used 2x6004(ORS) roller bearing to support this output shaft.I was able to test the gearbox to a torque of about 43 kg*cm.During testing none of the gears broke, they were all printed in PLA.
Do not use this design in the professional field. Because you can't trust to plastic parts!
Below are all the parts I used in this project:
    12V DC 775 Motor(100 Watt)
    608zz bearing x3
    6004 bearing x2
    20 mm aluminium shaft
    M8 threaded rod
    Cotter pins
    2x30-x4
    3x50-x1

Great video keep up the good work!
I can’t help from wonder if there is a voltage drop under load with the wires just hand wound around the battery terminals. Higher the current (load) the more resistance (loose connection) will restrict voltage thus artificially limiting your power (watts).
If there is a measurable drop you could just print some clamps to go around your wires to maximize the contact patch.

Very interesting mechanism you made here well done!! i had a few thoughts if your interested??
1 heavier gauge wiring to limit loss of power due to heat?
2 properly mounting your winch frame to remove all the variables of the rope stretching back and forth (thats energy loss)
3 a couple snatch blocks and maybe a nano cable or something similar? I realize this doesnt change the output of your gear box but might be cool to see its potential to do something truely surprising.
You seem to have a great understanding of worm gear design ! There are many more designs show me another? Thanks

This is very cool. I have been kicking around an idea like this but with a 300 watt 48vdc scooter motor to make a mini winch for my 2wd ebike that I take off road and mudding here in Texas. It's heavy, around 110 pounds or 50kgs, but when stuck, it's twice that weight with the mire factor figured in. The smallest motor I can find in 48vdc are 500 watt motors. You should design and build a duel motor winch like this or one with a scooter motor and see what it will pull. Keep up the great work.

That's a good demonstration of how little force is required to move a car. You can push a car in neutral, and it will move fairly easily, across flat terrain.
You should have put a pull scale behind it, to show force behind it.
And obviously, if you changed the gearing, you could move more weight, but even slower. Compound pullies would increase the amount of weight the string would support too. Moving the supporting strings to the axle would even mitigate the need for the stronger frame or gears. You could lift the entire car off the ground, with sufficient planning. It looks like the string you're using would require about 16 loops on compound pullies, or 32 static lines. There's a bunch of relevant math that I'm not going to do. :)

Other factors with winch assemblies to cause torque problems : the size of spool that your line is being spooled onto : witch way your line is spooling ..the top of spool or bottom just to name a few . You are very talented machinist of home projects on a higher than normal level . I've never utilized a 3d printing machine yet . I build many things in my yard without welding or really much more than bench grinder , angle grinder, corded drill , cordless drill. Drill press from 1960, files , self tappers, ect. I managed to build a 55 mph garden tractor out of pulleys , belts , modified centrifugal clutch ..actually I've built 3 of them with different drive systems , my most recent almost success very difficult was to build an o scale truck and motor assembly for an old gp9 diesel loco that was broken beyond ..I don't suppose you build items for folks that pay do you ? Or even accept a challenge that is suggested such as the locomotive motor assembly ? I bet you could do it no doubt ..message me back please Im liking subscribing to your channel now thanks . ( add a block to double pulling force to your machine)

Could varying the thread distance (pitch) allow you to change the gear ratio along one shaft?
For instance, if it was used in a vehicle moving the gear further forward would change the gear ratio and increase speed.

    • @monhi64
      @monhi64 ปีที่แล้ว

I think so but doubt you’d actually want to increase the thread distance. Instead just add more spirals to the worm, maybe one or two instead of three

i've noticed that you use cotter pins extensively in this and other projects, as well as threaded rods as axes, ¿i was wondering why you don't use splined shaft or shaft keys to affix the gears?, is it because they're hard to get "off the shelf"?
